  1. I lamp my 2 off the slip I find it increases the bond and understanding you have with the dog it makes you much more of a team, of course it takes time and graft to get a dog obedient running off the slip you cant just do it on the first outing, I like to get a dog running the beam well from a slip first, then what I do is give it some runs off the slip towards the end of the night when the edge is off the dog, a tired dog is always a more obedient one. Then on each subsequent outing, I just start letting them run off the slip earlier and earlier until eventually its dispensed with alltogether
  2. well done, great to see pics of different quarry from other countries, you guys are so lucky!
  3. imagine the guilt the other person must be feeling, whether they tried to help or froze with fear, either way someone has died and the memory of thats going to stay with them the rest of their life

  9. very interesting read that mate cheers for sharing, as someone whos hunted one area over a long period of time and built up observations on the population, how do you think rabbit numbers compare over the years to the present day? do you think they will start to come back again in these "cycles" or do you think the numbers have dropped to an all time low?
  10. it does happen with chips too, sadly. in some thin skinned breeds the chip can be felt between the shoulder blades and since its close to the skin surface it could be removed. were talking about evil people here who dont really care about dogs, the fact they can steal part of another persons family, an animal they have put a lot of time into, shows they just see a dog as being like an inanimate object, something to be stolen, traded, sold, or dumped if it doesnt suit their needs
  11. http://www.dog-register.co.uk/ or you can buy a kit and tatoo your own dogs ears. Theives do sometimes cut ears off etc but if you have your dog microchipped as well at least you have double the chance of being reunited with your dog. Put it this way, I would rather get my dog back minus its ears than not get it back at all. The ear cutting off thing tends to happen most when people kill or dispose of unwanted ex racing greyhounds. They remove the ears to try and remove any traceability back to them as the owner/trainer etc
  12. I think theres crossed wires here shanded because hern doesnt throw out pups to sell to people with any tag on them he breeds for himself and close friends for the lines to carry on and the dogs to get grafted and also culled if they dont make the grade. He was kind enough to offer me one of his pups a while back and I will never forget that kindness. He is one of the genuine ones as far as Im concerned With regard to the 2 blue dogs the pup and adult having similar faces, I would say they do , but in the grand scheme of things does it really matter? the only thing that matters is that
  13. Well all I can say is they sound like sound lads to me, they stopped and helped you when they could easily have kept on driving so whats a few bunnies between friends?
  14. when the moon came up earlier tonight it was stunning it had that shimmering glow round it that you get when the temperatures are really low
  15. Cabin Fever Its getting to everyone who works dogs/shoots/hunts etc and cant get out as much as they normally would. But attacking each other over the forums when we should all be standing together and being supportive isnt going to help were all in the same boat here. Bring on the thaw it cant come quick enough for me. Allthough some are saying February
  16. This can happen, ive got a couple like that too, but all good rescue centres, vets etc should scan the whole dog and not just the neck area
  17. cracking pic keeps, its hard to get good shots of eclipses so well done @ Lurchergirl
  18. Yes you can put other info on the chip records such as tattoo, neutered, special markings scars etc, well I know you can with Petlog, am sure other chip companies are the same
  19. shame you dont live nearer c/g I would be happy to tattoo your dogs for you for free tattoos take best when done in puppy hood, the dots stretch as the ear grows and the tattoo is larger and more easily read. But in dark skinned or dark coloured dogs it can be hard to see, same with dogs with hairy ears, so tattoo and chip together is the best choice
  20. Amen to that Really like that Maurice dog
  21. all dogs in the uk should be chipped its an excellent scheme, its by no means faultless but if everyone had to have their dogs chipped by law it would make traceability of lost/stolen dogs much easier and free up spaces in dog rescues and pounds as dogs would be reunited with their owners more quickly and also people might think twice about dumping a dog they no longer want if its traceable back to them and they are accountable for it.
