  1. a well conformed saluki will draw its rear legs right up where the knee will reach the front shoulder blades when in full flight thus the back will be arched just before the point of impact of the feet to the ground the back will become fully extended and immeadiatley on contact the legs again will be drawn forward allowing the suppleness of the spine to come into play
  2. I think ischemia is the desease that causes enlargement of the heart muscle this is usually if the amount of oxygen being supplied to the blood is not sufficient also week muscle structure of the heart can allow abnormal enlargement and usually results in heart failure.
  3. the heart of the saluki is naturally larger and sprint dogs like whippet and greyhound have twitch or ball muscle structure and saluki have elongated some lurchers can be born with either type of muscle structure
  4. Too bad kangaroos are slow as shit.slow as shit do you mean mentally and are you using kangaroo as a euphanism for Australian
  5. Cheetahs have very flexible spines, in slow motion they can be seen arching them to an incredible extent. They can have all their feet off the ground at the same time during a sprint, as well as the back feet coming forward of the front feet ,so they get tremendous extension of stride. It would be interesting to see close-up slow motion courses that focus just on the hare. As others have said, a hare's heart is out of all proportion to its anatomy,"as big as a baby's fist ," as Plummer described it. A famous greyhound was autopsied, if thats the word [ I cant remember if it was Mick The

  7. the size of the heart it pumps blood round faster reoxygenating it that is how thebuild up lactic acid in the muscles is slowed down that is part of the athletes training regime to build up the heart muscle to circulate the blood better
  8. The greyhound was originally used for field work then it was adapted over generations for the track. The old lines of irish coursing greyhounds were big powerful dogs and could do the job well but then the experimentors took over to introduce more pace as some one said the other day look at that coursing greyhound Master Mcgrath from the 1850,s must have had all the qualities of a field hound
  9. it is something todo with the length of the back and suppleness of the spine plus as with the hare the salukis heart is larger than other dogs its like a aero dynamic engineer has designed them to get maximum thrust with least air resistance so doesnt result in loss of power just one things hairy ears must cause drag or do they act as aero foils to get the front legs on the ground quicker? Baw might know
  10. its the back legs look at the kangaroo, and dragsters the back wheels are always bigger than the front now if you could breed a running dog with long back legs and small wheels on the front could revolutionise the coursing game
  11. I always have trouble getting the dog in the gun bag
  12. are you sure that whoosh is not the catty coming into action
  13. Birddog your comments on salukis hunting and the terrain shows youhave no knowledge of the breed, hunting is a man running from a polar bear sport is me running from the wife LOL.
  14. there are two types of rubber bands for the catty lets for argument sake say lurcher elastic and saluki elastic
  15. My opinion pure saluki pre ban were better because more selectively bred as soon as the ones wanting a quick pound got on the trail the quality of litters bred went down as is visible with the price of the salukis being shoved on the conveyors now dont know about other pure stuff like greys and deers etc
  16. i see dogs do the job then give my opinion.........then you go on to say you only seen lucas run on utube . I said a lot of the talked about x,s if you read it properly and I was later asked which I would go for in a match are you a proper scouser or just slow.
  17. I have seen him run quite a few times he has done 2/3 and 3s but the lads who are out with him regular say he does more than he misses.and a lot of the x lads turn down runs against him.
  18. I think that the saluki lines here in uk needs to be improved by breeding from only proven quality stock that has done the job on all kinds of game and terrain for a number of hard seasons, once a UK bred saluki line produces some top dogs and bitches then and only then look a various crosses if needed but the way the running game is now is the demand going to be there in 10 years time for a line bred running dog, some will run for life but unless youngsters are taught and encouraged the demise of the quality dog is visible on the horizen in the uk.
  19. This is another misconception that COO salukis only run on deserts they run on every kind of terrain you can imagine As i said this coming season will be a test for a number of dogs and imho a lot of eyes will be opened and a lot of the saluki plodder myths will be put to bed
  20. I have only heard about lucas and seen bits on video I have seen Sonny run sunny is about a year younger than Lucas I would go for Sonny . I know lucas is near 6 now and had a toe or two off think his best days are behind him.
