  1. I don't envisage this group doing any true lobbying of the government. If we are "affiliated" to the Countryside Alliance, that is their speciality. The more members the group has, the stronger our right to be heard will be. We need to be in it to win it.does that mean countryside alliance are looking for money contributions from this group ? not from Scotland by any chance?

  3. Ive had mine for 36 years now. Its had more springs than a fat birds pogo stick. if you have barrel waggle, re-shim it and fit a new bolt and latch assembly. I believe you can get oversized latches to hone to fit.
  4. polish up the slide for the barrel latch. Sticky ones snap off the little finger of wood one the fore end
  5. 95% of lurcherfolk (not coursing folk) had never heard of, or forgotten about the ALC before this thread started. The ALC is/was stuck with the past history of essentially supporting the course clubs. As much as we all would like to return to the halcyon days of "pre-ban" and will do all we can to campaign for that ban to be lifted,Those days are long gone. In the current environment, a "working lurcher federation" needs to represent those who work within the current laws. I think Alan was more aware of that fact, than Your giving him credit for trenchfoot, his experience of dealings w
  6. there is only 1 post on what you were up to in what nearly a month on this forum and the OP has been removed completely WHY? how do we know whats been going on on the secret forum Y.I.S Leeview The ALC appear to have nothing in the last few years, yet you appear to see that as a model of support for lurcherwork? I stated earlier on other threads, bear with us timelines and information. When there is ANYTHING to tell ANYONE it will be done.
  7. Lads and lasses, time for bitching is not now. Lets get this back on track. Anyone willing to stand up and try to get our voices heard and our opinions valued?

  9. The three are Sandymere, Mushroom and myself, with Declaw69 as a notary. We have a date to meet with Tim Bonner next week. As it stands, now that the "chairman" has had to stand down, it may well mean that I will attend this meeting on my own. However, as per the original post on this thread any one who feels that they have something to add to the steering group, and the time and experience to drive things forward then feel free to stand up and say so.
  10. Try looking on this site for independant advice/reviews http://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk
  11. I was driving down a narrow lane yesterday. There was another car in front of me. On the narrow lane, the old bloke driving the other way pulled over to let the car in front of me drive past. He had to back up a little to let me through. His face was bright red. I could see him getting wound up as I started to pass him. The fella even put his window down to vent his anguish at having to stop to let me past. As I drew level, I returned the favour, and wound down my window. The old lad started to swear at me, but before he hit his stride I asked him " are you Ronnie Pickering?!" he said no, so
  12. Ducks, dig a pond. but pigs will trash it. Our ground is very wet up here and I have to keep pigs on a concrete pad for most of the winter. Of this are mini paddocks that I can rotate to stop them getting fecked.
  13. The RSPCA tried to take an old fella from the village through courts when his two lurchers grabbed his neighbours cat in his own yard. The little girl who's cat it was saw it all. He saved the cat and chucked it, alive, back over the fence before anymore damage was caused. The police wrote to him a threatened to revoke his shotgun license. Case got dismissed, but not before it aged the poor old fella. The same fella, who, when he worked for the council, buried a horse that had its throat slit by travellers. The RSPCA asked him to do this, as they didn't want the grief of dealing with the trav
  14. chop it up and roast it with onions until it chars. Then put in a pan and cover with chicken stock. once soft, blitz it with a blender. season and add chill. The soup like this is a meal in its own right
  15. Bring them up from pups on that type of ground, they'll do just fine. Saluki's are far more versatile than some give them the credit for.
  16. I've been using traps in one form or another for the last 30 years or so. I've lost count of how many creatures have fallen to them. Yet still, every time I lift the lid on a tunnel trap,or such like, and there is a catch. I still feckin' jump! Even those fixed tunnels that catch 300+ rats a year. Snares and cage traps dont even register. Is it just me?
  17. send us a postcode, we will send a relocating committee!
  18. Penny, All you need is a nationally supported platform............ Isnt that part of the proposals being discussed for this association of working lurchers? quite possibly
  19. easily done. Once numbers get too high relocate the surplus to a local golf course
  20. The original thread is pinned and locked at the top of this sub-forum. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/346868-the-future-of-working-lurchers/page-30 Bear with us lads, it's in hand. When there is anything definitive to update you with, we will
  21. You can charge a stud fee any day of the week, and any week of the year. If you own a bitch, you would be doing well to get a litter a year from her. Ego's and pound notes is what it often boils down to.
  22. there s a farmer not far from me with 2 small border collie bitches. I'm not a big fan of collie crosses but these 2 bitches are as rough as rough. They sleep wherever they can find shelter all year round and when we take the terriers ratting they kill as quick as the terriers do. I ve personally seen em take fox and they have stamina to burn. Will he let me put a good greyhound over one ? Will he hell. Miserable old txxt . Ask him if he knows of any males of the same breeding
