  1. Pure bred whippets have excellent temperaments, and if big numbers are not your thing, these should suit you, most lurchers with deerhound in them also have excellent temperaments, but Ive seen a lot of collie crosses, especially the first cross being shy biters with kids
  2. I know of a litter of three quarter breds, but, its a first cross bitch put back to a deerhound male, if your interested. Born last week, dogs and bitches. From working strain
  3. The show salukis are going down the same road as the show deerhounds, but probably not as bad But, it will happen. Show folk breed for exaggerated points, ear carridge etc, and will forget what the 'Noble one' was bred for in the first place. People in the deerhound show world are even trying to change the orginal breed standard for this dog, to suit their big, lazy cart horses, and mark my words it is/will happen with the salukis. Ive coursed in the highlands on days when deerhounds and salukis were both there to do the business, and also on the borders when the Saluki club ran their dogs
  4. Hi Tote, Ive sent you a pm matie
  5. same for me, if we are only talking about first crossers
  6. Never had a three quater bred, but seen some on, most had thrown more to the deerhound, and feet were good, the ones that have thrown more to the greyhound did have long lookin nails, and a little more problematic. Ive had 2 first crossers over the years, both had excellent feet. Might just be the amount of greyhound in them, youve worked deerhounds, so you will have experienced they suffer very little in the way of foot troubles.
  7. Clip on another thread is on brown in Lincolnshire, on with some more, but need to keep some for my own web sie matie
  8. Eye, but dnt forget I knew Dicky (Old Sankey) and his grandad too
  9. Hi, have adjusted it a bit, its working for me, please ive i a try
  10. I feed rabbits whole, skin on and gutted. Rabbits and hares are some of the best and most natural sources of protein for dogs. Bones can be a problem if the rabbit is cooked, but why would anyone want to cook a rabbit for a lurcher
  11. Busy converting from vid and tape to disc, only have some deerhound coursing at the moment, but will get some other stuff sorted
  12. No nowt to do with me Im affraid, belonged to a mate I travel with, its out of Paul Harrigans Meg, and young Sankies Blue, and I think Meg was out of Sankies Jodie, but I will check with Harrigan on that..That course was up here in Northumberland..
  13. Cheers maties, found some old vids, Ive been trying to get them onto computer, and I wasn sure if they were going to work or not champion
  14. Deerhound x greyhounds do usually do well on foxes, completely inialte them, and, they have the strength to do many in one night, and more than just one night a week. My pure bred deerhounds slay foxes, break their backs at times, and carry them back to the vehicle. As for rabbits, I am not a lover of any first cross, but I have owned a couple of deerhound x greyhounds, and worked with every other first cross, Ive NEVER seen a tall dog, as some dxg`s can be, not be able to get down to rabbits, as I have said earlier, I have seen many of these get into 30`s and I have had pure bred deerhounds
  15. Iv seen that dog too on Lurchermania, a very good dog on the bunnys from what ive seen Amazing, as his very tall. Yes he was 30 inches, but very racey,
  16. Great stuff, especially if they are interested and keen. One of my mates, dead now god rest his soul, used to practically drag his son out, the lad just didnt want to be there,,,but when younguns come out with things like, I would love to go out with you, they are half way there. Keep him interested matie, well done I always start mind off early
  17. Hi mate, get in touch with furryferter on here, he has dogs from David Platts, and does a lot with them, he will be able to give you more info on this mans dogs. Surprised about one of these not being keen on foxes, deerhound x greyhounds usually do well on them, mine inialted them, and had some great nights on rabbits, have a look at the lurchermania films, a dog called Axel, Ive been out with that dog and seen his take 30 plus rabbits on one night, even though the lad kept him mostly for hares and fox.
  18. For anyone who drives a car this will be very expensive. If you drive a car, please read - Sarah Kennedy was talking about this proposed car tax scheme on Radio 2. Apparently there is only one month left to register your objection to the 'Pay As You Go' road tax. The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at the time of Sarah's comments only 250,000 people had signed it and 750,000 signatures are required for the goverment to at least take any notice. Once you've given your details (you don't have to give
  19. My best all-rounder was a twenty three and a half inch, 45lb in weight black bitch Bes, a lurcher x lurcher bred down from deerhound crosses, my best rabbiter was her great grand daughter, Yella, another twenty three and a half inch black bitch.
  20. Depends, Ive seen one of my best bitches get 1 rabbit out of the first 10 raced, wondered what the hell was going on, then she killed the next ten she raced, a hell of a lot depends on where your racing them, the ground, the weather conditions, the man with the light, and of course, the dog
  21. Ive always been a profit hunter mate, big number are my particular kink, but have had many nights where it didnt quite come off, but, enjoyed every second of them. Ive walked miles for a rabbit, but at least you were out, and honest about what you got.
