Whistle feeding
A1an replied to 1888andybhoy's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
How long can you afford to keep feeding them for? Thats what it boils down to at the end of the day. Wheat has gone through the roof, if you are managing to shoot 78% of what you put down, I would stop feeding at the end of the season. -

Whistle feeding
A1an replied to 1888andybhoy's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
why on earth would you want to hand feed when hoppers are obviously working? Hand feeding is a pain in the ass, many a 'keeper would love to have the luxury of hopper fed birds. Its very tying, you HAVE to be there, EVERYDAY, twice a day at first release. My advice......dont bother. -
We mixed our own concrete which saves a fortune and liberated some supplies from the builders that were doing my extension. I wouldnt like to do a PROPER spreadsheet for it. It might be closer to £3k

As you can see from the above pictures, we were puting an extension on to the house at the same time so the builders being on site came in handy. I decided on automatic drinkers and insulation in the walls. -18 is being a regular occurance in winter here now and sometimes lasting for a good while so since there was some lying around from the extension work it seemed daft not to use it. The inside lined out and drinkers plumbed in. Thats pretty much it, they have a raised bed that is higher than the access hole in the door to stop them being in any direct draughts. Its

The new runs arrived, I bolted them together and test fitted them, I hoped I had my figures right Bang on, time to get building. I put a run of block around the line of the hut section, on top of the block I put a DPC to stop and damp creeping up the blockwork into the timber. I did things a bit arse for tit as I made the kit first then did the blockwork after! Starting to take shape.

My old kennels were starting to look a little tatty and with having the Estate Lodge accross the courtyard I thought they didnt set a very good example, old concrete is hard to keep clean, they were starting to smell no matter how much I cleaned and disinfected them. It was time to start again. First up was where? There was a patch of grass out the back of my house that would be perfect, the kennels could be south facing, out of view of the Estate Lodge and close enough to be able to run power and water from the Estate workshop First job was to take the trees down and raise

They would work for me until the death. Its the least I can do. Over the years i have noticed that you dont get the same amount of years out of a dog that lives in the kennel to that of one that lives in a nice comfy C/H'd house, it takes years off them, especially with the winters we get up here. Hopefully by spending a few extra pounds on the kennels Il get that little bit more from the dogs. Maybe thats not the case but we can only try.

lamping aftercare for dogs feet

obviously sarcasm doesnt come over on a text based forum. Il know for future to keep any posts purely factual. My apologies. -
The smaller the better. This one is great at getting cubs in tight spaces, she no fighter but tbh I dont need that in a dog. We all have our own way of doing things and my way suits me fine. This one could find a den from a mile away. She has some nose.

They dont, the pipes are within insulated walls and since puting the foil in the kennel the heat keeps them ice free.

I have heat lamps in all my kennels, if Im honest I wasnt that impressed, to get any proper heat into the dog the lamp would be too close and the terriers would be hanging off them in no time. We have recently had 4 houses built and the building paper (you know, the green/red stuff) was replaced for some super dooper foil backed paper, I whipped some from the builders and lined the inside and roof of my kennels with it.... what a DIFFERENCE!! The kennels are now warm. To give you an idea of the size of kennel with a 750W IR bulb.

From flat you are looking at an eight and a half hours charge time.

Put him in the kennel with a bowl of food. He can clean his own feet. -

Opinel is the way forward. That way you wont want to punch yourself in the face for losing a £100 knife.

The same setup as I have but I have a Leupold instead of the Meopta. Norma 110gr Vmax BT bullets are the dogs goolies.

Its so easy even Stevie Wonder could do it. Firstly remove the whole head from the animal. Place the head on a worktop/bench so that it is facing you, slice to the skull with a knife right down from between the horns to the nose, use this to now skinning both the left and the right sides of the head. Now with the head skinned it is time for cutting the required mount, there is a jig available for this but with a little time and patience you can do just as good a job free hand. Holding the horn put the head on its nose, you can now cut from the top of the head, down through the eye sock
