  5. a whippet x greyhound and i might just have that for you am after a bitch? need to finish building kennel yet tho will they take foxes? do you mean could it have taken fox pre ban  Yes, easily catch them and hold them down but not really got the weight behind it to finish it off, thats why we've put a 26" dog over her - hoping to get something a little bit bigger than our bitch with the pup we've kept back. They are full of heart though, loyal and good to train. . Have a friend with a litter of pups but they are bull x's. The fields are pretty small round us

  7. Who'd have put lurcher lads and lasses with 15th century poetry? We're quite a cultured lot really aren't we eh? LOL!
  8. Thanks to all who have replied - really interesting - thanks to this link to the full poem - really enjoyed reading the original - excellent - liked the bit about their development in years 1 to 10 also in poem format!
  9. Hi all, I was in a game fair last year when a lovely old man can up and started petting my dog and having a chat. As he was leaving he said something along the lines of nice dog that "head like a snake, neck like a drake, feet like a cat and tail like a rat" if I heard him properly Has anyone heard of this before? When did the saying first come about, which part of the country did it originate, who started it off? What does the head like a snake and neck like a drake bit mean? Just interested thats all - so no abuse pls!
  10. Dont ask me how - but finally my patience has paid off - just as well - I was about to fling the bloody computer! Pics of the put - the redder coloured one of the two is for sale.
  11. Hi Have been trying since I read your post to get some pics of the pup on here but can't do it - says files are too big and I've no idea how to get them in the right format sorry mate. If you can send me your email address I'll email them to you directly. Sorry about that.
  12. the worst dog i ever saw was a bull cross, but ive had the pleasure to see some realy great bull x's work, rat rabbit, fox, hare, pre ban the other crosses that will do all these are very rare, but they do turn up, bull xs are very common, german shepherd xs and similar xs are not so common And bad bull x's are very, very common.........not knocking bull x's its just the sheer volume of the breed around. They are much much more popular than they used to be. When I had my first lurcher about 7 years ago - you didn't used to see many bull x's about at all. I don't think there is such

  14. thanks whippetmike. Its our bitches first litter - shes 6 - we'll be retiring her in next year or so and we wanted a pup off her before it was too late coz she's been a cracker. As I say we've kept a little bitch back so we're confident they'll make nice dogs. Thanks for the comments. ATB Mate.
  15. Alright mate, To be honest I just want to see him go to a good working home. He's a really lovely pup. The rest of the litter sold for £200 a piece (we needed to cover the C Section costs !!) I'd be happy with something in the region of £ without jabs or £120 with jabs. He's booked in for jabs tomorrow. I've got pics I can send but can't get them up on here for some reason?

  17. We have two lurchers and a jack russel penned up together. Jack Russel is oldest and nailed the lurcher a few times when it was younger, then the lurcher just turned and nailed her back - the problem with the terriers is they never know when they've had enough so keep going back for more. The youngest lurcher never gets involved in the fights at all. The jack russel is 8 now and is happy to admit she's not top dog - we've not had any fights for over 3 years and they get on well, eg jack russel eats when the others have finished etc and generally knows her place. All mine are bitches too.
  18. We have a 23" bitch 1/2greyhound, 7/8th whippet and 1/8th deerhound - she is the best bitch we've ever had and had to travel some 2.5 hours to put a similar type dog with no bull over her recently, had a lovely litter. We also have a bitch with 1/4 bull in her - don't get me wrong - nice dog, does the job but the bitch with no bull outruns her time and time again - she's also 4 years older than her - so it could just be the experience? For us we prefer them with no bull - but suppose its all down to preference. The bull bitch is closest in the pic and the whippet/greyhound is furthest aw
