  1. Mole trapper, Foxshot in southampton sell the original australian design.Dont know any prices youll have to ring them. I make my own out of 14 guage 1" square weld mesh. You will need to get the mesh put through rollers to make it cylindrical. They are very easy to make once you have done this. I'll try and sort a picture out. regards masterhunter.

  3. Fenbo, I use Magnum bodygripper 116's. Get a small piece of tube. I use the white plastic split tube that you can buy in DIY shops for putting round your copper pipe where it comes through the floorboards to the radiator (saves you painting the pipes) About 5/8 diameter and 2" long. Drill a hole through it about 1/2 " (I use a cone cutter) pack this tube with peanut butter slide on to the trigger wires of the trap. Fit the trap into a wire cubby. (Imake my own out of 2" square weld mesh). The trap can be placed through the top of mine with the spring turned at right angles to the trap. Take t
  4. TBF, I use steel poles as I have found they do push into the ground much easier than 3/8 or1/2" fibreglass, they dont flex as pressure is exerted on the top of the pole, fibreglass do.I have used steel poles for the last 18 yrs, I have never had to resharpen one, or replace one because of rusting. The original finish on my poles is chrome, I have them powder coated green to camoflague them, you are correct about the powder coating wearing off, but this is only off the first few inchs of the pole, which is underground when your net is in use anyway. My basket principle is completely different
  5. TOMO, apology accepted. I'm having a stand at weston Park (gamekeepers Row ) come and see me and I'll show you my nets. regards Alan (masterhunter)
  6. Micky, alas no ,but I have a good friend who did. He is now 72, him and his father trapped rabbits on the plains, as proffessional trappers. They used to live in shepherds huts and had their own areas to trap. They used to work 390 gin traps and catch 300 rabbits a day. When he was a boy he said it was not unusual to pull 30-40 rabbit from one stop end hole. I introduced him to my fast set longnet system, when ferreting with him last year wants one for himself this season. I dont think I'll let him have one though cause he wont take me with him ! masterhunter
  7. TOMO, I think you should get glasses!! my stop nets are 20yds long, with a leaded bottom line and come complete with three steel poles and a bag AND a DVD. I've seen adverts from bb 25yd trad net £27.00. Doesn't really make mine expensive. Masterhunter
  8. R Oldroyd, A 75yd in 4 ply hemp would be alright for the first set, after this the net would be heavier due to picking up dew and moisture. When I was 19 I bought a 100yd hemp long net and Iv'e got forarms like "popeye". I found I needed forearms like "conan". I sold the net!!. Regards masterhunter

  10. molecatcher, yes, you are right, the top line does sag down a bit when a rabbit is in the net. But doesn't stop it from catching more rabbits at the same time. I designed these nets primarily for ferreters who just want to run a short net at right angles to a hedge or through an open hedge they are ferreting.. Rabbits chew holes in nets if left for any amount of time so of course people "on the ball" will despatch the rabbits in the net, dissentangle them and tighten the net back up ready for the next rabbit. regards masterhunter
  11. ferretingmoucher, If you want a dog for marking when you are ferretng and a soft mouthed dog for holding rabbiting in the nets, purse or long, get yourself a springer spaniel pup from working strain. If you want a dog that catch's missed rabbits get yourself a 3/4 whippet 1/4 bedligton, preferrably racing whippet or if still possible coursing strain. When your pups grown it want to be about 21" to the shoulder.

    4z or 6z?

bezza, I use 4z and 6z night and day and find they both catch rabbits well. I do think a 4z net works quicker on the lines than a 6z and it has a faster catch rate. When people phone me to buy nets I ask them whether they are going to use them for daytime use when ferreting or at night. If they say mainly ferreting I suggest they have a 6z as they are made of stronger material and won't break so easily if you snag them. So basically 4z for night and 6z for ferreting. This is what I find from working both types of nets, But each to there own regards masterhunter
  13. smokey, Throw your bottom grommets away, slide a rubber ring onto your pole, form your clove hitch on the leaded line catching one selvedge loop in the middle of your clove hitch knot. Slide onto pole. Then take a screwdriver or similar and push down through the rubber ring on the clove hitch knot side.Stretch the rubber ring, twist it and pop it over the point of your pole. Use diluted washing up liquid on a sponge (or silicon spray) and push rubber ring and clove hitch down the pole. If you send me a personel message with your address I'll send you some rubber rings and a dvd of how to rig
  14. How does yours differ from the other systems available? MikeTheDog, firstly I dont use fibreglass poles as I have found the poles that I use will push into hard ground where as fibreglass won't.My poles are also lighter than fibreglass. They are shod with a stainless steel point and they taper from 5/16 to 9/16 made from tensile steel.Powder coated green and capped with a rubber ferrule, which makes it easier to push into the ground. At the moment other systems that are available have pins that stick up or loops that stick up to hold the poles in position ion the basket frame. My bag and
  15. wllrennyferreter, If you only want a 25yd net, try one of my 20yd stop nets. These have 100% bag, 40yds of net on 20yds of line. Bottom line of the net is a leaded line. Fixed tubular steel pole on both ends leaded lne on the end of one pole slides to the middle of that pole. top and bottom line are pinched together, pointed end of that pole pierces through selvedge and lines arms lenght at a time, same as picking up a trad net.You set it the same as a trad net but you use a third loose pole to hold the net up in the middle.Ideal nets for ferreting and dogging in the daytime. Net comes complete
  16. Rabbithunter. I've used night vision for the past 25yrs. the 1st one I had was an ex-army head set monocular which was very clear, there was no magnification, it was for driving army vehicles. I could not see down the sights on my rifle with this thing stuck on my head, lasers weren't out then, but I found good use for it when long netting. Pick up Debens new catalogue edition 20 page 59. they are selling a new night vision system nonocular called iGen. It is 2.6 magnification and its supposed to be the dogs whatsits. They have sold out what they had already, trade price is £359.00 retail ?
  17. micky, when I am rigging my preset longnets I have 6" long pieces of tube with 4" plate washers welded to the top. The tubes are pointed at the bottom. The tubes are lined with a piece of nylon airline hose. These tubes are knocked into the ground 26' apart. Can you not do the same during daylight hours on the track ready for when you are going to set your net. Hope this helps,. alan
  18. Glad you think my net system is the dogs whatsits, hope you catch plenty of rabbits. Dare you mention that horrible word (BB) ????
  19. netrigger, I do two inner mesh sizes on my trammels 1 3/4" and 2" knot to knot. regards
  20. Martin, I use a pilkington kite 2nd gen+ fitted with a yucon infra red illuminator. I use this on a 22 rimfire. I can shoot rabbits out to 80yds the magnification of it is +4 you can get another lense maxi kite which brings it up to +6. I find this brings the sight higher off the barrel, which then changes your sight plane. These sights to buy new ,depending on what tubes you have in them, are about £3500-£4000. I bought mine second hand for £1500. This sight also fits onto my 222 and I can shoot foxes out to 150 yds. The reason why you need an infra red illuminator-if you are looking into
  21. molecatcher, horses for courses.Ihave used both trammel and standard longnets, but would say a standard longnet is a better all round net for night and daytime use. Trammel longnets drawbacks are they are heavier and more bulky than a standard, they pick up more debris and take longer to extract rabbits from.BUT if I am going to net a place at night where it is heaving with rabbits, I would rather use a trammel, as in between any section of the net between two poles it will hold more rabbits than a standard net. ALL nets have rabbits bounce off them. The reason for this in most cases is that th
  22. What makes it worse is his ferrets were fed bread & milk everyother day i assume the days off the crap he fed a nice bit of rabbit or you dont think its possible they got nowt to keep then skinny do you, no surely not QUOTE(Walsher @ Jul 5 2007, 03:40 PM) A half slice of bread and some milk every 2 days is what I feed it keeps them nice and thin and I Have caught 40 and 50 rabbits more than once with them When they kill they move on A HALF SLICE have you got jills or hobs did you breed them this year? if you did did any of the kits survive?? Ferrets are carnivo
  23. Why do you want hazel pegs on a fast set system?? I make and supply the fast set long net system, Bag and frame, net rigged with 100% bag, fixed to lightweight tapered tubular steel poles. How much you sell them for mate check out my website www.masterhunter.co.uk
  24. I suggest if you are going to rig your net as a fast set system you fit it with either fibreglass or lightweight tubular steel poles.placea rubber ring likea sheep castration/tail ring on the pole first, clove hitch line onto pole, slide screwdriver or similar under the ring on the pole on knot side of line, Twist ring and pop it over the top of the pole.Slide ring and line down to desired position using dilued washing up liquid. If you are going to use your net traditionally with end pins and wood poles I would suggest you cut some hazel poles 30" long and about 3/4" thick. The best time to
  25. I suggest you treat yourself to some night vision equipment if you are going to do a fair bit of netting at night. Before I run my nets I always check with night vision to see the rabbits are out. Reasons why rabbits may not be out, foxes hunting that area, people walking over that area, wind being in the wrong direction to set the net. When you look with night vision you will see some rabbits will only be sitting and feeding several yards from their burrows, others will be 50yds and others a lot more. When you start to run your nets, all the rabbits that are only several yards out will know y
