  1. from what i've heard they are longer legged, when you look at one you will easily see through the gap between the belly and ground, but i could be way off...
  2. the war dance is something they do naturally, when they play fight they do it,i have a jill and if you squeek and grab/tickle her she does it,can be funny to watch, bet there's plenty of vids on youtube...
  3. that's a good question,i have ferreted without one...
  4. try small setts,4 or 5 holes maybe and be patient,i wouldn't take on bigger setts until you can locate your ferret with more accuracy,or know more techniques to find him or get him to come out or you could be in for a long wait,or worse you could be going home without him.
  5. pest control is perfectly normal,i would shoot them on the lamp myself.
  6. Well they seem to be with young now so should I leave it a month or two? Thanks NWH if they have young now they have started breeding and will carry on til about september so you would be best to wait i think but like i say we are all different and some things can only be used to guide and advise, sorry can't be specific though.
  7. good to get out and meet new people and try new spots, and bag a few!
  8. start in september, then carry on through til end of february or into march depending on when you start finding pregnant does, but we all have different seasons, you will soon find when you can start/stop in your area.
  9. that's the kind of ferreting we love and loathe at the same time!sounds like you're getting on well with the ferreting and owners, nice little read there, good job you've got so many options...
  10. it is all about getting out,all weathers, seven is a good bag considering... still snowing?where abouts are you,out of curiosity?
  11. got some time left i reckon,so far not found a pregnant doe on any of my permission, you watch they will all be in kittle tomorrow!!
  12. make the most if it's your last outing, enjoy!
  13. it is true that if he keeps gettin stick he will ignore this forum(which contains everything to know about ferrets/keeping them through all it's members)and attempt to do it how he sees fit, which may be totally wrong,it probably does frustrate people to see these type of posts but surely a bit of guidance is better than an earhole bashing, constructive critism is helpful in the right dose but we need a balance,do we not?if we can take the time to post then maybe have a moan and give advice at the same time?for the ferrets sake if nothing else because ultimatly there will only be one loser...
  14. they need to come out of season, not breed there's a difference,a snipped hob or jill jab is your best choice, another jill will be best for company as a hob will mate with her repeatedly and it's not a nice experience for her.
  15. it was invented in the 40's whilst trying to create a new plastic and eventually was tested on flesh, famously finding use in vietnam, sorry to hi-jack your post!!!!
  16. great first post,i'm sure everyone will be lining up to add you as a friend
  17. i've just read this thread and have been chuckling to my self all the way through, there are some funny folk about!
  18. would expect the body clock to kick in still, how long is she going to be in the shed without natural light though?
  19. i use alpha ferret feast when i give them dry food
  20. they are best i think,i have built a lift up lid one with a piece of wood across the front to stop them climbing out when the top is open,i lost a hob for two nights not long ago and he escaped from a hutch with a normal door,i know how relieved you must feel to find your little bugger!
  21. you can get dust extracted stuff designed for small animals though,i use it all over the hutch, bed, play area and toilet, and the bedding is an old t shirt and hay,i've never had a tick problem.
  22. hey martin, she's still feisty then!!hope you get the best from her cus i think she's got real potential!
  23. they do stop eventually,at times you feel like your fighting a losing battle but keep going and you will end up with one of the best pets there are(and yes working ferrets are still pets!)
  24. and don't do anything to hurt her as punishment because she will associate your hands with pain... patience is your best option here, offer the back of your hand with spit on it to distract her while you lift her with the other she should come good with time.
