If you have a valid reason for having your rifle in your possesion in a public place, the police cant take your rifle form you unless its to test its power levels 12lb max in the uk or you break a law.(valid reason going to your permmition /hunting grounds, rfd ,gun club etc).If you have it in a public place for no valid reason you should not have a rifle in the first place as it gives all air gun owners a bad press & adds full to the already blazing proverbial inferno.Im not having a pop no pun intended just a bit off friendly advice

Sorry to hear about that, but do stay in touch with the land owner he might have a change of heart and if not ask if he would be good enought to give you a refrence for the service you provided over the years,as that can have a great influence on future permission if you have refrences.

Nice point on the 12 lbs rule airgunguy ,yes it would make it easyer for a fac air riffle.Could do with a few extra ft lbs for the crows good news for us.But the msp have no sense as they try to make it harder to own a sub 12lbs but also easy to get a high power fac air riffle. As most of us are happy with 12 lbs riffles if we all have to get permeted i think a lot might just go for an increase in power as is the same paper work. But on the other hand so if a wee ned or smack head screws some ones gun cabinet or rfd shop they will be running about with a high power air rifle instead of sub 12 i

You did not say if its the spring or gas ram powered fiffle you have ,so these are the results i get out of my .22 lightning xl tactical (gas ram). The rws superdomed work quite well in mine there a good middle weight 14.5 gr and have quite a flat trajectory but groups open up a bit after 35yds,also the eley wasps no3 another middle weight at 14.5 gr good trajectory groups open up at around 30 yrds. But however all riffle/barrels are diffrent but i Hope this info helps.

I use my rat catcher for the same thing and yes its more capable for woodies but as someone previously stated head shots only,at close to medium ranges but the temps can drop the velocity of the pellet in colder conditions so i always check my zero before shooting.

Following my first post i would like to state as a responsible air riffle owner and hunter that i am all for air riffle/pistol security (use gun cabinet etc),and for some sort of register for safety reasons but licences u need to meet certain criteria ie safe storage, medical conditions/history ,age restrictions etc,but what about all the responsible shooters that will be excluded as might not fit this criteria, for instance the age restricted and the disabled shooters that enjoy this great sport so a lot of responsible air gunners will suffer under this proposed plan.I do not think the gover

They would be better targeting the real problem all the nedds and smackheads with the air riffles, rather than targeting all the responsible air riffle/pistol owners. We all pay enough taxes and cash to the government & a load of that goes into a budget to fixing what the dregs of society has caused. Now its more money for licences The be all & end all of it is the nedds & smackheads have cost us more in taxes to pay for the drain on the nhs & justice/court system and now in scotland may have cost us our sport.

That is a nice net your got there i like the 2 tone,iv knitted a few over the years & know the time it takes and the soar /cut fingers and thinking this will never end, shortly after finishing my 50 yrd (100% bag)net in nylon an old game keeper gave a a tip to save my fingers from cuts when pulling the knot tight dont use plasters as they fall of instead cut the pinkies of rubber gloves and cut into bands to put on the finger parts that take the most contact with the tying materials, you cant beat the feeling you get when you finaly take out your completed hand knitted net for its first se

I use old golf flag poles for my long nets poles, most are 10 mm and cut to approx 36 "if you ask the local golf club politely for there old worn or broken ones and explain what there for most will give or sell u them for a small fee. It worked for me, now they keep the old ones aside for me,and i also got asked if i could keep the rabbit numbers down,so in doing so iv also gained more hunting permission on more land

I work on my own most of the time, but only the small to med warrens where i can keep an eye on the action and also with a locator collar on the ferrets,i find that the use of stop nets to section of parts of the warren can help at times,on the bigger warrens i always try to get a few people out as the more eyes n hands the better,as even on the small to med warrens the action can some times be near on impossible to keep up

Cheers will have a look, thanks for the replies.

Hi iv just managed to aquire some old fiberglass 10mm golf flag poles that were no longer needed from the local golf club (that granted my permition). So have now been cut in half to about 1mtr lengths,iv managed to get 10mm rubber endcaps for the top of them from a stickmaking company, but have unfortunatly im having problems aquiring 10mm grommets as most suppliers only stock 12mm grommets that keep sliding of the poles If anyone knows where i could get some 10mm grommets if they could let me know, that would be great thanks

Hi there are a lot of sites offering quick set longnets JSB netting has a few,1x 100 or 2x 50yrds personaly i would go for 2 50yrd nets as you could set 2 diffrent parts of a field at the same time but if you need a larger set its just a case of setting the 2 netts as for oz its realy a personal choice as 6oz is handy for in rough ground but has a habit of letting some of the rabbits bounce off the net,4oz its great stuff if you dont mind cleaning the net more often as it picks up every leaf, twig etc,but most importantly is the amount of bag the nett has as a lot contain only 50% bag,to work a

yes it was on one of my posts that i was advised to let the end pins go rusted as my end pegs were also 8mm steel,& i can say that this was a great tip as it makes picking up & storeing the netts a hole lot easyer as it stops the nets from sliping of the pins

Just a quick update i ended up making a 50yds traditional long net with 100% bag & a 25yds traditional long net with 100% bag,so decided when im out with the dog to run the 25yds net to check the net,run out & pick up with no problems now iv replaced the end pins to the slightly rusted ones rather than the smooth ones,so walked the length of the field on returning to the net found a nice brace(2)of rabbits perfectly balled up.

You can ferret anytime it suits you,iv allways left to go ferreting in the early morning 07.00-09.00 but most of my ferrets will hunt anytime of the day, however if iv got a few with me i normaly switch them round about mid day so the ones i use in the morning dont get nackered & lieup.

Thanks for the replys,i think i will try a combination of all the tips given & will keep you all update on how i get on

Unfortunatly its true that most councils have a no hunting policy, unless they are over run with vermin species & yes its hard to get permition however when enquiring about permition be it through letter or over the phone i have found that it often helps if you are & state what insurance you have & that most of your pest contol is carried out at night. As to assure that its being done with minimum disturbance & away from the publics veiw. That way they are more likely to grant permition ,but if not keep trying,as you will get more refusals than granted permition.THE HARDEST HUNT I

Yep iv got the same problems when picking up,thats when i tend to lose control of the nets at most sizes 50yrds+ as cant seam to hold all the bag/kill on the end pins as i dont seem to have enough fingers n thumbs ,the seting of the nets i have no problems with until i go over 75yrds but mostly in breezy/windy conditions,iv though over your replyes regarding the idea of making the 2 nets in 25yds + 50yrds,so im now thinking a 25yds 100% bag/kill traditional long net as i wouldnt loss control of that one ,but was toying with the idea of making the 50yds 100% bag/kill but in a quick set setup a

Iv just managed to aquire an 150yds sheet of 4oz netting,so have decided to build my own long net as with some of the shop bought nets iv had were supplied with only 50% bag/kill which i have found hasnt realy got enought bag to hold most rabbits,i have worked with longnets that have 100%bag/kill but find that i sometimes lost control of the net when in bigger sizes (75yds-150yds),so thought of building them with 70-75% bag/kill,so i was just wondering which % of bag most of you like in your nets.
