Dogs pulling of stuff they know they can’t catch. Good or bad?
morton replied to trigger2's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Lurchers are akin to a box of Celebrations, there is something in the mix that will suit all tastes. The finest lurchers ive ever seen in the field often had an habit of picking their runs. -

The best lurchers ive ever witnessed in the field had their own individuality, robotic lurchers are for owners that need battery power,i looked for a mutt with its own identity. -
Seriously if it was not for hype and the tinternet, the useless mongrels would never command the dollar.
-
You must cover an awful lot of turf if you are an expert on "coursing stock now available",the little i know is that many of the best coursing mutts running are seldom owned or bred by the elite few.I totally agree with you about the liars breeding for dollar out of untested shite.

Because the majority of the time the dog is more sensible, knowledgeable and better equipped to know its limitations.Lurchers are owned by fools, chancers and egotistic wankers,at times they are owned by folk that understand their charges and hunt accordingly. Some people attempt to cover for their own weakness with a lurcher and expect that mutt to challenge itself far more than they are capable of ever doing.A decent lurcher will put in a decent stint, catch a few, miss a few and know when its better to conserve energy.Id rather own a lurcher that ran for itself than one that ran for the owners e -
A couple of digging lads that go to the meeting have been out with Cain this season, the FMWTC meetings where often a place that some found advantageous in sourcing stock, days in the field, like minded souls etc. When you talk face to face it gives you a better understanding of a person, would they be suitable or suited to your individual hunting lifestyle and vice versa.A couple of pints an hours chat is a better way to gauge a fella, that works both ways, than useless drivel on a computer.Ill just have to bore the shite out of somebody else.

Im to thick to keep up,it was always easier to upset the Bull x owners. -
Dogs are fecking retards at times, especially the faster uns,the faster they run the dumber they often where and thats a fact. You could not take a greyhound on the fells and catch much,to fast to dumb and not enough wind.It would be pointless taking the smartest dog in the world, border collie, and expect much more in the bag and a combination of the 2 would have been not quite as useless, yet still useless. The art of the lurcher was to produce a mutt that had all the qualities to augment the individuals hunting lifestyle.Im as young as some and much older than the average on here,id not have vent

Don,t let him know his prime as gone, top man,top bullshitter, top grandad,id not have liked to upset him in his prime.

Its seldom i go,Nicky asked Cain to go over on monday and i said i may go with him,if the lad wants to chew the cud ill be there, plus i like listening to Rammo.

slow dogs turn the fastest.
-
Some dogs slow down to quickly.
-
You try slipping a dog on something it sees 200 yds away without the speed to get there before its out of sight.

I don,t dislike you as i don,t know you,i sometimes don,t agree with what you post and vice versa.I told you a while ago about the fact i don,t keep company now, only with my select few and thats still a fact.My lad carries the work load now, mostly, its now his chance to meet and greet and select his hunting companions, broaden his social hunting network etc.,ive been there done the slog and realised, especially with the political hunting lifestyle we tread the fields in,that im safer in my own company and in the company of folk i trust implicitly, others no matter how well vouched for,id even trus

My Beddy,s used to scream the place down, the addition of Fell muted some, ive owned a couple of shy uns around dogs and company, murderous around the hunt. They are not everyones cup of tea, what i will state is if you see a good un you will want to own one and within a few seasons won,t own anything else.Don,t set your stall to soon on the dog you want, the terrain and your hunting lifestyle may better suit you to a Beagle, spaniel, other terrier or small lurcher.Id source anything bar the average bred bedlington because most of them are shite.

Ill be at the FMWTC meet monday night.

"You only find that kind of shite when money is involved" the last litter my lad bred carried 7 pups i took 2 he gave 5 away,i seldom breed and always gave what i could to working homes, hard to find as few folk take them serious, thus i sold the odd uns as pets £150,3 or 4 pups sold in 12 years. You graft yous as you wish, they are yours to do with as you choose mucker,as ive stated several times the fact of having a couple of terriers enter together as yet to cause grief ever, others do the same but will never admit the fact,if that makes it disgraceful to some ill not loose much sleep or hunt di

The fell influence was needed because our dogs where so closely bred and the time for an outcross was of paramount importance,i tried for several years to find a decent working beddy stud, with no luck, geez i looked. The Bedlingtons where better in the field than the fell i owned, the red fell bitch was bred in the purple and id own her again. The fell infusion aided us as we then had another avenue to breed from and the Owen dog,the Spuggy bitch came from that. The Spuggy bitch was bred with the intention of putting her back to her father,a Beddy as pure as they come, still another mongrel though.T

The best advice i can give you, don,t source a KC Bedlington, look for a Beddy/Fell that is more Beddy than Fell. They bush to an high standard, are extremely versatile, hunt at speed and will work large expanse and tight locations with ease.Any decent bred working mongrel terrier will suit your purpose better than a KC Bedlington.Im possibly one of the Beddy,s biggest fans, especially as a grafting animal,id source another terrier type before a KC Bedlington, all of the time.

Find me any type of working terrier that does not have a dud hidden in its lineage, hidden on purpose by some. Its a fact that most breeding, of any terrier, will have an element of the unknown in its pedigree.A turd has an habit of floating to the surface in future generations.Any decent working terrier owner strives to breed from honest stock all of the time, many don,t give a toss whats in the mix as long as they sell well and a little poetic deviation from the truth sells an awful lot of terrier flesh. Many on here state the importance of doing your homework before wasting a couple of years on

No,i used to go by longest back, skin stretch, size of paws etc.The amount of times the scrawny fecker grew the biggest.
