  1. it was £30 plus £4.95 p&p for them dropped on a great one there i'l put some pic's on the weekend of what i catch i'v dropped them in a bucket with some stuff drop want to tell to many tips but it a great idea mike Don't put any pic's up on my account, you don't have to prove anything. I would urge you however not to use inferior quality traps in the interest of mole welfare and professionalism, even though you are an amateur please be responsible.
  2. £1.50 a trap !! "real quality" Would love to know what these "couple of tricks" you have are, you just have to catch them not entertain them with "tricks", but with inferior quality traps it may be the better option..
  3. Well put Matt... a harsh dose of reality is often the best advice..
  4. In what way do you think you could "fool" a mole into entering another trap ?? the reason I mention using another type was if you are not placing the HB properly in position, in which case you may have an easier time using another type. However, if poss it is best to stick with one type initially and perfect its use and setting before using another, Pro's may use a variety of traps as certain soil types better suit particular traps. But the halfbarrell is in general terms all things to all men. I think your problem is where or how you are setting your trap, a well placed and set trap
  5. Personally,... I am happy with my batch of imported Jalfrezi Grippers,...and for that reason alone,..(and bearing in mind the competitive nature of the mole catching business locally),... ..I would strongly advise folk to stick with what they know,..and what they feel comfortable with using.... You know it makes sense..... Horses for Courses.... All the best,.CHALKWARREN... As above stick with what you know, just make sure all points are covered (mentioned previously) and in addition, ensuring trap is sealed properly (covered, no gaps or holes to the
  6. If they are the cheap "green cord type" then I would honestly throw them. and get yourself some proper ones from one of the boys on here. It sounds like the cheap ones you have, if they are coming unwound, not that they are ever wound properly to start with. In short get some proper snares, they will last well and catch nicely as the action is smoother and quicker.
  7. I take it those are the ones recently stocked by Magnum Trap??
  8. Think of all those double catches your missing out on CW.. by not using the halfbarrell. Jokes aside, they are good traps, just not as good as a nicely tuned Halfbarrell DL
  9. would mate but just got layed off and money is non excistant at the moment If your unemployed, the PDSA may do it for free.. worth a call.. DL
  10. A mole knows every thing in its environment and is quickly alerted to any change, that is why it is important to ensure it's environment is left as it expects to find it, more often than not it's as simple as a trap not placed correctly or changes to the tunnel's shape or orientation by the trapper which alerts the mole to danger.
  11. Hope it was duff info then, thought it was a bit doubtful !!
  12. Was talking to a retailer today who said that Fenn are folding up.. surely this can't be true.. does anyone know if this is true ? DL

  14. I am a little bewildered why you would take the picture down ?? Yes, I can see the rabbit, but you're not doing anything illegal !!! as long you have your permission to be there, thats it ...
  15. John b 's (John Bryan) book has plans for one " Trap Making" "Step by Step" a good book.. and can be obtained from him directly I believe.. DL
  16. Read the pinned article at the top of this section by "GS Waters"..
  17. There are moves afoot trying to get these "live catch" traps discontinued, due to the poor welfare implications. Lord Donoughue has been asked to look at the discontinuation of these traps, as well as another MEP representative. If you consider "Mr Smith" buys one of these traps at the local garden centre to catch a mole in his garden, it's placed in situ and a mole is duly caught in it, it could be several long hrs, or even days before this is checked, no law has been broken as the trap has no springs in it's operation. The mole is then taken to a relocation area, already depleted of wa
  18. There you go OTC, two for the price of one ! the Scottish and the Old English version's...

  22. For a quick set, attach just top and bottom. The same with your two end poles, However, I tape a four evenly spaced meshes to each of the end poles.
  23. John Norris have got a sale on at the moment.. so there may be a bargain or two.
  24. Personaly i think its very much cluching at straws to quote case law from a book which is more than 15 years old which is most likely refering to an indavidual case which is even older, public opiion has changed a great deal in that space of time regarding animal welfare and rights etc so i definitely wouldnt rely on a definition from a book highlighting a specific case, i would keep myself within the exact wording of the actuall law that exists, not something someone once defined it as many years ago. You who's clutching at straws pal.......so you blindly follow the act which was made
