  1. Caught hundreds of mink using cage traps - also used tinned dog/cat food as bait. That seemed to do the trick perfectly. Good luck.
  2. Bought and sold working collies for lots of money. Paid £750 for one in 1984 - and it was one of the best collies I've ever had and also paid fair sums for what amounted to little more that the pastoral equivalent of Mad Frankie Fraser. Sold some good collies for fair amounts too. If a dog is expensive is it a guarantee that it's going to do what you want time and time again? Don't suppose it is. If I'd ever had to get rid of any of my lurchers/terriers I might've just given it to someone who lived as far away from me as possible and someone that I was never going to see again as I might ju
  3. My old Border is 13 and has lived with all our kids - we had a new baby girl 7 months ago and he's great with her. I had his mum and dad and his grandfather and grandmother. All great with our kids, oldest is 18 and as I say youngest is 7 months. However, I'd never ever trust a dog 100% - we've always been careful as the kids can sometimes be rough with them. Having said that - I have had lurchers in the past that would have - and did - killed terriers in a minute. Borders are good with kids - but it's what you know - I'm sure folk'll have great things to say about patts, russells, fells etc?
  4. Me? Ah'd just ignore it. Had it pretty bad with one of my old collie greys 25 years ago. Lasted 3 months - 'bout drove me mad did think about shooting it to be honest!!!! Glad I didn't as he turned out to be a 'real' dog. Got 8 month old 3/4 collie grey at the minute and he tried the same thing at 5 months lasted 2/3 weeks - I just ignored him. Had other collie greys tho that've been fine. Never had a dog with Saluki in it - so dunno what odds that makes. Just try ignoring it. Don't get annoyed with it tho? Good luck.

  7. How's he bred and how old is he???
  8. I've trapped mink and rats in the past using live catch traps and was looking for advice regarding the use of live catch rabbit traps. Where to site them, what to use for bait and where do you purchase quality traps of this type etc???? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  9. Hey I think those milages are seriously excessive for a 10 week old puppy - "5th walk 10.5 miles". Take care mate I think that's way over the top. I'd be careful with it? Just don't see the point in walking a 10 week old puppy 10 miles plus. In fact I can't see the benefit of walking any f*****g running dog 10 miles a day????
  10. I have my pup chasing a ball thrown from one of those - dunno what they're called - plastic arm extension things. I can throw it far and fast and when it hits the ground the puppy gets a chance to practice striking at it - especially good when it bobbles about left or right or upwards!!! Not like other dummies that just thud and stop where they land. Good for his reflexes. Good to have them retrieving a variety of different things, balls, leads, proper dummies with or without fur, rope, my hat, other toys, mobile phone, car keys and dead stuff - fur and feather!!!
  11. I read a post on another sub forum of this site discussing raw meat diets. One guy wrote that once a fortnight he fasts his dogs for a period of 48 hours. I think this period of time is excessive. But that's just my opinion. I know guys who feed only 6 days out of 7 saying it keeps them interested/keen on their food. Do you fast your dogs (obviously not puppies) and if so, over what periods of time and what are the benefits?
  12. Not sure I agree with leaving your dog for a full 2 days without anything to eat???? Have heard of folk feeding 6 days out of 7 which would be 24 hours without food but 48 hours at one time seems an awful long time? Anyone else do this??
  13. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR PRIME FEET LOOK AT B/COLLIES FEET HIGH TIGHT FEET ,TOES CLOSE TOEGETHER AND BOUNCING WHEN THEY WALK. BAD FEET ,FLAT OUTSTRETCHED WEBBED,OPEN TOES LIKE FLIPPERS,NAILS LIKE FREDDY KRUGERS GLOVE. NIGHT,N,DAY I had a 3/4 bred collie greyhound in the 's (my avatar pic) who had big flat open feet. He was a great dog but after a few hard days/nights he needed a few off. I had a half x collie grey at the same time who had top notch feet high, tight and compact who would run every night and never take any hurt. I have a 3/4 bred 8 month old puppy at the minute who has grea
  14. Yeah off next weekend for a first x puppy. Good to hear that yours is doing well.
  15. Have you any idea how stupid your comment re keepers and lurcher ownership not equating to being a true keeper is? Yeah you probably have got some idea if you read the other comments on this site. What a pile of shit!!! I know a couple of decent hard working keepers who own lurchers - what a really silly thing to say? Um. . . . you kind of missed the boat on that one mate Ha Ha Ha you're right there mate - end of the week, tired and what not. Shoulda read the whole thing eh?

  17. Is that the Hancock pup that had blood in it's stools mate?
  18. Yeah - that's about right. Ask a boy to do a man's job and he'll complain when the going gets tough.
  19. Sure it'll be able to jump all you need it to do - 5 bar gate included!
  20. I'd have the 3/4 bred collie greyhound pictured in my avatar back in a minute if I could??? Got him from Hancock - he was a Taffy puppy) in 1986 and he died when he was 11. He did the lot. He wasn't the best hare dog in the world for sure but he always gave his all, great lamper though, had treble figure fox count and numerous deer had a great nose and provided me with more fun and thrills than I ever could have imagined. Didn't have the best feet (big and flat)had a strange disposition, wasn't too great with kids and bit my wife more than once, hated terriers and strangers but he was brave an
  21. Cheers mate - yeah it'll al be worth it. I'm sure we'll have some cracking nights over the next few years. Take care - speak soon.
  22. Well you were certainly right about this one going well... get a comfy seat and enjoy...
