  1. Cheers salukixgrey - I've think I've got something sorted now, gonna have to travel to Swindon but hopefully it'll be worth it.
  2. Could anyone suggest a decent Bone man in the Southwest. I live in Bristol so the nearer the better but I'm happy to travel a reasonable distance. Or am I just better off looking up Greyhound Kennels and calling them direct, and ask who they use/suggest.

  4. I got a 1 black&white bitch pup left out of my litter. Only 2 weeks old so won't be ready for another 6 weeks. Docked, due clawed, KC registered, microchipped, both working parents. £450. PM if interested.
  5. Cheers guys, managed to get it sorted thanks. Black rock vets in burn ham on sea did it.
  6. I know how u feel mate, put a pic up of a dog and you'll get a hundred 'nice dog mate' but ask a question that takes more than 2 brain cells to answer and you won't hear anything.
  7. Hi guys, Where can I get a decent, preferably table top mounted, heat lamp? What sort of stores sell them? Or am I better off going to a local farm/country shop? I live in Bristol if anyone has any local knowledge. Cheers. Steve.
  8. Hi guys, Does anyone know of any vets in or around Bristol that dock tails? I had a vet called mike shepherd lined up but he's gone into hospital & I have a litter due next week. I know all the rules about working homes etc.. Just need to find someone who is willing to do it. On a second note does anyone know where I can get a decent, preferably table top mounted, heat lamp? Cheers in advance. Steve
  9. Anywhere round Bristol that's any good is so on top it's not worth it. That's why I av to travel 40+ mile for my lamping. If your thinking of going up round the airport wear your running boots not your welly boots. Lol.
  10. Just got to keeping trying until you get a result mate. There's no easy way. You'll find someone who needs it doing who hasn't already got someone in.
  11. Nice looking animal mate. Be warned she might jack on rabbits on the lamp in her 3rd season like every other collie x'.
  12. She normally comes into season jan/feb time so pup will be ready around the end of may. There's nothing wrong with getting some advice from people at a gundog club but do it before you get the pup so your ready to go when it arrives. As training should start from day 1 in one form or another. Do as much research as you can and you shouldn't go far wrong especially seeing your not looking to trial the dog. PS My springer is very small, probably the size of a cocker. PM me your email address and i could send you some pics.
  13. I'm getting her spayed at the end of the rabbiting season anyway. As i have no intention to mate her and have enough problems with hormones around the house with the unspayed spaniel, the missus and the 2 daughters!!!!
  14. If you can wait until next year you can have a pup out of my stock and a copy of david lisett dvd. You can tell if the dogs from good stock from the pedigree history. They can't lie about that. Also if your on the shooting seen check out the dog and bitch if possible before the mating. Will give you a good idea what the pups are going to be like.
  15. Thanks for the replys guys. I think I'm still gonna get her checked out by the vet again for my own piece of mind but I'm more confident now that it is due to her being a post season whippet x. She is just so different in comparison to the spaniel and so different to how she was, that I can't help thinking something might be wrong, and I wouldn't want to leave her this way if its something simple and can be sorted easily. Thanks again for the advice. A bit of a weight off my mind.
  16. I personally think its down to a dogs instinct withdeer and fox (pre-ban) ive seen dogs leave a rabbit and go on to deer. I think its because deer represent a good investment in energy used compared to what energy they get back from the kill who knows ? As for fox i think dogs are keen on them for the same reason wild wolves kill coyotes and leave them. Does the dog run after the rabbit if it jumps ? Would a well feed dog really consider this? I would think a lurchers instint has been tuned to chase anything that moves, no matter how big or small. If this was the case it would aff
  17. Hi All, Just looking for a few opinions before I take my lurcher to the vets. I have a 2yr old Beddy/Whippet who use to be very energetic and playful in her first year until her first season at 1yr. After this i noticed a real difference in her. She became very lethargic and uninterested in pretty much anything from walks to playing with other dogs and my other dog. She went from running about with my spaniel to following behind me, head down, tail down and a real lack of any kind of enthusiam for life. When at home she will just sleep and if she does move she looks like a 14 yr old dog
  18. Very confusing! I have a strange situation with my lurcher (beddyxwhippet). I've only ever put her on rabbits and she's as keen as mustard. Runs her heart out everytime. But away from that in normal day to day life she is the most withdrawn dog I've ever known. She's only 2 but walks round the place (when she can be bothered to wake up) like a 14 yr old. Appearing all stiff and uninterested in anything, including walks. But get her out on the lamp or something kicks up in front of her and she goes mad for it. After reading some of the posts on this topic, think I might get her checked ou
  19. She looks very fit. Why are dogs more keen on fox and deer once they have a taste from them? Is it because they're easier to catch as from my experience they're harder to catch, especially foxs. If the dogs running half hearted and only running rabbits it knows it can catch, why doesn't it do the same with the bigger stuff?
  20. Get a Pup and a DVD. I highly recommend David Lisett complete Gundog training. 4 DVD's worth and takes you from Puppy (even choosing a puppy) right through to the finished article, a fully trained gundog for the field or trail.
  21. Forgot to say - nice strong looking bitch that and good to see the young un out in the field and not in front of the x box - unlike most kids his age i imagine!
  22. Can easily ruin a good picking up dog on crows and rooks. These birds have a tendancy to fight back and peck a dog it not stone cold dead. If the dog gets hurt it can become hard mouthed and assume everything it goes to pick up is going to have a 'go back' and will crush (and if you're really unlucky shake) what it picks. Hard to stop this once it happens so avoidance is better than cure. If you don't believe me you go and pick up a pricked crow next time - without a pair of gloves.
