    Gents I am currently filling in my forms (yes still) and have a quick question regarding the calibres i am applying for. i know i am applying for .17hmr (long range rabbits and crows) and .22lr for closer range rabbits (as .17hmr ammo is expensive). I am doing some paid deer stalkign and it is something i will be doing more of. i would like to be able to take my own rifle on these days (ideally i would like .243 or 6.5x55). Could i apply for a slot for one of these on my ticket and put for the purpose of paid deer stalking?? Think this is abit of a grey area have had a look a

    Always find myself popping up in this section, as I have always been fascinated by the tales of Deer Stalking that crop up in here. I do alot of hunting (mainly air rifle) at the moment and would like to move onto larger animals and hopefully one day deer. What i cannot really find is how people get into Deer Stalking, Did you go on a days paid stalking? Did you have a freind that got you into it? Or did you just drop on. It seems Deer permission is extremely few and far between (especially here in Yorkshire) and paying for stalking seems the way forward. i have applied for my FAC/S

    Guys Finally been allowed a 4x4 by the missus after months of nagging! But i am unsure of what to get? It will be used by our lass as her car so needs to be smallish and easily manouverable. I have a dog that will need fit in, and when i have it, it will be used as a shooting vehicle in fields so needs to be good off road. i have around £2000-£2500 to spend and would like something nice. had my eye on a couple of Pajero's but m,ost are Automatic (need Manual). Any advice as always is much appreciated Thanks Longy

    Im from Sheffield. Thanks for the quick replies. I'll have about £1000 for 3 guns .17hmr .243 (if granted) 12g shotgun The .243 may well sit on my ticket without getting bought so it will be the .17hmr and shotgun first. Any idea on brands? Upto around £500 will be used mainly for rough shooting and the odd driven day.

    Hi I am going to fill out my application for my FAC/SGC certifactes tonight, i have the gun cabinet already, place to store it, land thats has been cleared for the FAC. What i am not certain on is what type of shotgun i should get? I am joining a syndicate with a friend where we have the option to shoot Pheasant/Partridge/Duck. But i know very little about the different types of shotgun (12G/20G/.410/over under/side by side etc) What would you guys recommend? I like the look of the over unders but dont know what size to get it in? I know this sounds like a noob question because

    Well after some advice on another thread i started about paying for a day out with someone, i was advised to ask to see if anyone on here would let me come along for a day out with them and their hawks. I am based in sheffield but can travel if needed. I was going to pay £160 for a day out with a guy hunting Harris Hawks and Goshawks but money is really tight and it will really take some saving up for. I unfortunatley at the moment dont have the time to own my own BOP as i work 9-5 monday to friday and it would not be fair on the bird. Is anyone willing to let me tag along for a day

    Would anyone within an hours drive of sheffield be willing to take me out for a day? Would love to be involved in a hawk day but £160 will take a fair amount of saving up for!!!

    Well, after realising i dont have enough spare time away from work to own a bird of prey of my own (would be unfair on any species of BOP to be flown just at weekends) I am looking into booking a day out hunting with various hawks at Rabbits/Pheasant. After doing alot of research on the internet it looks like Nigel Hawkins day out seems to be the front runner. £160 is a lot for a day but i just want to get out with these wonderful birds and enjoy a couple of good flights. My question is, has anyone been out with Nigel, whats it like? Would you recommend it? Is there anyone else i co

    Very good post JD I agree that with certain animals (Magpies/Ferals/Squirrels) than an engine room shot is not only as effective but also easier to place the pellet correctly as these quarry move around alot. Rabbits on the other hand, i feel the KZ is big enough to always head shoot with out question. Just bought Si's old .25 ultra and i can tell you, they dont run off if you hit them with a 20gr HNN!! But the placement still has to be right!!
