  1. hi just being nosy have you got any pics. bet they are pretty dogs.
  2. i like ths post. the lying down in the grass idea sounds like it may work. you would probably get a bit wet tho lol. i had a friends pup that used to do the same thing. i just used to crouch down, call the pup and have a treat in my hand. let them come over give them the treat and a fuss and hold the collar for 10 seconds and then let them go. that way they see being caught as a pleasant thing. and that it doesnt just mean you are going home and its the end of his fun.
  3. yes they do suffer from that condition and there eyes pop out! and they get breathing problems and heart defects. very inbred dogs and not very healthy
  4. lol these dogs were never bred to be a working dog. they are classed as a toy dog. they were bred to keep the queen company when the king was away ha ha
  5. hi just read your message. i went for a lesson with him on wednesday last week. he was really good had my pup walking off the lead to heal in 5 mins. going to go back every 2 weeks untill shes fully trained. thanks becky

  6. yeah i know what you mean actually. even my lemon cocker looks a bit foxy in low light
  7. ahh i say give him a go. his recall will get better once he knows you and once he learns his name. and 6 months is a good age to start training. good luck
  8. yeah ive heard that aswell. and a white lurcher is bad luck. guess the rabbits see them sneaking up and leg it lol
  9. its just personel choice. the colour of the dog makes no difference to how it works, i like lemon roan cockers. been trying to breed them but keep getting blacks ha ha. still very pretty tho and have kept one back.
  10. Obviously the older dogs recall isn't good around scents....i'd be suprised if you could change that now and really would it be wotrh it. I'd keep my concentration fixed on getting it right with the pup, basics sound good so far... A couple of lessons on where to go now i think would be a good idea and a step in the right direction to get a 100% steady working cocker......atb i want the pup to be perfect, im going to try my best, dont want to make any mistakes with her at all.
  11. I wouldn't waste your money with the 5 year old........pup would thrive probably though... the 5 year old is the mother and shes ok really. only goes beating. just wondered if i could brush up on her obedience when shes on a walk when there are pheasanst about. dont want to get told off for her chasing all the birds away. You could try it....i think you'll be pulling your hair out but have a go. I'd put it on a lead and let it off when the drive cant be ruined. actually she is steady on a shoot. she doesnt go far from me at all because shes a bit worried of the gu

  13. i have been training them myself. just wanted some help. like the pup is really good at recall and sit. really good at retrieving a tennis ball. and now i have been puting her on a lead and throwing the ball into rough ground and sending her in to get it. shes great snffs it out in know time tail wagging the whole time. ive got her started on dummys now so she can get used to somethng that weighs more than a tennis ball. she brings it back to hand. i can throw 2 in different places and she will go in and get them. just i dont know what and when to do the next thing. dont know how to get h
  14. try to do your best training it yourself, youll get a lot more satisfaction out of it and every dog is a learning experience.(train them one at a time),from what ive seen of cockers they seem frantic to please their owners.
  15. hi i have 2 cocker spaniels one is 5 and the other 8months. was thinking about going to have some training lessons at gamegoers gundogs in heathfield oxfordshire. the guy that runs it is called graham watkins. anybody know if he is any good?? thanks becky
  16. took them both to the vet. they have a skin infecton caused by somethink being sprayed on the field or just from thorn scratches. one has to have her ears hibi scrubbed and the other has got antibiotics for the blisters on her tummy.
  17. My idea is to get her to the vets......
  18. hi i have 2 cocker spaniels. i took them on a walk in a different place to usual on friday. they were in and out of the hedges the hole time. my pup who is 8 months old now has some really angry looking blisters on her tummy. one was full of a green watery fluid last night but just looks raw this morning. and her mother has big scabby blisters on her ears. they have been treated with advocate last week so cant be fleas or anything. any ideas what could have caused this??
  19. i always tease the bitch every day from 10 days and see how she reacts. if she will stand mate her and then do it every other day untill she wont anymore. no way you can miss it then normally once the discharge turns from red to straw colour they are about ready, good luck
  20. :hmm:im having an awful crisis. 8 months ago i bred a lovely litter of working cocker spaniels. i kept one of the bitch pups back and she is fantastic. she has been the easiest pup to train, never puts a foot wrong and is a real little gem. my problem is i sold one of the pups to a person i know in my village. i have seen her walking it and she has all the gadgets to stop him pulling like halters and harness and i thought this was a bit odd as my pup walks perfectly in a slip lead. and then i bumped into her today and she told me she uses a shock collar on him as he runs off and chases shee
  21. i would just take her to the vet for a check to be honest. she may have a bit of stick lodged in her throat. could cause a lot of damage. hope she ok
  22. well i fnally got round to taking my little dog beating. shes was really good. a little shy of all the other dogs and being so close to the gun fire. i only took her for the morning but she grew in confidence by the end. she didnt run off or chase any pheasants which was good im gong to take her again and see how she gets on. thanks for all the advice
  23. i dont get the fasination with cross breeds at the moment. why do you want a sprocker? whats wrong with a cocker or a springer?? i heard somebody was crossing labs to springers aswell.
  24. the game keeper invited me after seeing me out walking my dog. he told me off for having her off the lead. i didnt know it was a shoot and she was flushing pheasants out of the hedge. however he said she was a good little dog and asked if i wanted to come along. i didnt tell him she wasnt really trained just does it nataurly. she will pick up too and bring back to my hand. but i cant send her out or anything she just does it. hmmm. will have to have a think. can i keep her on the lead for the whole tme then. do people do that. i dont want to look silly. i plan to get a puppy in the spring an
