  1. sounds like a good day,the dogs worked well by the sounds of things and i'm sure we've all seen promising big warrens only to get one or two out then hit four or five from a six holer on the way back, keeps us busy though...
  2. that's the best advice,on here made to order,or ebay, but you get much better communication/advice here.when your ready let people know, with all the info and you should shift a few.
  3. jocky has 2 polecat jills he's giving away in tamworth, and a sandy hob, worth an ask if he's still got them but they won't be there for long!
  4. my hob will follow me if i call him, albeit in a zig zag pattern but he comes, from right down the garden aswell, and when i take them an egg they drop off the wire and que at the bowl,so must be fairly bright, but like kevin says people don't put that kind of time in,so most of us will never know...
  5. could just be small,my friend has a real small jill and i think it's from a normal litter,my own jill is pretty small aswell but from normal sized parents so maybe they just pop out occasionally.
  6. it's a horrible feelin to lose a ferret, especially a good worker, did you not have collars on them then?
  7. thats quite an adventure for all! i have bolted a stoat which jumped out through one net,in through another then back out through a different one then away and hardly caused a ripple and all in about twenty seconds, glad the dog is ok though once saw a squirrel bite a harris hawk toe almost off! they got some gnashers!
  8. self builds are defo better, you get the satisfaction of making something and all to the sizes you require, and at a sniff of the price,i made my own some time ago still looks like new and is more solid than my mate's which is smaller and cost a fortune.the treatment you chose should last forever so will get many years of happy ferrets through the doors.
  9. it just shows how moronic some people are, they claim to be morally superior somehow then assault people, happened to a pal of mine a few years ago, pretty much the same thing and ended in a scuffle where he was kicking at them cus they were pushin and shovin and my friend had to pack up and go home cus they were going to call the police,it's like your somehow this major criminal for taking part in an ancient sport with generations of tradition, and in most cases doing some necassary pest control.
  10. i think some of the lads are right they are only worth anything to people who want them as pets where looks matter, and i think £10/£15 is about the goin rate,or seems to be around leicester area anyway,i have a sable hob,and albino hob and jill, all were given to me so i think puttin a value on their looks is daft, especially if your going to work them.
  11. think i will have a go and see how it turns out,if i get about ten or so that will be fine for now, thanks all.
  12. i suppose trial and error is the best way, will just buy a spool and see how far it goes.
  13. hi all i'm looking at making my own nets,i love the satisfaction of making things and then using them, but am unsure how much hemp i need cus it comes in weight not length,so can anyone please tell me how many nets at 3.5 or 4 feet will 500grams of hemp make me,thanks.
  14. a good day out it sounds, and a bit of ferreting on your own is a good thing i think, you are limited in what you can get done but keeps you thinking and is all the more rewarding, just travel light and work small setts and you should enjoy yourself.
  15. i find goin to the land owner and just bein polite usually does the trick, make it clear what you want permission to do there to avoid confusion later and let them know each time you arrive/leave if you can. good luck gettin some hunting ground.
  16. that's agood haul boys,i've not brought home double figures for some time, almost forgot what that much fur looks like!!
  17. Hi everyone, just a quick hello and to say I'm looking forward to sharing advice and stories with fellow hunters,I enjoy ferreting and shooting(not as often as I'd like...)and hope being a member here makes my hunting a little more enjoyable,regards,web22.
