  1. Yeah probably wrote some ferreting/lurcher pieces but he wrote some cracking lamping/longnetting and general lurcher articles. Phil Lloyd wasn't one of those guys who regurgitated stuff others wrote and added a few cliches here and there. If he wrote it you knew it was written through hard won experience, first hand knowledge and from a man who knew exactly what he was talking of.
  2. phil used to write regular for the shooting news in them days .all those articles im sure appeared in that paper and the dogs you mentioned .the shooting news in them days was a good read .it was the forerunner to the cmw Yeah mate used to love the old Shooting News. Phil Lloyd wrote some great articles wouldn't have missed them. Used to like the terrier stuff Daergi wrote too. Wasn't there a girl used to contribute - think she was called Sue Sowerby? Maybe not. I don't think the CMW is as good as the Shooting News - used to love that. cannae remember the shooting news, im no
  3. Teddy Moritz i think?American lady? Yeah - Teddy Moritz used to write in it she had a massive old bulldog - i'm sure a girl called Sue Sowerby used to do some lurcher stuff too. I'm sure she died when she was really young - shame.
  4. Had a Deben Electronics Blue Eye lamp years ago - it was 110,000 candle power and I used it loads. Great little lamp to use when you weren't meant to be where you were as it was just bright enough withiut lighting up for miles around. Lost it one night in a kinda tight situation...do Deben still make lamps?

  6. you could avoided the critisism if you had said they were cutting fences and generally just being c**ts in your OP.you may have got a bit of sympathy.lads who chop fences and basically just cause damage are not hunters, just vandals, and hardly warrant the tag poachers. I agree you could've saved yourself a bit of grief if you had said they were killing sheep, chasing cuddies and cutting fences!!! I wonder tho? Have you embellished things a little, chucked in a few porkies and added a few exaggerations to sweeten the milk?
  7. Thanks Simoman do you know which edition - was there only the one? I'm sure it had a speckled cattle dog cross on the front and orange cover?
  8. Read a couple of great articles years ago by Phil Lloyd one was regarding a first cross collie bitch called Maddie who he sadly lost pretty early on in her life article titled somethig like 'Giving a Dog your Heart to Tear or something along these lines another article was regarding chaining/tying dogs up and was called A Little Bit of Bondage...or something similar or had those words in the title. Don't know if they were in the same mag or book but I can't find them anywhere - early Running Dog Journal maybe...anyway I must've loaned to someone (haven't we all) and never got them back!!! Does
  9. Like those two mate - cracking looking dogs. Credit to you.
  10. Might be okay for Italians... Knew someone who had one years ago - it was a pet - and to be honest I used to look at it and think 'why'?
  11. I think this would be worth exploring further. Has anyone done this or got info on how to go about setting a trip like this up? Or contacts in Europe?
  12. Check out the post by adamb20 titled Pup - sheep on the lurcher section. Some good, bad and ugly advice on there!
  13. I had a Taffy 3/4 in the 80s too. That's him in my avatar. He was a good dog. Chhers mate. mine was rough coated and probably one of the best dogs i ever had the plesure of owning and working,i also had a richard jones x sally dog that was fantastic at the time, looking forward to see how this pup goes for you atb tom Thanks mate - will post progress. I had a Richard Jones puppy too - cracking dog. Not as flashy as the Taffy pup but he was great fun. Broke a hind leg and hd him put down when he was 5 years old.
  14. Jesus mate - you're superbly confident that you are able to take on - you and your quad - these 2 or 3 guys??? Not quite getting that to be honest. That's just a wee bit silly. Not sure what you hoped to gain by coming on here and spouting that off. When we were wee laddies we used to knock doors and run like f**k!!! The only doors worth knocking were the doors at which you were guaranteed a good chase. I can see you and your quad are going to be busy over the next wee while. Take care and be good? And make sure you're reasonably confident you can eat it before you bite it?
  15. Hey Martin - yeah the black dog came from Hancock too. He's a 3/4 bred by Kubla. He was 8 months old last week. He's 26" ats and weighs 60lbs plus. We got him in December. He was 15 weeks when we got him - that caused a few problems, separation anxiety etc. And to be honest as I've posted before he hasn't been easy to live with. However, outside in the field he has been a total delight to train and is a seriously obedient, well-behaved and tractable dog. Roll on September! What about your bitch? How she bred and how's she doing? hi pal shes sired by tweedle dum and stands 24 1/2 i
  16. And once you've drilled it into him do it again and again and again! Do it once a week for 6 weeks and you'll be fine mate. Good luck and all the best with him. Keep us posted eh? I'm keen to see how you get on! And then go and own up to the owner of the sheep and see if he wants some arsewipe and his ill trained dog walking through his fields That'll help the lad eh? Well done!
  17. By Alex mate. Looking forward to it.
  18. I had a Taffy 3/4 in the 80s too. That's him in my avatar. He was a good dog. Chhers mate.
  19. Where's the time gone? Don't want to think about it mate - scares the shit out of me!!!!
  20. You think it might have a touch of bull in it? Looks like it has in the face/head? Maybe not.
