Im new to the terriers, I raised bulldogs for many years. I was wondering what is the best way to learn the different lines and pedigrees of these little dogs? Im not a big pedigree man but I would love to study all the different lines and famous dogs and their pedigrees. I am completely lost when someone begins to explain how a dog is bred or they mention a breeders name. Are there any pedigree databases or magazines/ books that will help me learn more of the breeds history? I have a nice young pup and I know he originated from Nuttall lines but I would like to go further back into his pedig

I took him out again yestetday and he hit every hole we come across. Bolted 2 armadillos. So he now knows what a hole is. He went ballistic when he knew there was something home.

I know everyone watching the videos are probably saying does this guy ever shut up! Lol but I like my dogs to know Im right there with them exspecially when they are pups. Once he gets the hang of it Ill keep my mouth shut and let him work.

No actually this is my first patty. I have hunted along with my buddies for the last 5 years and done lots of homework.

Well in our area there is a mix of game mostly mild tempered stuff like armadillos & opposums, they are ubundant in the ground. But we do run into racoons and the ocassional gray fox when hunting the right places. Once he is old enough and if he has the tools we will be doing some traveling to get to the groundhogs and badger.

Hey thanks D, Im super proud of him fingers crossed that he will keep getting better and better.

We have the same problem here in North Central TX. Our best luck is along creek beds we tend to find coon in bank hallows usually up under exposed tree roots. Wet or dry creek beds seem to hold lots of game, armadillos, opposums,& the occasional grey fox. I like the smaller drainage type creeks that are usually dry seem to always be loaded. But like Stunt said traveling is the best way for guys like us to get on chucks and badger.

Here are a few videos of my new pup, we were playing hide and seek. I had put a dispatched racoon in some shallow sets and other spots and cut him loose to see if he could find it. Also he has not figured out that there is game in the holes so the main reason I did it this way was to get him to go to ground. I think he now knows hole + ground = game + fun!

Ivermectin or Ivomec its what we use for heartworm prevention when given orally. But when injected under the skin it clears up mange. We buy it at any local feed store here in the states.

Met up with my buddy today and went and made a few digs. We took a 16 month old bitch and hit the woods, she did amazing at finding setts just constantly making sweeps back and forth. Once she found the setts she would enter and do a thorough check, and the few that had game well she stayed there until we got dug to her and pulled her off. I'm very excited about this little dog she is doing really well so far. Not much to brag about just a few armadillos they are not aggresive but perfect for a young dog to find and learn with. I am just glad she is finding setts and going to ground really wel

Seeing the name Nick Stevens reminded me of a question I have been wanting to ask. Does anyone know much about the few Nick Stevens dogs that are in the U.S.? I have seen pics and heard of a dog named Copper good looking dog and heard lots of good thing about him, but thats it, no pedigree dont know who owns the dog, if hes been bred. ??? I was told there are a few Stevens dogs over here but to find out about them is almost impossible, they are like ghosts. Im not exactly sure but I know Nick is over seas, are his dogs a big mystery for you guys that live in his part of the country? I know pri

Electrolytes for your dogs?
TEXICAN replied to Snifferboy's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
We have a product called pedialite it's for babies to help hydrate them, it can be found in the baby section with the baby milk formulas. I use it on the dogs in hot weather but it's always best to give it to them a couple of days before a hunt and small amounts along with plenty of water during a hunt. Someone mentioned creatines in an earlier post, I'm no doctor but I have experimented a lot and creatines are a no no for working dogs, your dog will overheat, thus causing shock & or stroke and even..... you know. Just keep it simple good dog food and plenty of water and the main thing is -
That should do it, just make sure to keep them on the anibiotics for atleast 7 days you want to run a complete cycle. If you stop early the bacteria can become immune to the antibiotic and come on even stronger. "It's the same as kicking a big guy when he's down your just making sure he stays there" Also if there is major swelling use azium aka dexamethazone it is an anti-inflamatory steroid it's very easy to use but only use it for about the first 3 days or even sooner if the swelling goes away. As far as puncture wounds I use 1 gallon of hot water 1 cup of bleach and 1/2 teaspoon of antibact

Just wanting some feedback on what caliber and model to start my 10 yr old son with. I am a big fan of the Remington 700 but I have been hearing a lot of good about the new Savage rifles. Also the other Remington models such as the model 7 & the 770. As far as caliber we will be doing deer and hogs I have heard and seen lots about the 243 both good & bad but the 7mm-08 is what Im leaning towards. My son is a little fella so I don't want to over rifle him he weighs about 50 pounds. Any ideas will greatly be appreciated. Thanks YFIS the TEXICAN.
