Hi Lurcherlad, Ive bred only first crosses, but I have witnessed some good three quarter breds working, and as you can see from other replys, they are doing the business. I always found the first crossers to be better, but thats only my findings, the three quarter breds are usually very fast, but so are any three quarter bred, thats what you would expect with so much greyhound in them, but will they last the pace of a hard days coursing or nights lamping? Im sure some will, but some I have seen threw so close to the greyhound they were virtually indistinquishible. I remember judging at AYRE

Hi, no that was with five rounds, had her first eggs on December 30th. Mind first 2 rounds only had a 1 and a 2. Couldnt stop the hen laying, took all the foliage out of the flight, and she built on the floor, transfered eggs under greenies, reared ok, but lost them when they came out of nest, should have hand reared them from there. Had 16 chicks so far from 2 pair, lost the lot. One hen down on eggs again now. Mine rip the flight apart outside the breeding season, once there down, no bother, mind you I add things to take their minds off it. I think they are great birds to observe, I wo

Hi, yes that was on DAVA moor, I have also coursed in Aberdeen, and on the Scottish border meetings with the deerhound club, and many private meeting also on the border moors, but they were both just deerhound days, although I have seen the saluki coursing club on the border moors. Have you been to these two meeting at any time, might have been there at the same time.... Bill

Hi Tommy, yes the ones I was on about were on the moors, they were not against each other, but held on seperate days, on the final day however the winning deerhound was matched against the winning saluki, and till the end of hare coursing the deerhounds were just in front. I totally agree with you on the saluki stamina, it cannot be equaled, the only question is the effort the saluki puts into it running style, its not the same firery style of a greyhound, whippet or proper working deerhound. Hi KYE, Three pups went to the USA from our last litter, Gary Hosker who lived over here and regularly wrote in the sporting press got 2 bitches, I think he lives in florida. He regularly hunts coyote, among other things, sometimes send good pics. He was going to use the deerhounds, but his wife Joi is reaping great benefits in the show ring at the moment, but I do believe he is going to breed some deerhound x greyhounds over there for the job. Hi, like Tommy I would be interested in if this includes all hare coursing activities, as some deerhound and saluki hare coursing was against blue hares. I have witnessed a lot of deerhound coursing and have seen between 30-40 hares killed over a 2 day 32 dog organised stake under NCC rules, on the same ground, I have seen salukis take only a fraction of the tally, so if its an average over the total number of organised events, I would plum for deerhounds...But this is probably a biast guess, due to the fact I do not know the records of other sighthound breeds as well as I do deerhounds.

Hi I have the great pleasure in working close to the Scottish border, in Otterburn. I regularly see crossbills in the area. I have bred British finches for nearly 40 years, and last year obtained a pair, I bred 15 chicks from them and they are lovely, and easy birds to keep. Now I have the chance to observe them in the wild and in captivity, and to make various comparisons. Has anyone else seen these in the wild, or breed them????

Hi everyone, I am from Northumberland in the UK. I have kept working lurchers for nearly 30 years, and Scottish deerhounds since 1990. I am also interested in all aspects of wildlife and countrysports and pastimes. Had a quick look in the chat room last night, it was fast and furious, but some great crack going on....
