My lad owns the seasoned and experienced mutts,i have youngsters that are into their first season and learning their trade,if you want a day with the experienced crew ill pass my lads details on,if you want a day with the novices drop me a pm.

Everything i and my lad own is bred directly from rock working terriers. After a few near losses in rock my lad will no longer entertain working such locations,my youngsters will be encouraged to work rock.

Give him a shout.

As soon as you mention it is Beddy bred an awful lot of folk won,t take them serious and would rather go down a more recognised route.Anybody that is serious about fox control and a bit of thrashing about would be welcome to a line [id prefer a red Fell,Lakey bitch},my lad would be more than happy to show the dog at graft. There are an awful lot of chancers about so id have to strongly emphasise that only serious and committed souls would be made welcome.

Its a sad reflection on the breed when ive trawled the country for a decent stud and have had to inbreed for far longer than i would have liked,to now find my lad is looking at a proper Lakey to cover one of the finest Bedlingtons ive seen to ground, because its that or put her back to her father thats far to heavily related to her.Ill take a bitch off him and put it back to her father earlier than ive had liked, just to carry the line. The saddest thing is the Brother to that bitch,a dog that as seen more earth work than an awful lot of terriers,as only ever lined his sister.

The most honest moments our charges can ever give us is memories, the more remarkable and fonder the better. The facts are now that the majority of hunters never, ever will be in the game long enough to have but fleeting memories of a mutt that will ever make old bones.

Most of the finest lurchers ive seen in the field were not owned by me.I like lurchers, any type any quarry any reason to own and hunt one, even if its not my type or the way i hunt.I admire a useful lurcher and the owner that took the time and effort to make it that way.Ive spent decades wishing i owned other peoples lurchers that impressed me in the field. The best dogs ive ever owned were nearly as good as the lurchers i most admired and never owned.I did manage to get the odd pup out of them though.

I just give mine a biscuit.

Thats a useful looking crew, hedges are a twat to work and the mutts need to graft accordingly, very impressive mucker.

The facts are that you are taking a massive chance on a Deerhoundy by sourcing it from a breeding/commercial kennel. You will pay your dollar and take yer chance and the majority of times waste hard earnt brass.Ive seen a few bred from his kennel, ive heard tales of a few more bred from his kennel,at times from lads i know as honest in the game,Id not own a thing he breeds and thats from somebody that see,s more value in a Deerhoundy than most, the percentages don,t add up and its hard enough to source a decent Deerhoundy without throwing a dice and hoping to hit an high number.Decent Deerhoundy,

What’s the difference between average and very good dogs
morton replied to trigger2's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Rats are long tails not pheasants, fact,as i was born and bred in the very 60,s and the vulgarisms of my speech started many decades ago i find it difficult to adapt to what some see as standard now.Ill readily admit the folk i felt the most comfortable with,as hunting companions, are mostly in their graves now,the few i catch up with talk their talk and i listen with affection. As with anything we progress, alas the hunting lifestyles of most cannot compare with some of the folk i hunted with, thus i speak accordingly and make no excuse for the terminology i have an affinity to. -

Possibly something to do with the hunting company you keep over the years, before i kept company with the travelling community some of the old timers in Lancashire called their mutts Jukels and as with vulgarism,s of speech you spoke accordingly, years later it was a common enough used terminology amongst the many roadside dwellers i hunted with.Deerhoundy lurchers were always classed as staghounds,a term now deceased and collie lurchers were curs.Ferrets were stinkers, rats long tails and rabbits scuts. There are endless variations up and down the country in hunting terminology and the use of the -
The folk that could work them are more reclusive or retired from the game now, they gained a justified reputation as genuine allrounders, such a mutt is not needed now.

What’s the difference between average and very good dogs
morton replied to trigger2's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The average bred lurcher is more than enough dog for the majority of lurcher owners past and present, this type of jukel will never ever need to become anything other than what it is and what it was bred for.Ill warrant if ego,s and the tinternet never played a part in the reputation of the mutt and owner then the average lurcher would be a beast we could all live in contentment with.In the not to distant past some outstanding owners wanted a mutt a tad above average, not the one trick pony and thick as fack dross many see as the elite lurcher now, mutts that ran a tad smarter for a tad longer,mu -

I DON,T BELIEVE IT. -
the ability of the bull x as a alrounder
morton replied to milliken's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Thats my biggest gripe now, folk that think they can polish a turd and have little real idea of whats actually expected from an Allrounder. The vast, vast majority own what they perceive to be an allrounder, the vast, vast majority of which are suited to modern lurcher ownership. -
the ability of the bull x as a alrounder
morton replied to milliken's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
It was once a lurcher,it had to hunt,to find,it had to jump,to keep up,it had to be canny to earn its keep and we never gave a feck, ever. We worked the useless mongrels to their potential and bred them to do the same. Now they are bred with little purpose to serve folk with the same ambition,on the whole. -
Stunning N.

the ability of the bull x as a alrounder
morton replied to milliken's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The majority of lurchers once had the aptitude to do lurcher work and owners that could show them the path, now the lurchers capable are thin on the ground and the owners skinnier, thats a fact. -
Do you guys have bushing packs that hunt both rabbits and foxes ?
morton replied to toolebox's topic in Bushing Dogs
I hate gorse, the amount of times my bushers have ended up with foot infections with gorse spikes rotting in their feet. -

Anything in front of it,as long as it was edible or a pest.It had to find it before it chased it,it had to be able to chase it to catch it and it had to do it well. The olde adverts in the exchange and mart where often followed by HJKC,most on here won,t understand that, what i expected was HJFFWBRB. -
I like to believe that a few of my ilk are still about and the more i read on here the more i know we are a dying breed,it saddens me when one of my own pours his tormented soul out on here for HIS jukel and i can only offer little in comfort except i feel your grief mucker.

morton replied to milliken's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Its a sad reflection of lurchers and their ownership now when folk mention a Bullx as an allrounder. Its a reflection of the accepted standards now when a mutt will never have the capacity to do half of what an allrounder was expected to achieve, achieves what allround lurcher owner is willing to accept now.
