  1. If they are small then they can't have been on him for long, as the longer they stay on they en-gorge with blood and swell bigger. I always find the problem is the eggs stay inside the wood of the hutch and so soon as you think you have removed them all from your ferret they are back again, so make sure you really scrub the hutch with something strong to get rid of them. I let someone look after my ferret for a couple of weeks and he got covered in ticks and I sprayed him in frontline spray but didn't remove all of the ones around his eyes and face as not safe to spray there face. so its e
  2. It cost me £9.50 yesterday got her done at a rescue centre vets as my normal vets were charging double that. They told me to keep an eye of her, and if she hasn't come out of season in the next week or so she will need another, as not all jabs work first time round.
  3. Sorry can't do a swap, but you're welcome to borrow my working sandy hob if you would like. I live in Bournemouth.
  4. Just passing this info along from? The National Ferret Welfare Society site - nfws The whole document released : 14th November 2011 CONFIRMED DISTEMPER VIRUS IN FERRETS For the last five to six weeks the National Ferret Welfare Society (NFWS) has been investigating a substantial number of ferret deaths which have been reported in various areas up and down the country, but mainly concentrated in the Midlands and Cheshire counties. As part of its investigations, the Society has paid for several detailed post mortems and some pcr (polymerase chain reaction) swab tests. Ho
  5. Yeah same! Mine have put on a load of weight. And changed colour completely my light blond sandy's now have dark brown legs and a stripe going down their backs. And my Poley did have a lots of silver hairs which have now turned white! Nice to see the colour changing though!
  6. When I got mine done the vet told me to keep her indoors for three nights after I did do it for two but she looked really sad by herself so I put her back in with the hob and kept an eye on her and cleaned the bedding everyday after the op and cleaned out the litter tray three times a day just to make sure she wouldn't get an infection. The vet also told me to make sure she didn't lick or bite the stitches but I don't know how they expected me to do that...they don't make cones for ferrets! You could do both at the same time but keep them separated after to stop them playing at least you can k
  7. I find my male is tamer than the girls. You could get a male and female and get the hob vasectomised so that he could bring the female out of season. I used to have a Hob who was the best worker but when he died I got a female and she is really good too but then my other female won't work so sometimes it's more to do with that particular ferret than male v female.
  8. f*****g hell if i stood on a ferret it would be flattened ,but then i am a fat c**t  hehe!!... yeah I went into a right panic thinking I would lose him from that but he is fine, and as silly as ever!
  9. Ferrets are pretty strong, I accidentally stood on my hob the other day with all my weight. He went all floppy and went to sleep straight away when I put him in a comfy box but once he recovered from the shock he was good as new! So she might be all right, could just be tiredness and shock?
  10. Mine are inside as there are so many firework displays nearby this year. Thought they would have tired themselves out by now playing continuously for the last three hours! But will have to go back out soon. Don't seem to mind too much though, they pause when they hear a big bang but not shaking or looking too scared.
  11. The Rescue had them tested and came positive for C.D. Most (over 90%) of the ferrets that got it at that rescue had been vaccinated against it.
  12. Cosy toes (for babies) - ebay. They are fur lined and only a couple of pounds off ebay.
  13. I didn't know either but did a search: "Canine (dog) distemper is an airborne virus that can be transmitted from direct or indirect contact with an infected animal. It can be transmitted from your clothing, shoes, or from your skin for at least 8 hours after exposure. In other words, your ferret can become infected just by inhaling the virus from your skin or clothing! Since the incubation period can be as long as 10 days, always isolate any new dogs or ferrets brought into your household for 14 days unless immunity to canine distemper (and other contagious illnesses) can be asc
  14. ''CANINE DISTEMPER CONFIRMED in a ferret from Yorkshire, post mortem results confirm it. This is a horrific disease dont take these warnings lightly. Symptoms are scabby rash under chin and thickening of bottom lip,a rash all over the body which is reddy brown blotchy yet faint most noticable on the abdomen where hair is thinner, also eyes closed up due to mucous membranes swelling which include anus and outer sheath of penis , a temp of 104 , the symptoms get worse here on in , the foot pads start to harden and the feet and whole body are covered with a reddy brown flakey skin, which drives the
  15. Maisie- Silver Jill Layla-Sandy Jill George- Sandy Hob and I used to have Oscar who was a Sandy hob.
  16. If I put the rabbit in whole mine often don't touch it. As soon as I rip a little fur off one of the legs so the meat is showing they dive right in!
  17. I've used it with my kits. Found it helped with learning to be gentle and not grab food out my hand. Mine love it!
  18. To clean out the hutch I use Soapy water with some Tea tree oil in which you can get cheaply at health food shops/eBay which is natural- antiseptic, germicidal, antifungal, antibacterial. And then this once in a while: http://www.lovepets.co.uk/item-820201/strikeback-hutch-and-kennel-protector-1ltr.htm?cat=hh-shp Tea tree is also good on wounds: http://www.teatreeoiluses.com/ dab on with a cotton bud OTom pullers are usually don't vary much in price can pick up from vets or eBay delivered to the house for the same price as I payed in the vets: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tick-Remover-OTom-Tick
  19. I don't really see why you would take the risk and leave them in season really. When there are several options- and the Jill jab is reasonably cheap. A Guy who runs a falconry near me has had several ferrets die this year yet he still left his girls in season, and hardly cleans them out so won't be surprised if he has none by the end of the year. I chose to get my neutered just makes it easier as I know I won't be breeding from them, and worth it in the long run prob same cost as Jill jabs over the years and stops me having to go to the vet just for that.
  20. I stopped as soon as he had his big teeth. Gets through meat and dry biscuits fine and he's only 11 weeks old.
  21. People were talking about it on the pet ferret forum getting all excited- think it probably will be more pet ferret than working. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-merits-of-ferrets/episode-guide/series-1/episode-1 http://www.ferretsforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=24193&page=2 But it's nice to see ferrets put in a good light, and educate people that don't have a clue and would kill an escape-y like someone did to one of mine.
  22. I though they are considered an adult when they come into their first season. So around next January onwards.
  23. My ferrets are on James Wellbeloved, what's the difference in quality between that and Vitalin or do you think they are about equal?
  24. Some people advertising kits as 'black ferrets' actually are dark Polecats or E.U ferrets had some 'black ferrets' for sale near me the guy just didn't really know what he was taking about.
  25. Thanks for all the reply's guys. Yeah really pleased with it! As I said before it wasn't me who made it. But the guy said it took him a while to do. The decking doesn't have anything to seel them though they are so close the holes between are tiny, can hardly see a gap, in the bed area the walls have extra panel's of ply on the inside of the decking to make sure they stay warm and dry in the winter. Wasn't too hard to move actually, All the draws are removable so took them all out to lighten the load then the 4ft and 6ft , can be separated which fit on the back of a trailer, the roof came off
