If she's a very good bitch who has proved herself & you want to keep her line & she's the right age & can take retirement afterwards (a lot of if's) you might weigh everything up and decide to do the op, retire her but breed a litter to keep something to replace her.......... just an idea if you think that much of her. Only you can decide what to do but as others have said, her running/working days are over.

How old is the dog? Might be just a pup playing about with youth when he thinks he can get away with it, if he's young it should ge better

Sounds like a great night, well done pup

What Age Would You Breed A Bitch Up To?
Shazza replied to northantscourser's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I breed other breeds and wouldn't consider having a 1st litter out of a bitch over 5 years old. The oldest i would breed from would be 8 years and only if she had already had a litter when younger. The pelvic bones in a maiden bitch that is older just will not flex enough to allow the natural birth of pups which is probably why vhd's bitch needed a c-section. Males however can be bred at any age as long as they stay fertile and the dog is capable. -
Don't know the age of your dog but if the second ball hasn't dropped by 6 months old you should have him neutered because the retained one will turn cancerous. A dog with only 1 even though still fertile, should not be bred from as it's hereditory. It shouldn't have any effects on him by being neutered, his ability to hunt should be the same.

Hope she turns up safe & soon. Got any pics for those in the area? Is she chipped?

My 1st pup is only 14 weeks old so nowhere near working yet, if i don't throw a ball for her she goes and fetches my Chihuahua and brings him to me in the hope i'll throw him for her.

I was telling another member last week about my 13 week old pup retreiving my Chihuahua. They are the best of friends but when they start racing around the pup catches the Chi, picks him up and brings him right to me. She retrieves perfectly to my hand but sometimes has to put the chihuahua down so she pins him with her foot til she can get a better hold to bring him to me. The Chihuahua couldn't care less and thinks it's a good game I also don't want to tell my pup off in case she stops retreining thinking i'll get mad at her. At the moment she will fetch anything i throw for her and r

Was thinking the same thing, when i logged on this morning 1 of the stolen but pinned posts was missing along with RFYL's stolen post. Now they've reappeared but stolen dogs not pinned and this is. Must just be a mistake.

if the radio does not work get him a dvd and if that does not work get him a blowup doll, and if all fails use the old method A GOOD KICK UP THE HOLE Oh yeah that'll work - NOT! Go out, dog gets distressed and wrecks stuff, come home, dog gets really excited and pleased you came back so you go in see the mess and give it a boot up the backside. How to totally mess up your dog and destroy it's trust in you in 1 easy step
-
Think i'd be caging him with a nice comfy bed and a large bone to occupy him. Give him plenty of excercise before you go out so he's more settled, leave a radio on, all helps. When he has settled in properly and doesn't show distress when left you can leave the cage door open and just keep it as his bed but allow him the extra conservatory space but he has to have settled in where you know you wont come back to a trashed room again.

As soon as she's completed her vaccinations you need to get her out and socilaise her to the noisy big world or else first time she gets spooked she may bolt. In the mean time you need to build a bond with her so all she thinks about is pleasing you. Start with retrieves and a bit of tug of war but don't bore her by overdoing it, plenty of praise and build her confidence. Then you can teach her some commands that will be useful like fetch, wait/stay and obviously to come when you call her. You got the whole summer so just enjoy her.

Gutted for you mate, thats so sad. Hope you manage to locate someone who had another pup from the litter, even if to just see how they're coming along.

I had a staffy pup that started posturing with hackles up and snarling at other dogs, he never actually had a fight but i grabbed him by the scruff of the neck, gave him a little shake and growled right at him. The look of surprise on his face said it all and he quit trying to dominate everything and was a very respectful dog after that. See if it works with yours and it's not cruel, just look at any mother with pups and she'll do the same to any pup stepping out of line.

Fasting your dogs? Do you do it?
Shazza replied to vld's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I feed smaller dogs that higher motabilisms twice a day every day. Large dogs once a day and they go without one day a week, here it's a Sunday. Was told by a farmer that he only fed his sheep dogs 6 days a week and it does them good to have a 'clean out day' as wolves and other carnivores do not eat every day. I was only a kid hanging around to watch sheepdogs but it stuck with me and i've always done it with my own dogs. -
I wouldn't touch this supplier with a bargepole and if you've ever ordered using credit/debit card then check your statements carefully as there are loads of people who have been scammed over the last 2 years and the owner is currently being investigated by Police for fraud. If you got a Facebook account there is a whole group of people who have been scammed by him, search Scammed at dog shows and you should find it.

Also need to add as far as the law is concerned a dog is property but possesion is 9/10ths of the law. Unless your dog is very disticively marked and you have detailed photographs of it proving it 100% to be your dog you will not be given the dog back even if you find it with someone else (and i'm talking about doing this legally). The only guarentee's of getting the dog back is permanent identification by Tattoo or micro-chip. 14 years ago i was burgled and taken from my kitchen was my 5 month old Rottie pup. I reported it but got little help from the Police. A week later i had a bunch

Thats ridiculous mate, everyone knows that scum will nick pups as well as adult dogs. They can get lost as well. Most shelters wont let you take a pup unless they chip it first so it dont end up as a stray in the shelter later on & as for Vets, they should know better Most animal charities are backing a campaign to get all breeders responsible for chipping thier pups before they go to new homes regardless whether they are pedigree or crosses, planned ot not. If it comes in then you have to micro-chip and register every pup you breed. Nothing has happened yet but i can see this coming in

Get some "Thornit" powder mate, great stuff it dries up any excess fluid in the ear as well as killing ear mites if present. 1 pinch of powder down the ear canal once a day for 3-4 days and it'll be cleared up

You can't get pups chipped until they are 6 months old. As above, yes ye can. Iv had a few terrier pups from 8 weeks old, they all came ready chipped. They have to be due to the docking. My beagle x jack was 10 months when i got him and i had him chipped same time as the jabs. All of my dogs chips have migrated, usually down one of the front legs. I dread to think what might become of a running dog if the chip migrates along the spine or lodges in some other joint. Has anyone any experience of this? It's rare for chips to migrate but does happen. I'd be surprised if all

When i was trained they told us puppies over 2lbs in weight can be chipped, i do toy breeds at 8 weeks old, anything else at 6 weeks old. I can also chip ferrets, cats & rabbits! LOL

I also saw the video taken after a lad kept saying a dog turned up every night in his bedroom. This was a teenager and his parents set up a video camera to see what was going on. A fox came in (through a cat flap i think) and went upstairs into the lads bedroom, jumped onto his bed and licked his face before having a good mooch around the house and leaving. They couldn't believe it was a fox til they checked out the video next day
