  1. I'm having a bit of a crisis with a piddly little domestic job locally, broke my cardinal rule of accepting payment before finishing the job because the owners were going back to London. Now I'm paying the price!, so I've used duffus, Fenn, trap line, talpex and this damned mole has rumbled me every time. I'm so annoyed at myself for taking the damned payment up front. Really don't want to admit defeat and go along with the shotty, it's just too much of an affront to my pride. So as a last ditch resort has anyone got a pair of putange that I can buy please? Can't get any off the bay at pres
  2. Haha, not yet! Trying to build the business as big as I can to get the best price possible when I come to sell it. Even then I'll hopefully still be trapping, but not in Devon and Cornwall anymore, and in a more relaxed manner, rather like another esteemed mole trapper on here! Not mentioning any names, ahem!
  3. Well, to put it into context, I bought the new van five weeks next Tuesday, just finished now and looking at the odometer I've done 7,200 miles in that time. I cover most of Cornwall six/seven days a week, admitted I also do about twelve nights a month on rabbit contracts too which adds up the miles. I'm not fussed if I do two jobs in a day that are seventy miles apart, it will still pay well. However, I never only have two jobs a day so there will always be stuff to do both ways as well. My diesel bill last tax year was just shy of ten grand, when the year just ended accounts are added up
  4. I can believe the beagle caught one, but the talpex, really??? I bought two to see what all the fuss was about, damned if I can catch a bloody mole in one! Tried all the tricks of setting them posted on here. Best use I can think of for them is sea fishing weights. Duffus all the way.
  5. This looks identical to the one I've been using the last five years or so. A mate bought it for me, I think from either axminster tools or machine Mart.
  6. Don't worry about it, it happens! I've two playing silly buggers with me at the moment, stress, aagh. Generally I put in a trap of every sort I've got around, ie, a Fenn, duffus, trap line, talpex etc, eventually they all make the mistake.
  7. Ah, st nazaire! Yes stopped there once, won't be going back, bit like Biarritz but less glitz. We will be heading down to Alsace first, never been this time of year, usually do that region in September. We'll almost definitely head across to Arle from there then up to Orleone/Rhe. With us nothing is ever fixed though, we always travel with the two dogs, so same as yourself look for more suitable places. Another place we often end up in is Lauzerte, we used to go there each year on the motor bikes back twenty years ago, it was fantastic, really good local hospitality, food and wine and it was
  8. You really do have a hard life, lolDidnt realise Oleron was more commercial, I'll do a bit of googling.
  9. Herself is trying valiantly to get me to go there before going to Rhe this time, but I'm undecided at the moment. Absolutely with regard to the diesel price, can't understand why it's cheaper though? Having not been to oleron, is the eating out good? Rhe is great, except for the overly loud plummy mouthed Brita gobbing off about their yachts and Biarritz.
  10. In order of appearance, Where would you like me to start "I am a complete francophile" Bet I feckin won't, lol, were over for Mel's birthday, our anniversary and my fiftieth! Seriously, we need a break as we were too busy for the September one. Today, I think I've broken my record for most lucrative moles only day, on all day tomorrow and Monday, then start back as usual on Tuesday, oh, and of course I start back on rabbit duty on the fourteenth! Its enough to drive a man to drink! Not stopping anywhere any length of time, other than Ile de Rhe for a week, there is a gamme vert the
  11. God, I hope not! Maybe just a little spat around July and then no more till November will suit me nicely. Whatever happens though, 20th of May the answephone goes on, and I'm over in France till at least 10th June.
  12. I know I'll miss it when it finishes, but Will be so pleased to put the madness of mole season behind me, it's now reaching its crescendo down here, loads of doubles now and the phones red hot. I predict "famous last words" it'll go quiet round here by mid may at latest way it's looking at the mo.
  13. Are any of them really if any genuine use? We use several to try and help us plan our moleing day, the last three days forecast have been pants, thankfully I took no notice, it's been stunning everyday, a bit chilly and breezy but dry. Not at all the forecasted rain.
  14. Just copy the one on woodga,s dvd, simply a bit of four be two and a handful of nails strategically placed, piece of pish to make, I've turned out well over a thousand on one of these.
  15. Yep I'm full of good intentions! Lol.Update, me and Dan my son have just started "sampling" the ginger beer! Oh boy! He inbibes old wife beater intravenous and he is blown away by it, it's awesome.
  16. Wait till year sixteen! Lol. Until three years ago I just knelt on the floor but at the end of a full day on it in cold weather I could literally struggle to depress the clutch to change gear, go to bed with freezing cold knees and wake up with them still cold in the morning. Mel picked me up one of the kneeling garden foam jobbies, wow, hooked onto the bucket and weighs nothing, but revolutionized my moleing, it's sheer luxury.
  17. Oh heck!! How much sugar have you used in total?Did you take readings before and after? This week I'm doing nettle beer, next a gallon of gorse and middle of next month a couple of dandelion and burdock. In the old days when I drank "ahem" a bit I made raspberry gin, vodka etc, blackberry whiskey etc, but now I'm a reformed character, I'm going to stay away from the strong stuff.
  18. Oh yes! Dytkos, Mel says thank you kindly sir! LolI've lost many of my mole customers to her who have openly admitted they much prefer looking at her arse than mine! Lol.
  19. I think you need to make room for her, maybe move that old crowsport on, I may have room at a push for it. Whistling emoticon.
  20. Really interesting post, cheers for putting up! I considered that one, but my lack of technical skills would have seen it moved on again. Any thoughts on why they are loud? Cheers, Jamie.
  21. Blimey, sounds like I made the right move three years back buying this place and committing to another six or seven year's, if I'd moved over like we were planning I would have been working harder as a semi retired moley in France than I am as a full time pesty over here! Lol. We always joke when traveling around over there that there can't be any mole men in France going by the numbers everywhere.
