I’ve eaten carp twice ( quite rightly taboo in the UK ) one from the Ural delta Kazakhstan, it was a large fish steemed/boiled, a novelty to try but not great, watery tasteless flesh. While fishing a very large gravel pit in Hungary locals kept some small fish 4/5lb which they cooked for us. Marinated in herbs and spices then bbq’d, that was delicious a firm meaty flesh. Besides the different cooking methods the water they came from was crystal clear, like tap water. As opposed to the Ural carp which came from turbulent coloured water!

Thanks Rabid,Gaz for the advice. I think I was a bit ambitious I was only there for four nights but on these short trips I do sometimes manage a half days fishing, unfortunately not on this occasion. As Rabid has said " gone fishing " is the place for the information. The shore fishing potential looks exciting. Definitely worth a visit with fishing in mind! Despite the arid, almost prehistoric landscape the island has a unique beauty, not much in the way of wildlife but i did see Hoopoe! In my opinion say away from the likes of Corralejo and Morro jable, we stayed in Gran Tarajal, no hotels an

On the Seven today for a last day of the season barbus but it will be carp with the odd trout trip for the next three months

Thanks to Griff's inspiration and his tutorial. This is my customised opined no8 it's not perfect, there's a lot of play in the blade but using the original locking mechanism (when open and closed) makes it fully functional. Despite it's imperfection I'm well pleased. Thanks again Griff

Thanks Griff, it's easy when you know how although i still managed to make a bit of a mess of it. Fashioning the antler to replace the handle is going to be the real challenge!!!

A pair of sir-clip pliers springs the collar off, quick file to the sides of the rivet head to take the splay off and punch it through. One end of the rivet generally only has a slight splay so dosn't take much, can re-use the rivet on re-assemble and just round over wit ball-pin hammer. I plan to do some step by step pictures next time and will post them up.

Stunning transformation of an opinel Griff. I have no intention of going into competition but how did you get the original handle off? When I've attempted it I've felt I'm going to do irreversible damage to the blade meconisem/clamp!! Thanks Dave

Same here, north Cotswold's, little to no rabbits, on some of the ground I've access to there's literally none, no sign of activity droppings act around holes they were there last year? Other areas have few rabbits or mixi. Mixi has always come and gone so don't see this as main reason. An area in Wiltshire I ferret, bolting rabbit to hawk, has the same problem the rabbit population there must be down to 15-20% of what it was. This doesn't look good for the future of the sport!!

As ratattack and others have suggested live bait rig even if you just fish it on one rod. First read about this rig approximately 25 years ago in an article by John Darling in sea angler mag, although obvious now at the time it seemed a fantastic idea to be able to use a fresh lively bait at -100 yds

Mackem your absolutely right but a missed placed bullet is more likely to bring down a beast than a missed placed arrow. Anyone "sharpening their arrows" should hone them finer than one "sharpening their barrels " There's nothing more natural than bow hunting it precedes fire arms by a millennium, it's something I'd love to experience but I do believe it requires far more time and practice than a rifle and probably more than I could invest in it Happy hunting

Yes shroom, to me it's all part of it the impala and kudu are particularly nice
