You know, I always used to think the same, that a springer won't shoot well with a bi-pod, and until recently I had never bothered to try it. But a few days ago I did, using an adjustable 3-section, lightweight, bi-pod,that can be used for standing, sitting or kneeling shots (and maybe prone too - if you're a bit of a contortionist). The results were really pretty good: accurate enough for a hunter aiming to put his pellets inside a 1 inch kill zone at 35 yards. It will be very interesting to hear how others have got on shooting a springer of a Harris type bi-pod or off the "shooting sticks

I take it as read that you, like me, admire good marksmanship and a humane, disciplined, one-shot-kill approach to pest control with an air rifle or firearm. We are fortunate to know Si and others through this forum who go the extra mile to put this 'philosophy' into practice and their videos testify to this. (I have ordered the first three and I'm saving up for No. 4!) LOL But, to continue with this post, I was following up some leads on You-Tube concerning the Russian-made Edgun Matador pcp, a pocket battleship if ever there was one This is when I stumbled across "Ed Gun's" shooting and

full factory vmach DIANA 34 CPC WITH PAPERWORK
Manco replied to gold star's topic in Gun's and Rifle's
Please PM me with pics and details of what Venom work was done to it. What calibre is it? Cheers, Chris -
I had just finished zeroing my Career 707 Carbine when 'the boss' told me to bring my gun round to the back yard. A small rat had been raiding some bin bags we were about to put out for rubbish collection. I stood in our back doorway elevated above it and bided my time. Whiskers, then a nose appeared but quickly disappeared out of sight. Then its tail appeared briefly before vanishing again. Then it emerged into the open less than 7 yards away. With my scope on x 3 mag I put the cross about an inch and a half above its head and pressed the trigger. It was goodnight Vienna for Ratty!

SAK Compact Moderator - anyone have one?
Manco replied to Manco's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Si, Thanks for your feedback on the SAK. The Twink would be my choice for an airgun only, but for rim-fire use as well I want a moderator that is strip-able for occasional cleaning, and is compact. (The Parker Hale is OK but IMO a bit too long.) I will try for an SAK; if anyone knows where to get one that would be great. Chris -
I've been doing some Google research re sound moderators for air rifles. I want one that will cope with sub 12 fpe, FAC power, and can also do the job on a .22 rim-fire rifle. I have just serviced my .177 Career 707 Mk.2 Carbine which shoots heavyweight Accupells very well when tuned at around 22fpe. But without a silencer, the muzzle report is a blast... I have short listed the SAK Compact Moderator which is described as suitable for air guns and rim-fires. Has anyone any experience of the SAK - if so I would appreciate hearing your views? Also, it would be useful to know some gun shop

"There should only be two of you present when you eat a pigeon..." according to my mate Brian, a dyed-in-the-wool Yorkshireman and countryman, "...just you and the pigeon!" Good shot and great cooking - I prefer it to haute cuisine any day. Chris

I had set aside an hour to do some maintenance work on the pool and had taken the ‘X’ with me, laying it down in easy reach, just in case. I wasn’t disappointed; a plump feral pigeon set down on a telephone pole about 35 yards from me. Fortunately it was facing away from me into a slight breeze and it didn’t hear me cock the rifle. There was nothing to brace myself against so it had to be a standing shot. I put the cross on the base of the pigeon’s neck, paused my breathing and when the sight picture was steady, squeezed the trigger. There was a loud smack as the pellet connected and

Jane Doe (any relation to Terry?) said, "Doesn't anyone on this site care for BSA's? I bought a second hand Supersport for £20 that was new in 1988.Plenty powerful and acurate too I've shot loads of Ferals and squirrels round the Stable area and, as a favour to the local Vic, Ferals roosting around the Church. Regards. J.H.S." The BSA Supersport is/was an excellent lightweight hunting air rifle. I bought one new about 12 years ago from Sandwell Field Sports; I had the trigger sears stoned and pull-weight adjusted by Tony Wall (who, it's great to know, is still in business);I fitted a T

Quote: "Sorry to sound like a gun snob but, given the power of the Law, I would ban a lot of Noricas, certain SMKs and Gamos from being used as hunting rifles. Poor, stiff-as-hell triggers that either pull your shot off target completely, or cause a nasty body wound and suffering. Cheap builds and parts that fall apart or fail during prolonged shooting sessions. I consider myself a decent air rifle shot and I wouldn't touch a cheap budget gun for hunting in a million years." I have 2 Weihrauchs - an HW95 and an HW50S both are excellent shooters. But I also have a tuned Gamo Whisper X whic

Sorry mate, I've got to pass on this. My arrangement for storing the gun for me fell through, someone put their foot down. Although I haven't seen this one I can vouch for the Mk2 Career Carbine. I've had one (now in .177 because of SA law) for 10 years and they are brilliant. Mine can group under 1 inch at 70 yards. I wanted another but in .22. Pity to let this one go. Chris

If this is a .20 or .22 or .25 I will take the lot for £450 please, paid by Paypal, posted to UK address if everything is in very good condition. PM to follow. Chris

I know a few hunters whose proud claim is that they eat what they shoot. Well, I must agree that venison is pretty tasty, and even the humble rabbit has a few pages in the Delia Smith cookery book, omnibus edition. A fellow shooter at a full-bore club I attended had shot whatever there is to shoot in several continents and claimed he always ate his bag. That held true until he shot a grizzly bear; now he's known ironically as "The man who eats bear." But what about crow - would you eat one? I have to admit, I never have. But maybe it's all in the mindset; we could be pleasantly surprised.

It's the same model as the HW50S; both have the Record trigger, which on a springer is about as good as it gets. Very accurate as you'd expect from a Weihrauch. I have just bought one new for a lot more money. My advice is get it, before someone else does. Cheers, Chris

How did we retrieve the duck? We sent one of the farm workers to get it and in return gave him the doves and the duck for the pot. Cheers, Chris

I was skimming through some of the older threads on here and one I could identify with is “golden moments†(started by rossij with replies from various members). I agree, it’s such a satisfying experience when you pull off a good shot – especially if there’s someone to witness it. Recently, I was out shooting with my stepson, Jan, on the farm he manages. An Afrikaner, brought up with rifles, he claims he “only speaks English in self-defenceâ€! Anyway, we get on well; communicating in a mixture of English and Afrikaans, we manage a bit of good-natured banter. I had my

Spring air rifle shooting.
Manco replied to pianoman's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Excellent post. I share your fondness for springers and have recently added a Weihrauch HW95K and an Kw50S to my collection. Chris -
It can be very satisfying to take to the woods or fields with nothing more than a break-barrel spring gun and some of your favourite pellets. It has a back-to-basics, low-tech simplicity that appeals to the purist in me. And I believe that shooting a spring gun is a great way of honing ones marksmanship skills. As an inveterate plinker and occasional pest controller I have taken a shine to the Gamo Whisper X. For a lightweight spring-powered ‘hunter’ air rifle in my view the ‘X’ takes a lot of beating. Its synthetic thumbhole stock, I regard as nothing short of brilliant. To b

I bought my scope 3 years ago and since then I have used it more or less continually; It sat on top of my Sumatra pcp for several months but most of the time it has been mounted on a Gamo springer: first a Hunter 440 and latterly my Whisper X. These are my impressions of using the scope over this period. Counting up a stack of empty pellet tins (I’m a hoarder!) tells me it’s survived the launch of more than 5000 pellets – that’s just on springers – and it’s still going strong. The scope was supplied new with a one-piece N-S mount and pivoting, tinted end caps intended to keep

Thanks guys. I'll look out for the velcro strap for mounting the unit on the scope. I don't understand the reference to White and Red LEDs (zini). Are these like sealed beam units for cars? Can you recommend a particular supplier - there are loads to choose from on ebay? I had a Clulite with a big battery, but I will go for one of these much lighter Surefire units now. Thanks again.
