Ireland whats wrong with irish shows?
Dazzam replied to Wetnoseman's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Totally agree with you Irish Lurcher. Over the past year i've lost count of the many new people and friends i've met with at the shows. Even at Shanes i met people whom i hadn't seen in 15 years and they still hadn't forgot the £5 i borrowed years ago -
Any of the rabbits i kept for myself from the above and cleaned out only one was milky. Before anyone goes on slagging about ferreting this time of year whippetlad has just taken up ferreting and the rabbits were caught on new permission were the landowners were pleading for them to be removed. So let's encourage him.

I was looking at that first picture thinking i was out on saturday and caught a golden rabbit like that and then realised who you were . Great to see you're enjoying yourself. The ferrets are looking great mate. Darren

Ireland whats wrong with irish shows?

The Master McGrath offers the greatest amount of prize money for lurcher racing this side of the channel and i thought it had the largest crowd of spectators i have ever witnessed at a lurcher race so increasing the prize money seems to be increasing the interest in lurcher racing.......that's got to be a good thing. Last year a lot of the hot debates/discussions were about whippets and non ped whippets but since the introduction of an under 21" class this seems to have sorted this out. Dogs suspected of being greyhounds has been going on for years even when there was no money for the -

Anyone going to Shanes next year i would recommend the Railway Cafe. Chips, Roast Breast of Chicken, choice of vegtables, gravy and drink for £8.00. It was delightful and i got mine for free.......thanks Albert. Compared to a burger and coke probably £5 at the chippy van the Railway Cafe is great value -
Ireland Lawerencetown Show, Cancelled
Dazzam replied to dessie m's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
I'm sorry i can't answer that question as i don't know all the ins and outs of DNA testing. I would prefer a DNA test done that would determine whether the parentage of the dogs is genuine. Also i agree with Martin that it is then open for someone to use two unmarked greyhounds as lurchers and produce pups but surely the same test would also determine whether the dog is pure bred or not. Thanks to those who have pm'd me to donate money into the kitty should the testing go ahead. I also hope that Dessie would consider changing his mind and going a head with the show as the vast majority -
Ireland Lawerencetown Show, Cancelled

I've attended a few shows this year and i've got to be honest as a whole i thought they were very friendly, relaxed and felt welcomed by every person i met and spoke with. Just because there a few issues with the racing it's absolutely crazy to suggest to do away with the racing at the shows. There are as many debates/discussions with the showing as there is with the racing so to even hint at to do away with the racing is madness. As a whole the shows are great, it's the mindless idiots who come on to the forums abusing, slandering and even threatening other members which is damaging and destr -

Thanks folks for all the replys. Looks like they'll be having trout tonight

I've a lot of stocked trout in my freezer from months ago which have already been gutted and cleaned out. I've never fed fish to the ferrets before and am wondering would it be it ok to give these to the ferrets. If so do they have to be filleted or can i just put them in, bones and all. Many thanks. Daz

I'm not being nosey mate, just trying to learn as much as i can in case i need to do a fix in the future but why did you stop using the grommets and change them for narrow cable ties.
-
The first pic shows Nelsons net attached using the grommet method and the second pic is JBS using the castration band method. The grommet looks so much neater and tidier and is easily slid up and down the pole to adjust the setting of the net. Here you can see the difference between the baskets. The first pic is Nelsons and you can see the poles further back in the basket making it much easier when running out and picking up the net. The second is JBS which worked ok but you had to be more careful when picking up the net as there was less room when feeding the net into the basket.

Hi mate, welcome to the forum.

After watching many of the rabbiting videos and dvds over the years i was always of the opinion that longnetting was best left for the pro's. There are a few places i ferret were it is almost impossible to net and the rabbits are absolutely thriving in theses areas. Towards the end of last season i made a promise to myself that i was going to give the longnet a go. After searching The Hunting Life, Youtube and Google for anything on longnetting it seemed that the Quickset Longnet was the best option for beginners. A few weeks ago i purchased a 50yd 6oz Quickset from JBS Nets at my local Gamefa

Was good talking with you earlier Sammy. You can't half tell that you were so thrilled with so many genuine lurcher and terrier folk coming over to spend some time with the children to have a joke and a laugh with them and see their rossettes. I guess we all at times need to open our eyes and see that there were so many good and positive things taking place over the weekend.

Ireland shanes castle cheating
Dazzam replied to flash3241's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
I think that anyone who turns up at a show to race with any dog that looks like a greyhound and wins, whatever part of the UK, North/South Ireland they are from, unless they can prove the breeding there is always going to be questions asked. As it's already been stated it's all down to honesty. I would have liked to have seen a working lurcher win the novice race and not a purpose bred racing lurcher but thats me. -

I had an enjoyable fairly relaxed two days at the gamefair. It was great to meet up with so many lurcher folk who work, race and show their dogs and get to talk about all aspects of our choosen hobbies. I thought Stuart(Denned) did a fantastic job of judging the lurchers......i didn't recognise him on sunday with a shirt and tie on . As for the under 21" final i'm sorry but i've got to disagree with Stuart and anyone else who says that Paris didn't win. I was directly on the line, not as a judge, but as a spectator and Paris won, although i wouldn't say it was a length but less. Those who cam
