  2. Little 19" collie x 1/4bed 3/4 whip. super little bushing dog. works well in the pack. At 5 she is just starting to calm down a bit and the experience shows. When working with the other dogs she knows to sit tight around the edges as the collie bashes hard into thick cover. On her own she will get in nice and tight. Misses quite a lot this way, but can give some nice flushes for the gun. I must admit that mouching with a bobbery pack has become my favourite way of working on the moors and fringes that we have up here. And can be highly productive on sparse ground. JMO

  12. cheers for the tips guys. Bit of a result today. I got the boat out and had a good rummage around the banks. I found a few active holes and plenty of signs of activity. But from water level I could see into the brambles on the far bank and found an old mink cage trap in raft! Managed to extricate the cage and clear the trigger plate and its functioning fine. Set it at the waters edge, baited with a tin of sardines. I also found an old fox cage trap, which with a little fettleing should come in handy too. Not all good though. Having taken the boat out of the barn I forgot to put the drain p
  13. We have had a return of mink. they are now slowly devouring the ducklings on the pond. I have also uncovered one of their nests when I pulled down the old fishing shed. Underneath was stuffed with old bones and a pile of petrified frogs and toads. Short of sitting out all day/night with the gun, any tips on trapping them. I am used to rat trapping, but never had to deal with these little buggers up close and personal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Trenchfoot

  15. the only thing i think you would get with the 2nd 1x is more speed, because the original 4 1/8 's acd is as you say watered down with the grey both sides. Not saying the not as good as the 1st x, but you could have lost some of that acd temp that you wanted in the 1st place .!! Or loose some of the ACD temp that you didn't!?
  16. well never seen the vid, but he sounds like he trains on over the top (dominance)=fear . When dogs are scared of you, they never really work well for you, they have one eye on you all the while, so they dont get hit .! and dont work proper . And ive had it with dogs, that you have come to heavy on them and they (never) forget, so the dog never works proper. You got to i think be in control of the dog, but be fair with it. The best way to train a dog is with your mouth, not a kick up the arse or wack round the head, when things go wrong, and they do with all dogs as they grow up .Bryn

  18. I am the same, I also found that the dogs didn't catch on to the change of beam straight away. They still are more eager when the blitz comes out
  19. Views sought on control of hares The Law Commission is currently conducting a review of wildlife management legislation for the Government. This includes the fact that although there are some minimal restrictions on the control of hares on moorland and unenclosed land, and on the sale of hares at certain times, there is no real close season. As a result, Defra has contacted the CLA to seek its views in advance of any proposed changes to the law. It has also stated it would welcome views on possible measures to minimise the adverse welfare impacts on hares whilst recognising the need fo
