  1. I take it thats not a reacent pic mate Nope, bit earlier this year,
  2. I like both, but your right about the adrenaline rush. I certainly wouldnt get enough sport without what lamping to give, nor would my dogs, but, its up to the person, if its not in them, maybe best sticking to one for the pot
  3. No matie..it was a Hillman Avenger..Still got it Hi Doxey, was the Hillman Avenger running then or was it just propping the fence up?Is that why you've still got it? Goodun mate Just joking about still having it..upgraded these days, BMW No bloody use for the dogs though, but it has its advantages, its like driving in a womb
  4. He even wanted to dance with my camera Cheers for the comments
  5. Didnt know you were so close to me Moll, yes I know the guy, a social climber that licked more bottoms of big names in the show deerhound circles than my stud dog Lewis licked bitches in heat..He was into Rottis at first, till he and others like him spoilt that breed too, the money dropped out so he moved on to deerhounds..No coursing crack there with him then, but I bet he tells you some good show yarns.. And, what he knows about deerhounds by the way you could write on a postage stamp, you can show him this post if you want But apart from that, I suppose hes a canny lad. Im taking out
  6. the reason most people go lamping is ,there dogs cannot catch anything in the day. Should do both, its great
  7. I served my time long netting, with some of the best long netters in Northumberland. My dad took me out at night for the first time when I was 5, we used to get to awkward lamping spots in late afternoon, and bed down and wait for the dark..No dogs allowed, just the cord, as it was numbers these guys were after..and we certainly got some good bags. Lamping with dogs will get more rabbits than the best of the best long netters..Ive never had the numbers Ive had lamping with dogs when Ive been long netting (sorry about talking about numbers for those who dont like numbers, but people arnt goin
  8. Dont know about being easier, there is certainly more stuff to race..but there were dogs up here that found it difficult to kill a hare on the lamp, but went down the fens and killed 3`s, 4`s and 5`s in the daylight.. There are things easier, or just as easy as lamping, ferreting, now any dog can catch rabbits bolted into open ground, and corn cuttings, we used to go to corn cuttings for hares before lamping came in, and dogs were brought out of retirement just for this, dogs that I doubt would be able to kill a hare in any other hunting form. I lamp cos I absolutely love it, Ive done everyt
  9. No matie..it was a Hillman Avenger..Still got it
  10. That was a long time ago you know.. http://www.doxhopedeerhounds.co.uk/doxhistory.htm
  11. for a minute i thought he might be joking, but as soon as the pic came up,i relaxed a bit, thought he was trying to wind us up before ,then when i could see the fence behind him,i knew everyone would be happy and that he was a bonafide genuine hunter/fence erector, just wondering if i should just have the back garden done first, before the front, what does everyone think?By the way Doxhope, the expression is cool man, what were you thinking to achieve that look? Higgins. Cheeky fecker...the wife just did the garden the day before Was just trying to copy the rough haired bitches expression
  12. No Mol, sorry, no tash..But for you I would grow one by Thursday I call that my 'ugly duckling period' Just never got into the 'swan' period
  13. WANNA SEE A GOOD HAIR CUT? Those were the day ehhh...and honest, the bitches I used to line..Ha, Ha, Ha
  14. Hey thats a bit harsh.. I was considered to have quite an errection, people talked about that fence for years, buses and taxis changed their routes to see that masterpiece Pleased someone noticed me poaching wagon in the back ground
  15. Cheers Joe, I think it works with bull too. seen one or two decent dogs with just a touch of bull in..never owned one though
  16. Hey Joe, your bitza with a bit of deerhound in it was probably a better all rounder than the half or three quarter cross..depends what the rest of it was of course..Ive had a few bitzas (god I hate that name) all from deerhound crosses, with a touch of collie and these were rakers..I dont like collie first crosses as a rule, but have seen some very good d/g x c/g`s and dogs bred from these..I would only compare half crosses or three qharter breds against other half breds or three quarter breds, further matings to these does, I believe, give a greater diversity in the pups..and these usually k
  17. That can be the case with most three quarter breds, of any type, Ive seen three quarter bred dxg`s thrown so much to the greyhound, one that got third fastest time at a time trial for greyhounds, others, Ive seen throw to the deerhound so much they were practically indistinguisable from pure bred deerhounds. Ive ran 2 half crosses in my time, and these had great noses, my pure breds all had good noses, and they lurchers that I used for decades were all from a deerhound base line, and, had great noses.. Dont forget, pure deerhound had alsorts put into them in their distant past, including col
  18. Ive had pheasants, partridges and red grouse with some of mine, and also a skylark and wor lasses budgerigar I got to go coursing years ago with Ted Walsh and a landowner beside the Scottish border. The landowner was into game banties, one of my dogs jumped out the car and first thing it did was kill a banty cock
  19. Has to be worker hasnt it?, as long as the so called ugliness dosnt reach into structural faults... Yes, whats the point of having a well put together show lurcher if it cant catch, but, whats the point of having an ugly dog thats a great worker, that is injured all the time. Aesthetics are in some cases part of function But as its been said above, the best option probably would be a great looking dog thats mint in the field..Anybody got one???
  20. I would have been tricked with this picture and this birds colour, but, its one of my mealy`s, cinnamon carrier cock
  21. 23-26 My vote, cos all the best dogs Ive had were within this size...More towards the lower end though
