  1. Really not trying to be a messer, I've messaged you - just got overwhelmed with stud offers then sidetracked with Christmas. Thanks to all who have been in touch and offered advice and feedback, my little bitch is showing no sign of coming into heat yet (she was bang on schedule last June and December, typical!), so I'm going to wait until Christmas is over and review everything and get back to people. Sorry once again.
  2. My reason for thinking about breeding her is that she has always been very focused and willing to retrieve rabbits live to hand, while dealing neatly and efficiently with rats - she has the raw materials of trainability that I'd like to work with in the future, and I was hoping my next pup would inherit some of her temperament and keenness. I really do value the input of people more experienced than me though, so thanks for raising the question - it may be moot now anyway, as she is showing pain in the leg with the old injury after manipulation by the greyhound vet on friday, and I wouldn't p
  3. Hi, I'm looking to breed my 5 year old 1/4 Bedlington, 3/4 whippet lurcher bitch, who is due to come into season in the next couple of weeks. She has only been lightly worked due to an injury when young followed by a really difficult few years of terminal illnesses and bereavements in our family, but she retrieves rabbits live to hand and dispatches rats efficiently, and is very trainable with a beautiful temperament in the house. She is a small bitch at only 18" tts, and I am looking for a small sire to cover her, ideally some blend of bedlington/collie/whippet (please no or minimal bull
  4. Good news; it's nothing to do with her stifle Bad news; it's something to do with her pelvis and/or hips The symptoms are unusual, so we're going to do on-lead only exercise & anti-inflammatories for a week and take it from there. The greyhound vet was great, thanks to those who recced her .
  5. I'll be getting her to the greyhound vet asap, will make appt first thing tomorrow. Like I say, she has a home for life - she's a sweetheart and I love her to bits, I wouldn't give up any dog I own unless it was the best thing for them - but I can't say I'm not gutted, if what you say is true bigears. I know these things happen, but we've both worked so hard the last year and she's done so well - recall; spot on, stockbreaking; completely exceeded my expectations - steady to sheep, cattle, deer, poultry (she was off lead around my family's poultry no problem, killed a rat when there was a floc
  6. I should have said - she had an accident in the garden, yelped and came in holding her leg. That's when we went to the vet for the first time, when it was obvious she was in bad pain from it. Her parents were good, seasoned working dogs so I'd be surprised, but you never know.
  7. Thanks Skycat, I was hoping you'd show up . Hope I haven't done too much damage over the last few months - I should have been smart and taken her to a greyhound specialist right away, but I guess that's what comes with being a novice. Will try to get someone to see her asap, and keep her on lead with short walks for now
  8. Also, since this post has turned into vet/bone man chat, maybe it should be moved to the health forum?
  9. Thanks again, all. The first vet we went to has experience with pack hounds, but not so much running dogs. I'll definitely go searching for someone with more experience.
  10. Cheers lads. Is the gilmoor greyhound vet any good? And yeah, if someone has a contact for a local bone man, hit me up.
  11. I'd thought about doing that, but don't really have any contacts - maybe someone in the Durham area could pm me? Ta.
