Very sound advice mate, thanks. I've had dogs for 30 years and some have been working dogs but nothing like what i want to do now so i need to learn what approach to take to ensure i give any pup the proper start needed. There's no rush on my part, only to see proper dogs in action and hopefully that wont be too far in the future

Not all dogs are good for all jobs. When i get a dog i want a clear idea of what i want it to do and get one with a good chance of doing it. Not happy to pick up a dog and just try something out to later re-home the dog if i prefer doing something else.

Haven't got to the point of looking at type of dog yet. I would be interested in mooching and lamping as my preffered choices though i would like to try both if there's someone local willing to show me. I admit to having an aversion to ferrets after i had a really nasty one that i rescued, put me off for life

Sorry i should have said i'm in Birmingham thanks. Roxy - it will be a hobby to me but i am serious about this hence why i haven't raced out to buy a dog and then asked what to do with it, it's a long-term commitment to the dog so i need to be sure on this.

Hello all. I am new to the forum but have been mooching about for a few days. I am very interested in working dogs and have experience with training & working security german shepherds. I have plenty of time on my hands and really want to find something to do with dogs again as more than just pets. I would love to go out with someone to see what is involved and hopefully learn the ropes before i consider leaping in and getting a dog as i want to do it justice. I should be able to get permissions without too much trouble but there's no point setting stuff up til i know what i am doin

Hello guys & girls. I am a complete noob to this but have always had an interest in working dogs in any way. I have worked security GSD's and now would like to get into working terriers or legal hunting with dogs (rabbits). Confess i know nothing about how to start but am willing to learn and i've spent many hours trawling the useful info on this site so i hopefully dont ask stupid questions.
