  1. I've always wondered how flies and such can feed on sheep and cattle droppings that have been drenched. Read a research paper that said the biggest issue for grey partridge is loss of suitable habitat and available food sources, surprisingly the didn't lose to many to predators when there was sufficient cover.
  2. Do you think what was responsible for the greys was also responsible for the black grouse declining in numbers?
  3. No mate, just talking theoretically. My pals uncle has a flir though and he says its brilliant. He goes out and night just to see what birds are in the hedges.
  4. Surely there's just as many now if not more. Just French not English.
  5. There's a bit that sells sheet netting, can't mind the name of the spot now. Though tbh I'm wanting to learn how to knit nets. Be a good way to fill the summer in. Did you lads have a cord on the top and weights on the bottom?
  6. .410 is no good as theoretically id want them alive. Plan is to spot them with a thermal then net them.
  7. What size where the nets used back in the day for partridge netting? And what size mesh? Something i know nothing about but always reading about it in books.
  8. Issue with dwc is if you have a power cut its not long before you're in trouble. If you want to go hydro go down the Rock wool cubes on flood and drain tables.
  9. Weed is the new opium. People paying quid round here for a Henry, all because its in a fancy packet and called cali
  10. What you wanting a rabbit? You got a chest freezer to store them?
  11. Seems like a lot of lads are struggling for numbers, surely it'd make sense to leave them alone and focus more on there predators?
  12. I think a lot of the older lads where spoilt when it coming to running dogs in there day. The lurcher and men who keep them have always been viewed with suspicion and heavily fined/ prosecuted. The ban is just bringing back the old ways of anyone who keeps a mongrel running dog is up to no good. And to be honest, I'm glad its like that, just like the good old days.
  13. Yes mate, though looking for a new but at the minute as mine become infertile so culled him. They are easy animals to keep. Make next to no noise and can convert all your kitchen scraps into plant food for the veg garden in 24 hours. Can't understand why more people in this country don't keep rabbits for meat.
  14. I get 50 for my new zealand white does. Giants are fetching 150-200. Madness
  15. 10k doesn't take much getting these days, a mate of mine made 2k last year selling guinea fowl eggs!
  16. How many rabbits would half a lamb or deer get one good sir?
  17. You use an outcross of a similar type from proven stock and then repeat the same process. If you have a couple of lines you will never need fresh blood if you test and cull hard.
  18. Inbreeding highlights a trait be it good or bad, its a good way to really see what's in your dogs.
  19. What are people getting for there rabbits? Getting roughly 5 quid here for them but struggling for the numbers.
