Totally agree with that quote I would go so far as to say its not the dog but the owners fault when a dog attacks a child, whether it be the time of the attack or in its upbringing, some short cut has been taken to allow the attack.

Dont agree with some of that - if everyone only gave to friends how the hell would anyone else be able to get in to the game, some of the peeps just starting out - they have to get a lurcher from somewere, not all strangers are bad owners. When I sold on the excess of the litter Twenty Years ago,and the last litter, met some real tidy people went out with them a couple times had some cracking hunting will dig out some old photos see if I can get back in touch through the wonders of the net. I have to say lot of the last litter went to people of here, don't want to name names as the -
The Cost of a Lurcher Pup
heart of wales replied to heart of wales's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I wouldn't even attempt to breed a litter if I couldn't afford to rear them properly And as for giving them away to mates don't disagree with that or as payment for stud So lets just take into consideration the litter I bred Twenty odd Years ago Bedlington x Whippet stud dog mine to a Track Greyhound bitch given to me a payment for a rat job I done on a greyhound kennels.Result of the mating Thirteen unlucky for some very healthy puppies One was mine Four went to mates,I am left with Eight healthy pups the litter was that good we all struggled to pick.No way at the age of Six weeks was as w -
Terrified collie cross
heart of wales replied to jaegervulpes's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
wait for one to go overhead shoot it down see if she retrieves it,Just joking These things are a nuisance like low flying planes around here scare the crap out of the sheep not good particularly when they are in lamb. We had a sheepdog bitch once who had the heart of a lion take up to hill ground working sheep about five mile away, army range nearby if they started firing she would run home,we kept her for around the home farm. -
The Cost of a Lurcher Pup

Some interesting comments its a subject were everyone's opinion seems to differ,I only breed a litter if I intend to keep one back or for good friends ,thats why I tend to put a lot into them thought energy and money. If You wants something on a plate You 99% of the times have to pay for it if You want a hamburger there is one price steak theres another way of the world unfortunately. I also believe that if someone paid a reasonable price such as £120 and it was advertised as such it would cut out a lot of the time wasters and dog abusers, there are far to many what I call Bed & -
Having seen a lot of topics on here regarding Lurcher breeding,Puppy Prices, stud Prices and so on,was interested in everyone opinion on the cost of a Lurcher puppy. I know that some are obviously going to be given away to mates kept for yourself and so on but the remainder of the litter, what would You charge, everyone is different in their approach to breeding lurchers and how much they spend on rearing a litter, which would obviously effect the cost of the pups. The last litter of lurchers I bred was over Two Years ago and I was fortunate to gain the services of a cracking Greyhound to use ov

Unfortunately today our society would rather spend money protecting animals i.e hare badger deer and foxes, than cancer patients in hospitals, our local hospital is closing yet money is being spent hand over fist on wildlife crime, let the animals fend for themselves look after the elderly and the sick, there is plenty of dogooders  :wankerzo4: who will go out in the country and do it for nothing the got all better to do Anyway rant over that got that off my chest

heart of wales replied to calum henderson's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
As has been said before work on his basic obedience first, socialise him as much as you can by that I mean walk amongst people and other animals, take him out lamping for say an hour tops but dont let him off the lead, dont walk him miles he needs to grow first. -
Get well soon Flint It is incredible how people are so clever never making any mistakes or taking any chances I had a lucky escape with a herd of cows on land that I had hunted on for over four Years nothing but sheep, phoned the farmer okay to go on yes no problem seen a fox that morning the conversation went, the field if You can picture it You entered on a flat went on for twenty or so acres then up a steep bank on to a plateau or flat Ten acres cracking place for hares, the night was windy and drizzle, walk the bottom walked up the hill slippery as hell been raining for days, gets up o

Each to there own when judging ,but personally I would never mark down a working dog on scarring, and as long as the wounds were clean and healing properly again not a problem, anyone who has owned working dogs has had the odd injury or scar.I wouldnt advise taking a dog to a show that looked liked it just met Jack the ripper the night before that just asking for trouble somethings are best left in the kennel out of prying eyes until healed.
