Does The Shape Of A Dog Affect Its Performance?
trenchfoot replied to squab's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
forget the head like a snake And shiver like a whippet -
true, but he lived in a place where his stock could be tested on its intended quarry, I dont think there are many wolves in cornwall

Dogs started down the slippery road when they went from being a type, to becoming a breed. Outward physical characteristics dominate what defines a breed these days rather than its outright ability to do the job it was intended to do. Breed close, test hard, cull honestly and be prepared for a bumpy ride! But if your out to create a modern functional wolfhound type dog, I'll bet a pound toa pinch of sh#t you'll end up with something that looks like a US stag, or Aussie stag type dog

New Pup...(Romeo X Belle)
trenchfoot replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Cracking pup that! I had the pleasure of seeing a couple of pups from this litter yesterday, Strong dog and a clever little bitch, and they look and act like toppers in the making. And even at this young age appreciate the mesmeric effect of a bobbing white rump. good luck to all those who have them. -
got bit on the wrist by a rat whilst tickling trout as a kid. tore the flesh as I ripped it off. Hospital just steri-stripped it and jabs. Since then I hate the feckers! And if anyone tells you to grab them by the tail 'cos they can't climb up their own body length, dont believe 'em 'cos its bolloxs!

If it is, I hope to god it's not line bred! Unfortunately it was. Turned on the farmers grandkids 2 days later and had to be shot in the head Doesn't surprise me! It's all down to the breeding and rearing. I once tried to breed with a sheep from the rear, and that turned out messy too! So you think how one is entered may have a bearing on it's temperament also Probably, most of my dogs have been collie x's, so I'm not as good around a hole as some others ;0)

Line breeding any line of dogs who shows aggression can create more aggressive dogs...not just bull x's. That's true, but unfortunately the nature of some of the work where a bull x excels combined with the nature of some of the owners can wrongly confuse aggression for drive and gameness.

Bull x's wear their heart on they're sleeve. If one is unhappy with a situation then a knowledgable owner will know immediately to anticipate a response from the dog, unlike those sly biting, grudge carrying collie beggars

Protein In Dry Food
trenchfoot replied to aaron the coursing man's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
50% beef at 20% mixed with 50% dry at 28%, gives an average of 24% Sandy, sorry for being a bit thick, but i don't understand if you fill his bowl with half raw Beef at 20% and half complete 28% would that not give you 48% Maybe yourself and Skycat could come up with the answer if feeding raw Beef, chicken lamb or rabbit and using a dry complete as a mixer, how much percentage of protein would you prefer the mixer to be, 20% or 28%? think about what content is not protein. % and 72%. if you add those together you get 152% ! you need to take the average of the two amounts -
Benelli & Fabarm Semi-Autos... Any Good?
trenchfoot replied to Deano88's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Never had trouble with cycling a benelli. 30g cartridges work a treat. Fabarm are gas operated, and can be more sensitive. Some have a reversible gas valve in the for end for lighter or heavier loads, which suggests there is no happy medium. Also if the benelli doesn't suit you, you will always get a good price on a trade in or sale. Not the case with a Fabarm -
Carrying a Air Rifle in case this scenario arises stops all the grey areas incase of a court caseIe' you'd be flushing to the gun. Max I'm Not Looking For An Option If That Happened Mate , I'm Just Putting A Possible Situation Up & What The Law Would State . . So If My Dog Lifted & Caught A Hare On Permission What Could Those In Power Do About That . . I Bet Not A Lot !! As long as you are blowing your "silent" dog whistle in an attempt to call it off, your fine

As a worker, salukis are more like a subcontractor, rather than an employee. Abuse your working relationship and they will feck it off. Strike an even working partnership, where the dog knows who pays his corn, then it's a corker of a partnership. IMO you never own a saluki type dog, they choose to work for you. I hope that makes sense!? And if they play you up, grab hold of them big lugs, they are that big for a reason

What Was Best After Minshaw's Blue??
trenchfoot replied to Herdus's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Half x minshaw? I always thought the were mongrelised collie curs, with regular out crosses. Albeit high performing ones! -

do polytunnels come in 8 ft lengths lol.I DONT THINK SO .the lack of space is my problem,I have little or no space left and loads of timber.I might have a go at making (god help me )a few racks from pallets.I surely can bang a few nails in without making a complete balls of it cant I?Im a fekin disaster with wood work/carpentry/handy man shit.lol...I have a lot of ash and oak and holly and gorse stems, and a load of spruce thrown in too.All for free.as long as I keep shooting the goats then I have a supply of timber and a nice few bottles of poteen, and before you jump to conclusions I dont EV

It's a bit early for me usually, but seeing as its nearly Xmas!

poly tunnel, open at both ends. lets the timber dry out, allows heat from the sun in to accelerate this over the summer and good ventilation. works a treat on large or small scale
