  1. This is a pure Scottish deerhound jumping, where I live, no jumpin, no hares
  2. Some excellen pictures there matie been involved with hunting for over 35 years and have never seen anything like that rabbit riding episode....and to catch it on camera, well done and chhers for allowing us to see them
  3. Sure she will I have 28-29 inch pure bred deerhound bitches that took ferreted rabbits easlily, double figures all the time,
  4. Hi mbf. good to hear you have been able to get out with all this snow about. Good ratio there matie ferreting rabbits can be quite productive, I have had some really good numbers ferreting/dogging, and all my lurchers/first-crossers/deerhounds have taken to it no bother. None of mine have been too much trouble with ferrets, seem to know they are part of the team..
  5. hI SALCLALIN, When you say young, how old is she, and what is the breeding, both look in really good knick
  6. Some size dog there, the pick on deerhound crosses brigade will have a field day with this, or is it just with deerhound crosses that they see size being a fault. My pure bred deerhound bitches are around 76lb when fit, but, so long as its doing the job for you thats all that matters.
  7. If lurcher lads got their heads together, there are loopholes in the law to exploit, I watched a fox hunt in Northumberland at the begining of the week, I hear that hare coursing with deerhounds is continuing, 'stiff ones' will continue for those individuals who think they can still do what they want Im affraid
  8. My lamp. or should I say my battery packed up on me one night, I had a torch in my car, one of those big red ones with a handle on top, that take two large square batteries with the curly terminals...I caught another 17 rabbits using this...sure rabbits dont know what they are being lamped, does the make of lamp really matter????
  9. Im old fashioned in this respect, always make my own, never bought a lamp in my life 12ah lasts me all night
  10. Hey Misty, was that you with the fancy camera, wish I had know would have come over for a bit crack did you catch the judge getting bit
  11. Hey Mik, thats some length that dog of yours, was the show the Fife and Kinross, I was going to go to that, were you at Moffat the other week. Dosny look shy to me, very alert
  12. You think lurcher shows are bad, you should try showing at Kennel Club shows. Yes it can happen that some shows are fixed, and its a real downer when it happens, I hate it :realmad: :realmad: people are now travelling vast distances to show lurchers, terriers and even ferrets, everyone deserves a fair crack of the whip, Ive judged over 30 lurcher shows over a 20 year period, if I have any failings being a cheat is not one of them
  13. TAKE IT FROM OLD ROMANY, THATS A NICE DOG MATIE, A REAL TOPPER,
  14. Hi Broomer, welcome Whats a cind
  15. If you are after a good working deerhound, I would definately go for one from a noted working line, the show ones have been getting bigger and bigger for the last decade, with the ban the Deerhound Club has curtailed all organised coursing events, and not a lot of owners work their animals on rabbits. A lot of show animals also have their hunting instincts practically bred out of them. Ive seen proper working deerhounds take 20 plus rabbits in one night, kill 14 blue hares in one day, take brown hare, and fox, well, ALL proper deerhounds hate fox, also, witnessed a deerhound bitch winning it
  16. Best Ive seen, between 23-25 but have to be the right cross
  17. Dont forget lads, there are two types of mange in dogs, the most common, sarcoptic mange (scabies in humans) is treated very efectively with BENZOYL BENZOATE, its cheap, and if you keep birds, especially crossbills, it treats scaly legs. It is safer than duramitex, and definately safer than ivamec
  18. No Tomo, But I also prefer the DUFFUS type, had doublers loads of times in these...
  19. I was a semi-proffessional mole catcher on the Scottish borders for years, both traps and poison, tell you what, its a great way to obtain permission to work your dogs, I got loads of land through it.
  20. One of the best close ups of a hare Ive seen, well done
  21. DIDNT KNOW THE ARABS HAD COLLIE CROSSES, OOPS SORRY, THOUGH FOR ONE MINUTE THIS THREAD WAS ABOUT COLLIES
  22. When I was doing mole control a few years back, a farmer ensured me there was an albino hare, although I never saw it myself the landowner always got very enthusiastic about it, but apart from this, Ive never seen one myself.
