  1. Out today with the mutts working the hedgerows suddenly spring has kicked in hawthorn breaking into leaf, oilseed rape that has grown a foot this week, end of season but theres a great feel good factor in the air, Saw a green woodpecker hammering on a tree, rooks cawing as i passed them by, chaffinches and bullfinches in full breeding colour, and thought how spring gets earlier every year. As a kid i remember march as being windy and freezing, global warming i reckon, but great to get out and enjoy. YIS KIC.
  2. WHAT YEAR AND DO YOU SEE BULL IN THOSE BREEDS.
  3. Classic examples of horrendous genetic engineering by so called experts of the canine world, descriptions of uses and working ability that belong in grimms fairy tales. Worst example for me was the alsatian, whoops sorry now called the german sheperd rear legs that looked like they belonged on a jack russell and front legs that looked 4inches longer,a great example of how to breed hip dysplasia into a dog, words fail me what i think about those twats that breed for greed.
  4. Not bad them, and im a yorkshireman not offended. But tennents lager ffs man up and get a proper drink.
  5. I didnt like him anyway he wasnt right in the head.
  6. Strange but that type of fear can sometimes induce a lesser trained dog into an attack, people who show that type of fear do seem to get bitten more often.
  7. Did you ever make throwing arrows them things were bloody lethal.
  8. Reading these posts strikes a chord with me as a child in the early to mid sixties i did all this type of stuff, never had any sense of time always getting home late because there was so much to do, fishing poaching, exploring if you saw a keep out sign on any property it was an open invitation to go in and explore it, how many kids had an egg collection, its a wonder there are any songbirds left. Round my neck of the woods i remember roadside copses often had a resident tramp living in them something you dont see these days, often ex servicemen who couldnt re adjust to civvy life after the wa
  9. Ever seen a really good name for a buisness i remember seeing a guy called ed who ran his own roofing buisness, at the time he was working in beverley, his van had a picture of a duck painted on the side and he traded under the name of TITUS ARDUXAS he said thats how waterproof his roofs were. Brilliant.
  10. Got this horrible feeling that chris packham is being groommed as attenboroughs replacement god forbid. As for beaver being re introduced we used to hunt it in most of the towns in this country.
  11. Lurchers these days seem to have become more like fashion items, certain crosses attract certain people and that isnt always a good thing. Best working dog i saw didnt look like what most peoples idea of a lurcher should look like, it was a mongrelly looking cur with obvious collie traits, but it could do the job that was required of it, it often dissapeared on its own and would return with game of some description. As said if you want a dog look at the quarry your hunting, type of ground your hunting do a bit of research and make your decision. ATB KIC.
  12. Your right there mate got a solway zipper i bought in 1985 and still wear it in the field, its a bit battered now but then so am i, they used to say that you only bought one barbour in your lifetime, but the modern trendy ones that look like the belstaff bikers jacket with the barbour label displayed on the front wont last as long. Nowadays the majority ive seen wearing them are the barbie lookalikes on the school run in 3litre 4x4s with no towbar. you know the type the ones you meet on narrow country lanes and wont pull their wheels onto the verge so you can both pass, god forbid that you sho
  13. Looks like its official the mongrel is extinct, or is it a word you cant use these politically correct days
  14. 14LB cod taken yesterday at the runnell holmpton beach.
  15. Jesus mate i only want something reasonably simple that thing looks like stephensons rocket, thanks for posting though.
  16. On a walk with my two dogs this morning a dog came flying through a hedge and attacked my lurcher, took a bite into its foreleg before my whippet intervened, anyway the lurcher came too its senses and laid into the agressor the owner then appeared a shaven headed neanderthal that seemed quite pissed off that his dog had just taken a beating, he went on to explain that it was a rescue dog and that hed had problems with it. So why do rescue centers release these dogs to idiots that should not be allowed to own a gerbil or hamster or any animal with a higher IQ than themselves. Unfortunately the
  17. Finally decided to build my own smoker, i want a hot and cold smoker, and was wondering if any of you guys had any advice on one eg materials ect, been given so much conflicting advice, that i thought id ask on here. Has anyone got any photos or plans of one, and if you have one of your own, how succesful has it been. any advice would be appreciated. CHEERS.
  18. Fitted plenty of these and seen plenty DIY disasters above 5k the room needs venting, i would always fit a flue liner as tar and creosote can run down the back of the flue and make a right mess, common fault is people often fit the liner upside down which causes the residue to run down the outside of the liner, always fit a nose cone and rope to the liner when installing will save you no end of grief, fitting register or closure plate can sometimes be tricky. but not beyond the ability of the average DIYer. Anyway good luck with it.
  19. One of the most frequently asked questions on this site is what height will my dog make.now does anyone do their homework and look beyond the pups parents, ie grandparents and if possible beyond them, ive seen dogs make heights that dwarf their parents, the over simplification of genetics seems to be a common fault among potential lurcher owners and potential breeders. And at the end of the day is height that important if the dog can do the job than what the hell, or does the bigger dog improve your image. YIS KIC
  20. No doubt that such early dogs were the result of some form of herding dog or drovers dog such as the legendary smithfield, good working terriers were around in the nineteeth century bred specifically for the rat pits, i doubt in those days any dog that couldnt earn its keep would have been around for long most people lived on the breadline. YIS KIC.
  21. Does a great wathbewwy flan though.
  22. Predictions please i think the underdogs [hull] may just pull it off. Anyway on paper looks like a good game heres hoping.
  23. The bitch i have is a mix of both collie grey dam beddy grey sire, she was purpose bred because there are certain qualities in both crosses that i liked, she has the scenting ability that a lot of beddy crosses possess, and has the intelligence of the collie cross without the bad points, and sulkiness that some possess. She stands 24tts and works the nets and lamp, and as a mooching dog she does very well. Problem is you dont see many for sale good luck with your search, its a cross i can recomend. YIS KIC
