yep spent many days collecting eggs but only ever took 1 from a nest , used to go up the hills for the peweeps eggs great eating (lapwings) but they dont nest the same areas either one thing i sussed from early is out in fields u only find finches where ther are hedgrows ,fencing seems to have shiffted them on

is that the ceramic ones ? Yep and there also good for putting ice cubes and a bit of water in during hot weather keeps the stinkers cool and ocupied , cheers the local pet shop is a bit expensive for the same i can get 3 now from poundland

just havin a read through this forum never kept finches , i remember in the late 60s when i was just a boy the birdy guys would set big nets to catch finches ect ,they would keep them,sell em to pet shops,or take them to the farmers market , does this practice still go on or is it a banned practice i still walk the dogs in the area although the finch guys are long gone it seems the finches are long gone too , never see them in the numbers that used to be around although if u go to the right places there still plenty around .

the scottish association for country sports (sacs) is good i heard,low membership fees (£25ish) and high liabilty and covers all aspects of hunting eg shooting,ferrreting,falconry etc,or so i believe... 30 quid a year but there doing 1st year half price insurance included in membership goggle scottish countryside alliance
