WCS Tube Trap( Mink Set-up).
heart of wales replied to Rolfe's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Good set up that Rolfe Important around here because of Badger and Otter numbers If they discovered that they would just dig to the back and leave the trap alone like the do with my moletraps -
I have never seen a mole job thats the same i.e. Distance travelled to and from the job, Type of ground hill flat stony clay sandy Condition of the farm, shit hole gates that dont hang, sheep or stock roaming everywhere What the customer is like do anything to help you,or thinks he is doing you a favour giving you a job And last but not least what preditors are there Badgers foxes All the above can change the price of a job for me I never quote over the phone or give standard prices, and my price can change to suit the petrol and diesel price very important when you are travelling to and

Because the weather is getting warmer old foxie starts to get reluctant to go into a trap, plenty of other food about, except cubs which wouldnt be causing the problem yet.He is probably going there in the day, cant You wire him, sometimes you can wait all night or early morning squeaking till your blue in the face no signs cause he is hunting somwhere else.

Have trapped the same farm for Ten Years always taking decreasing numbers each as I have been eliminating them before they have the opportunity to breed, except this Year where the numbers have risen sharply,I think the snow has helped not hindered moles, bring it on more work the better.

heart of wales replied to swanseajack's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Wellingtons never bothered me and always keep my feet dry Ex fire service gortex leggings cool warm and dry and very hard wearing and knee pads from b&q Gloves I by the red hard rubber type as there cheap and once there wet and muddy normally keep a spare set on the quad Coat not fussed normally the cheap £20 from the game fair as long as it keeps some wet out,I have bought exspensive and a couple of days moling and the water pisses through. -
I seen one about Twenty Years ago, down in Tenby use to be a racing club I use to go to,it was a bike frame string wrapped around the wheel withought the tyre, what propelled it was the pedals and chain, and the system was about four foot in the air, this went down the line to a free running wheel.Worked well to from what I can remember.

Reading this reminds me of a time me and a mate who used to go out regular four nights a week and considered ourselves resonably fit,we were invited up to go lamping with another great mate who was a foot huntsman for that area,The land he took us to was to die for fields of dreams then double it,he was only intrested in shooting foxes and was carrying a 222. Walk We never walked so fast in all our lives it was great just to stop to watch the dogs course and have a breather,I thought my mate who was carrying a fair bit was going to have a heart attack I recon that night we must have walked

mole charges ??
heart of wales replied to kevin from bristol's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Intresting topic everyone has different opinions, areas, and needs, some profesionally, some pocket money, and some for permission, I think the thread is aimed at profesional only, as unless all profesional exspenses are taken into account, the originator of the thread wont be able to guage what to charge. As for pricing I have worked in the past for three major pest control companies and have seen prices vary vastly from area to area, Me I know how much I can earn on other pests daily if I cant charge that as a rule of thumb I leave it there and go to the next one,I have more than enough work -
mole charges ??
heart of wales replied to kevin from bristol's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
The price of diesel wear & tear on the vehicle you got to be looking at 30p per mile, then Your insurance cost plus your hourly rate which should never be charged than the minimum wage, or whats the point may as well be cleaning windows I never give a price over the phone You could be speaking to a competitor, always look at the job first and then work out a price,I have been doing this job for a long time now and no two are the same, thats part of the enjoyment I supose -
The only thing I would add to the previous post is ,if You capture the squirells make sure they are not red before you decide to kill them, as red are protected wherever You are in the UK.

Put a photo up of your set up I have access to dead chickens fully feathered,I strip the feathers off like a fox kill scattering them in the cage as a lead up to the cacase.works for me every time especially in this cold weather.
