    Just wondering if there were any legal restrictions on how early you could start shooting in the morning? The fields i'm going to be on are quite remote but there are a few houses around. Also as this will be my first outing on the pigeons, is starting too early (sunrise) pointless or should I wait til mid morning? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    I work a small springer bitch and a beddy whippet - once they're in sync with eachother you won't want or need anything else mate!

    why not put your nets out before it gets dark and they are out the borrows????? We are gonna give it a go on Monday night. Just thought it would be a bit easier and more successful with a drop longnet. See what monday brings.

    watch what you say on here mate it is illegal to trap a wild rabbit and release it somewhere else But every gundog trainer I know or have looked at their website have rabbit pens with wild rabbits (because they bolt better)and they won't be being released well apart from the rabbit pen i suppose. I don't want to be getting into anything illegal so forget the post. I'll have to look into the legal side of this before I do anything!!! Meant to say flush better not bolt better!

    A friend of my fathers has a small gundog training business and has recently extended his rabbit pen from 2 acres to 5. He therefore needs more rabbits for it. I used to ferret a few rabbits for the pen but just don't have the time anymore plus won't be able to get the numbers he needs now he has the bigger pen. Would anyone be able to supply a steady number of rabbits for the rest of the season? We're not talking loads just 4-6 every 2 to 3 weeks or so. The reason he needs a regular supply is because he shoots over some of the more experienced dogs and some dogs do peg the odd rabbit so

    Would anyone be interested in helping me clear some rabbits off of a field in Gloucester? The only thing is that you will need to own a pre-set drop long net. I tried it last night with a quick set long net but the rabbits are soo wary that they were gone before the net was put all the way out. I'm new to this longnetting game so someone with a bit of experience would be ideal too! Reply or ideally PM me if your interested and we will sort something out. P.S the guy who owns the land is a bit worried about who comes onto his land so unfortunately you won't be able to bring along any

    I have a young Beddy/Whippet cross that is learning from my mates 4 year old saluki x. His bitch is a really good lamping dog with a great attitude. Hasn't minded my dog running alongside her and isn't protective over the catch either. We'd be well up for coming out with you and I'm sure your boy would pick up a few tips. I live in Bristol but have my own transport so it won't be a problem getting to you. PM me if your interested mate and we can have a chat before anythings arranged.

    I got my first Beddy Whippet this summer mate and she's my first running dog so don't have much experience or info to pass on yet. From speaking to other guys on here they are apparently cracking little dogs especially the 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddy. Excellent for rabbits and still fast and game enough for the occasionnal hare. i do know someone who had one and used it for foxes as well but with mine being only 8 months I can't see that potential yet, but as she grows and matures you never know!!! 2nd to none on acceleration - thats why they're excellent rabbiting dogs, especially for ferreting

    Just make sure you get one of them done if you don't want any pups. At 6 months the dog will be ready and willing....

    I'd get her a companion mate. Dogs are naturally pack animals as I'm sure you're aware so she would relish the companionship of another dog. I got a 8 month old beddy whippet myself back in July as company for my spaniel. They get on like a house on fire and never leave eachothers side now. It's also nice seeing them play when out on walks - I think it will open up a whole new world for your currnet dog and will put your mind at rest when your at work or out etc.. knowing that your dog has company and is not bored and lonely on its own. It takes no more effort having 2 especially if they

    That clears things up for you then??? lol. I'd personally go for bitches. My two get on like a house on fire but when I had two dogs before they use to fight every now and then. Pretty nastily too, even tho they were both done. I'd go for bitches everytime now mate.

    More good ideas, cheers mate, I should have joined earlier! And am i better off training in my (small) garden or out in the open? Start in the garden mate and only move to the open when it's working perfectly there. The only problem with using treats like some of the guys have mentioned is that the dog could drop whatever is in its mouth for the treat. Its a natural reaction.
