All depends on the ground your working big open fens there no need for bull put in a coursing dog but if your hunting small fields with gates fences hedges ditches rivers etc etc you need a bit maddest put in there to get thought or over this things. A touch not much just touch bull or wheaten well take away the nerves off the saulk. Some thing like 1/2 saulk 1/4 bull or wheaten 1/4 grey can make handy coursing dog What a crock of poo,,, salukis are probably the best jumpers around if trained to do so,,, and thats what the problem is,, too many lads just slap them on a hare on big open
-
never heard so much crap run [bANNED TEXT] u run dont advertise it u can see who the noddys are advertising ilegal stuff on the interneclever lads
-
someone said salukis ad tractability that bit is pants saluki ad alot but not that far from it ive got a saluki x he is what he is day time lacks the brains for an alrounder

So, she's double cool in my opinion. ive always used deerhoundxgreyhound 1stx never had a problem there fast enough turn well and do the job very quik

This is Chuck, what do you think?
harrylongears replied to welshnutter69's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If i was to take the plunge with a bull cross id probably seek out a genuine owner who seeks no recognition of the dogs prowess, someone who works the dogs to the standard they where bred for and feels no need to big themselves or their dogs up.I certainly would,nt go down the road of using a stud that probably needs to be doubled up,is left to pick up as much punishment as possible so the signs of conflict can be seen as some sort of badge of honour by an owner that to prove their own shortcomings lives on a dogs reputation,so ill pass, but thanks for the generous offer. You really dont hav -
That sounds alot better mate, I'l give it ago, Mate, listen to some of the other lads, in a nutshell its a wank idea, find your dog something to chase, to allow his instincts to kick in. Find a rabbit far out and let the dog use the instincts he has. The dogs drive is triggered by flight of the prey species, having a dead rabbit in a field!!! My bet is you will have to walk the dog to within an inch of it and he will show little interest in the cadaver, get him sighted on something moving and he chase. a dead pegged rabbit this site just gets better [bANNED TEXT] next i say?

is that ur dog dean
-
why dont they stick to there posts and visa versa problem solved no arguing.....long dog men there topics lurcher men theres because longdog men think there better then lucher men simple because some there dogs go for £10,000 £20,000 and if your lucher cant kill hare single in the winter you dont have dog or say or even know what your talking about its all hunting which ever way u look at it depends on the person i say good look.

Pictures of catches WITHOUT the snow down!
harrylongears replied to danny dolman's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I think you missed the point really but,the only way a catch can be evaluated is if the run is seen ,ie from start to finish. For example was it given law ? If so how much 80yds a 100yds ,or was it a kickup? As for me ,if I gave a shit ,I might point out that the hare in the picture looks to have been taken early in the year, ie before the season , and the other hare has been lamped , a few lamped rabbits, and a couple of ferreted ones. do not mean so very much .Just be happy with your dogs and don't throw out silly challenges to people you do not even know, one of them might just take you up -
