  2. yeah if i took him out for a day i wouldnt let him chase bolting rabbits and that just like marking holes hows your dogs training coming on mate? what commands you got him taught?
  3. crackin dog you got mate il be using him on the beating line so flushing and picking etc also picking rabbits shot with my 22. , what do you reckon about taking him ferreting? some people say getting them used to game early ruins them? but think hed be okay ferreting?
  4. i have the same problem with my ess (only with the walking to heel part) he will walk to heel fine when hes on the lead but when i let him of he just runs around like an idiot :L he recalls fine though but i was just wondering will letting him run around like that affect him walking to heel?

  6. nice pup also mate looks really canny. hes about the same age as mine, what was he like ferreting? hows his training coming on?

  10. came home from beating today and had a brace of hens, when i came though the door my 19 week old springer wasnt to keen he would come sniff then run under the table :L after a while he would stay and sniff them, is this a bad sign? or just cause hes a pup?
  11. im going to collage next september i have my pup who is 18 weeks old do i take him with me to collage and keep him in the kennels at collage or leave him at home with my family as i will be home at the weekends?
  12. whats the countryside management like mate? i applied to bishop burton last night like for the level 3 diploma in game and wildlife management
  13. cheers for the help, im thinking of going to bishop burton down in york? but i possibly could get an apprenticeship with a keeper up here (near rothbury) so if i went to hull i wouldnt be able too :/
  14. do they do a keeping course? or does the countryside and enviroment course cover keeping, and anyone going there next september?

  16. yeah ino what you mean, thanks ino he is no where near ready atm the most il do is like ill walk him and let him of the lead for abit blow the whistle and praise him when he comes back, then at night time do just 10mins of retriving? and every time he gets fed he has to sit and stay, so im hope he keeps coming on nicley and will be ready for next season
  17. heres what he can do; sit, stay, on hand siganls too. retrives, stays then retrives on my command, comes to the whistle on 2 peeps, stops on 1 peep, and lies down
  18. cheers mate my pup's training seems to be going well hes only 17 weeks old so i reckon hel be ready by next season

  20. i only go beating once a week if that so hel be used for flushing and abit of picking up then when im out shooting maybe picking up then like rabbits etc? when my mam feeds him she makes him sit and they know not to play tug of war with him. i need abit of retriving advice :/ hel retrive most of the times but sometimes i might thow it and he wont move an inch so i end up retriving it how do i make him go for it? or if he drops it on his way back how could i get him to go back and pick it up?
  21. This may seem a stupid question but can working dogs be family dogs aswell? as some people say springers cant?
