  1. Hi all, need some advice. I've got a 13month old lurcher has had 15 rabbits but will retrieve to 10 yards then run off then back then run off then come back without the rabbit. I've tried walking off. With a dummy or toy he retrieves fine played tug of war all good. Am I worth letting a old dog that can't take the rabbit off her go once she has caught to make her more possesive and carry and not drop. Then recall the older dog. And try to call the young dog in. Please help
  2. Thanks all some good replies. I've played tug of war and thrown for her. Tried her again last night had 2 carried alot better but tried the lap of honour trick. Brought into 5 yards then off again. But think it's really helped gonna try to get her to jump up on me with dummy.just gonna play for 10 minutes a day
  3. Thanks squab, I'm down on my knees when calling her i. It's so frustrating
  4. Hi, I'm in need of some help I've got a 13month old pup that retrieves dummies straight to hand. But will mess around with a rabbit on lamp, She will come into 5 yards away then drop her catch and come in empty handed. Shes had 10 rabbits and brought 1 all the way in once. Any tips on getting her to carry better. I've tried walking away and still no different. I'm hoping once she has a season she will mature and be more possessive. Her breeding is (Whippet/grey X Whippet/grey/saluki). Any advice thanks in advance
  5. and Labrador is common in lurchers. It just seems to be live but after only a couple of trips. She will hopefully be ok
  6. you said she drops the rabbits? So is she killing the rabbits? 3lb of muscle kicking about in a young dogs mouth WILL make it frustrated mate Yeah she is killing them
  7. Ive walked 200yards away and she still carried, at end of night I chucked a dead Rabbit 20 yards and she brought straight back. Just seeing what others recommend
  8. Help I've got a 8 months old pup. She's had 5 rabbits on the lamp. 2 she has brought into 10 foot away othets she runs off. I've tried walking of for a good 200yards she comeback to me then back picked up Rabbit and come back part way in. The annoying thing is she retrieves fine with a dummy. Hopefully the retrieving training I've given her will come through. Shall I continue to walk off when she catches after calling her with her not coming in or just stand there calling her? I want to get this right
  9. Well done he will settle down. How old

  14. I own a 4year old lurcher she is whippet/greyhound/saluki/greyhound. I am her 3rd owner when she catches a rabbit she will bring to about 20yards away at best then drop eventually she will comeback empty handed. I am thinking of lamping her with my old 11old whippet that wont let her drop and may push het back to me. This is something I think a previous owner had brought in to her by having aanother dog. Any advice tried walking off treats all that
  15. cheers all some good advice coming.I just mentioned collar as had a set given to me by a mate that retired never used it at all and would only expect them to stop a dog from beating fields. Its so annoying as she is a the best I've had a catching.
  16. I own a 3year old Saluki/Greyhound x Whippet/Greyhound. Iv'e owned her since 2 years old, She can catch a rabbit as good as any I've seen. when she catches a rabbit she won't bring it right in, Instead when they dead stop kicking she drops and will return to me empty handed. I know this is probably due to training in pup days. I have tried walking off/ Standing still saying nothing/ Offering a treat. But none work any tips on getting her to improve to a full retrieve. I own a shock collar and have never used it on any of my dogs but don't think it would achieve anything in this situatio
