  1. Is that her retrieving a crow or rook? [bANNED TEXT] book did you read that in as that's a big no no in my book!
  2. Good idea on paper but can't see it working - too open to abuse and like some have said already, would have to get this cleared with land owner which I just can't see happening! Not if they're anything like the owners round my way. lol.
  3. Why don't these offers come up in the West Country!!!!!!!
  4. Yeah I'd never feed a dog before a days work. If he's fit enough he should be able to manage a day picking up without lagging at the end of the day. Like wyeman said stomach torsion is a very real danger and could even be fatal. Keep to the evening meal pal, he should be fine! Mine alway are.
  5. Yeah I was out. Decided to go out just me and the dog (not with my usual lamping partner) so I could pick her runs and give her a confidence boost (start of the season was a bit disappointing) and she done me proud. Ran excellently, her strike was awesome and she bagged 9 rabbits out of 12 runs. Well happy. Got to work nights now for a month so when I'm back out lamping in Nov all the fields should be planted and it will be game on. Last night was an excellent confidence boost for me and the dog! Happy days
  6. I'm also putting this in the Buy/Sell section. Basically I'm after 1 or 2 ferrets that will be ready to start this season. I wasn't expecting to do any ferreting this season but have just acquired some permission that is idea for ferreting. Hobs or jills. Doesn't need to be a proven worker, but something from working stock would be good. PM me if you can help me out with this. Cheers Steve

  8. If you can afford them, then the quick set longnets are the ones to go for. Think I paid £250 for 2x50yd. Can get them pretty much anywhere on the internet.
  9. Thanks for the help guys. And a special thank you to Skycat for her help. Steve
  10. Birddog - do you have a link to that thread you mention or even the title of it - can't seem to find it anywhere and would like a read.
  11. Cheers Penny, The moon was coming and going but we were forecast wind & rain (which never really came) so I thought I'd get out and give it a go. The fields were a bit on the light side but think thats always going to be the case in this particular spot due to light pollution from surrounding buildings. I'll give her the benefit of doubt then this time. But should her success rate be affected? I still had a few far out quatters that should be bread and butter for her but they all seemed to get the upper hand on her.
  12. Took my beddy/whippet out last night for a shine and it was very disappointing . Her success rate was right down and only mangaged 4 rabbits out of 15 runs, normally she hits a good 50% plus. She also hunted up alot after the lamp was switched off, which she never normally does. She's normally straight back to me within seconds. She is in season so I was wondering if this had anything to do with her being out of character? And should I leave her next outing until she is over her season? Does anyone run their bitch in season? And if so do they act any differently? Cheers Steve
  13. Thought this was ideal weather for getting out with the dogs?????
  14. Thanks for the comments guys, i'm gonna give it a go tonight as the rain seems to be easing but the winds still there!
  15. This is coming from a novice lamper (and on who doen't believe everything my mate tells me) Just wondering if the weather that is being forecast for the South of the country tonight could be too bad for a good nights lamping. I know wind and rain is the ideal conditions but can the rain be too heavy. Got an hours travel to my permission so I don't want a wasted journey. What you guys think? You gonna be out tonight in the South West? Cheers Steve
  16. Try putting an ad on gunsonpegs under the classified section, worked for me.
  17. Use a longnet and then the dog can catch all the bolters!!!
  18. David Lissett - complete guide - think it's about 4 dvd's worth and covers everything your gonna need to have a complete spaniel for the field.
  19. I try to turn up in the work van (so they know you've got a job and not just some lazy scumbag), and then I normally say that "I've been working down the road and noticed a fair few rabbits about in the fields near your house/stables and I was wondering if they are causing you a problem? If so could I please have some rabbiting permission? Just be polite and dress smart - remember first impressions!! Good luck.
  20. If you don't get any luck on here, try 'gunsonpegs' website and put a message under classified section. Worked for me - got myself some picking up on a duck shoot Sept/Oct and then beating for the pheasant season. Good luck.
