hows he a nob head? the dog kept breaking its toes every time it went out hunting [even bunnies while ferreting] so was he supposed to just kennel it up for the rest ov its life or pass it on to some one esle dont know where you get the nob head bit from he was a great lurcher lad who loved his dogs it was the best thing for the dog after all the money he had spent trying to remedy the problem

ftm replied to vld's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
had one a long time ago 22lbs i gave it to my taxydermist mate who rang me back to say it had a metal plate in its jaw so it was clearly a rspca release -

BY THE WAY LADS WHY HAVE I GOT WARN STATUS ON MY PROFILE? DOES IT MEAN OWT?
-
me and my mate bought a couple ov dogs off hancock and both were rubbish my mate bought a 3/4 collie greyhound and i got a beardie cross out of some dog called [enoch] mine turned out 26 inches with a head like mike tyson but no heart at all he looked the part but i trained him for foxes [pre ban] he would do them twos up but cocked on them on his own so he went the journey to some lad as a ferreting dog and was shit at that as well!my mates dog grew to 25 inches and had terrible feet by the time it was 18 months and sadly got put to sleep through toes breaking all the time. i have to agree

CHIDS RIGHT WEATHER YOU AGREE OR NOT PUTTING AN 8MONTH DOG ON A HARE WILL BLOW ITS LUNGS TO EARLY I KNOW A LAMPED HARE ISNT AS HARD TO COURSE AS A DAY TIME ONE BUT THEY STILL TAKE A LOT OUT OV A DOG WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU KEEP DOING IT IS THE DOG WILL BE FINISHED AT AN EARLY AGE IM NOT SLAGGING YOU OFF OR OWT BUT WHAT IM SAYING IS TRUE

dont let the dog be fussy man just leave grub down for it and it will eat it .if you start pampering the dog your in for a rough ride mate

HERES A PIC OV JAZZ MY 2 YEAR OLD COCKER BITCH
-
im old school lads and the last post says it all listen to the experienced dog men and you wont go wrong stop bitching like tarts .we would not have entertained any one like that when i were a lad .and we were good dog men !!
-
paul you can start at 12 months but make every thing simple for dog nowt that will frustrate it as collie crosses are renowned for barking if entered too early mate. break lamping up now and again with a bit of fereting keep the dog keen but if you can hang back with dog as long as possible you will not regret it as mine were great dogs mind you i had one that once he had a misfortunate encounter with a fox at 11 months and he switched off bunnies altogether and killed fox after fox till he was 10 years old every one borrowed him from me he was that good [just my best mates tho]
-
i tottaly agree with other lads advice just take dog out with older dog and wait till you nearly finished for the night and give her a couple ov easy rabbits to boost dogs confidence . dont rush dog back to long slips there will be plenty ov time mate i assure you atb
-
hi there mate i havent got lurchers now but only ever had 1st cross collie greyhounds 20 years experience you MUST let the dog know whos boss or your in for a bad time mate as collies try to be the leader at an early age .when dog goes for a person take it by scruff ov neck and rag it around quite vigourusly [dont be namby pamby ] really let it know you wont tolerate it! i have to say this tho some collie crosses are biters and a few ov mine had to bite the bullet if you can stop it biting people tho they do turn out very good dogs.[bANNED TEXT] ever you do dont start the dog off to early as
-
i dont own lurchers now lads but i did own a 1st cross collie greyhound that marked different quarry in different ways he would do the classic stand back treatment front paw up at a rabbit set [100% bunny at home] or at a fox he would creep around the holes give me a look then walk away 20 ft and not move an inch [best dog i ever owned for foxes] if we were ratting it was a totally different story he would bite the ground and no matter how much you[ chastised] him he would just keep comming back to dig and bite hole mind you he was a good ratter as he got older he got brainier to the point t
