  1. Goodun Steveo so thats the reason you dont see any up the arse of a hare.....
  2. The expectations of breeding together 2 merles is; 50% merle pups 25% black 25% white, the white pups produced will be BOTH deaf and blind
  3. I worked whippets in the 60`s, not too good for hares, my father ran whippets when they were 14lb in weight and no good what so ever for hares, modern whippets will never be a 100 hare in their carear type dog, like a previous post said, 'get a saluki lurcher for the fens', and a deerhound lurcher for everywhere else, but you will get some great sport from whippets on hares. if not numbers
  4. Yip, theyre sure making hard work of them
  5. St Bernard for me...I do tend to dribble, especially when theres a bitch in heat
  6. Hi NANDO, I controlled moles in Northumberland for many years, mostly around Otterburn and Elson, got most of my permission for working my dogs through this , I know some lads in the Hexham area if that helps, pm me if you need their names or any gen
  7. If my memory serves me right, Bill Doherty hasnt bred a first cross deerhound/greyhound since 2001, or do you mean its been bred off one of his deerhounds
  8. EXACTLY matie, lurcher x lurcher knock the spots off any first crosser as alrounders, always have, always will, every record where I live is owned by bitzas
  9. Yip early seventies for me too, and guess what, a car battery too...But after a very short while I dumped it in a ditch on Lord Ridleys land, probably still there
  10. Seen hares swiming to try and avoid chasing dogs
  11. Now thats what I call MINT PUPS there matie
  12. Rabbits for me, day and night as it has always been, everything else are added extras, my dogs took anything so rabbits may not have been their first choice I get the same excitement walking on to a squatting bunny as I do see-ing a dog pull a deer down or crush a fox, I just love being out with running dogs
  13. One of the best matings that can yield consistantly good results, is half brother half sister..seen some great dog, cage birds, pigeons from this mating. But, I had a pure bred deerhound dog that jumped a 6Ft 6in batton fence to get to his sister in season, 3 of the pups were exported to the USA, 2 to Gary Hosker, one has become and American champion, and another from the same litter, owned by another person, needs only a few more points to do the same Line breeding isnt just the putting together 2 related dogs...Not that easy Im afraid, loads of other things are required, including the be

BORAX mate, you can cure a whole fox mask with borax, and its safe too. Get it from most chemists. Dont need any fancy stuff,
  16. Certainly looks like the words to the rest of us matie
  17. YIP, keep clear of vets as much as possible well their bills that is, sold a deerhound pup to a local vet years ago, one of the best bloody things Ive done..Got all my jabs and worm balls off him for nowt for years, anti-biotics too until my mates in Ireland kept me stocked, and all my sulpha drugs for me birds. Ive took hundreds of dew claws off over the decades, for lads all over Northumberland, never had one grow back in, or, had a pup that had an infection from them, bitches tongue works wonders. Cheers for the rest of the info matie, all great stuff Just highlighted the ointments as
  18. Dont need anything on them mate, bitch will lick them clean when she smells the blood, will be scabbed over in days, and you wont be able to see where they have been in weeks, stay away from germaline and those types of things, epsom salts is as good as out..Dont forget the bitch will still lick with ointments on, and these can go through to the milk, even in small quantities.
  19. A deerhound breeder pics a deerhound x to win , was it worth anyone without a deerhound x turning up , did the judge breed the winner, With this sort of shit coming on this site when a judge has done his best, and fairly, dont think you will get many offers, unless the taffs are not as critical as the jocks
  20. Hi I was chairman of the Northumberland & Durham Working Lurcher Club, we organised some of the best shows in the north of England, 2 per year for our club, and we were also asked by other clubs to organise theirs. We always had 2 judges for the lurchers and terriers, Thought the days of having only one judge were over, it can work on smaller shows, but we were obtaining very large classes, best to split them up a bit if possible. imo
  21. Nikon D200, if you have plenty to burn, or Fuji S2 or S3, these are cheaper, but slow to auto-focus, but you can get around this for action dog shots
  22. I take them off ALL my lurchers, at 4-5 days, have seen dogs be off the raod for longs spells with injuries to dew claws, and some heafty vets bills to get them off later in life. But get someone who knows the crack to get them off, if you dont get far enough down they will come back in, at various shaps and angles, these will cause more bother than the original ones.
  23. Hi jacob, I have sent you a PM matie
  24. Trentdale lines..would have expected a deerhound from this breding to be bigger than 25 inches at that age, a lot of Kilbourne in that stuff, BIG deerhounds, usually..they will play about at that age, youngsters a long time deerhounds, but, every deerhound Ive had killed before 12 months.
  25. Thats the way matie, often heard people saying, when in doubt go back to the greyhound, but if you have no doubts about what your dogs can do, then why bother, hope your pup grows to be able to do everything you want it to do, I have no boubts it will
