  1. I run single handed on the lamp. The 3/4 bred collie greyhound in my avatar pic weighed 90lbs plus in his prime. He was a large solidly built powerful dog. One night when lamping with someone who I hadn't lamped with before my dog was in hot pursuit of his quarry, he turned it and came galloping full tilt towards us and the retard I had along with me slipped his beddie/whippet which was promptly run into the ground by my big dog. The small dog was out cold for what must've been 5 minutes and it was never the same dog again. Luckily my dog was okay. First and last time I lamped with this idiot.
  2. i use the same as that and run my dogs 3 times a week i do 8 km a session then the other couple days just go strolling wit them for about 2 hours a day but as all ready said becareful wit the temptures just before dark is a good time to run them Yeah sounds like a cracking bit of kit - gonna get one of these. Thanks
  3. Looks like a good idea - thanks for that.
  4. Do they run loose beside/behind the bike or do you have them on a string.
  5. Think I'll try my new puppy on it! Thanks for that.
  6. What's IV & NARGC? Countryside Alliance might be worth a look. National Association of Regional Game Councils ,and IV is short for i have Thanks for that.
  7. Never used Gain Puppy & Sapling but have used Gain Record Breaker and Gain 28. They're excellent. What's the protein in Gain Puppy and Sapling as I'm picking up a new puppy in 6 weeks and I think I will use it? Thanks
  8. Oh - forgot to add that I once asked my ex-wife to pick up a bag of Gain 28 at the pet store. And told her that if they didn't have Gain 28 to get something else instead and she came home with a f*****g gerbil??? Yeah get your own dog food mate - safer that way???
  9. Might be the high protein especially if he's not doing as much. What's the protein percentage. Go half and half with something with less protein content in it. Never used Red Mills myself have heard it cam make their stools a bit loose???
  10. Drontal Plus - try and get them online. If you get them from a vet it's about £20 for two tablets 1 x 10kg - pretty much daylight f*****g robbery. Last tome I got them they were £14 for two at agricultural supplier. Must be cheaper online....???

  12. The household name insurance companies won't - from what I have seen insure working lurchers, racing or coursing dogs.
  13. I've aways favoured dogs - seemed to gel better with them. What in your opinion make the best fox dogs?
  14. Do any of you have your dogs insured. I realise that hunting, racing and coursing (which is banned anyway) would void your policy. And that some breeds are exempt - they'll insure lurchers but not deerhounds??? But a dog getting killed in another way (i.e running into a wire net fence) - which we've read about on this site in the past few days would be covered as would theft, illness etc. I'm thinking of insuring my pup. Any thoughts, experience would be appreciated.
  15. Collie Greyhound for me. I've had both 1/2 bred and 3/4 bred and currently have a 7 month old 3/4 bred puppy. Did rabbit, hare, fox deer with my 3/4s pre ban of course. Half cross couldn't have caught a hare to save his life (ironically lost his life coursing a hare) but was the real thing on everything else and could outstay the 3/4 bred every time. Tractable, loyal, tough, athletic and gutsy I wouldn't have anything else.
  16. I feed morning and night. I also use Gain 28 and raw meat (chicken, beef, tripe, lamb breast organ meat and bone) with cod liver oil also sardines or mackerel with pasta and egg whites 2/3 times a week. All good stuff.
  17. Can't imagine and don't know what it must be like to have someone lift your dog/s. I'd be gutted. Mine lives in and comes to work with me.
  18. This is all getting a bit tiresome now Patrick. I've got a funny feeling this is a bit of a piss take folks.
  19. Just do it? Over the past couple of days you have been given loads of advice mate. But you keep posting wanting advice. Switch the PC off and do it??????
  20. Thanks chalkwarren - yeah Jack's pretty excited. He'd been at me for a couple of years, after looking at some photos of my old dogs, to get another running dog but I made him wait until he was 13. So the week before his 13th birthday in December we bought the puppy. If I'm honest I'm as excited as he is. I hadn't had a big dog for nearly 15 years since my merle 3/4 died. I'd kinda forgotten how much they take over your life - and we're really pleased with him. Roll on next winter. borderscot is that the verteesh in the pic with the lad holding the dog,he looks a cracker best of luck

  22. I'd rather put up with a few cuts, scrapes and sometimes worse to have a dog that will jump. In my opinion jumping is an essential part of a lurcher's toolkit. It would piss me off to see a dog chase until it comes to a fence only to see it come to a halt and hear it yapp its face off running a fenceline as the quarry skips off laughing into the distance. Teach it to jump!

  24. Hi Skycat - I totaly agree with you here. What a waste of money. I actually thought it was an April Fool lark at first. We have a new baby daughter (6 months old - first cross between my wife and I) and when we first took the trip to Mothercare I quickly realised that there was nothing that hadn't been thought of, manufactured, packaged and marketed as being 'essential' to the health and wellbeing of the baby. And 90% of it is totally unnecessary!!!
  25. Hey mate - you'd be better trying to hook up with someone in your area. Failing that buy a lamp and get out there. Windy dark night, down wind, walk up to likely looking rabbits and slip him when he sees them - they'll probably need to be hightailing it before he sees them!!!. You'll make mistakes and so will your wee dog. But the penny will drop and you'll never look back. Take care and good luck.
