    When Deerhounds where Deerhounds and not the soppy long legged,weak skulled,work shy,shivery,and shallow examples that define them now,ill warrant the herding types wandering the highlands played their part in the Deerhounds claim to fame,as the finest Deerhoundy lurchers plying their trade now often have the advantage of the herder in their blood.The nearest example to a proper Deerhound to me is Collie based.

    Ive been in the company of folk and their lurchers that travelled down from more clement climes to muller the easier dales conies,the lurchers bred in the near vicinity of the dales had an habit of catching far,far more than their southern cousins ,the reason for that was possibly the owners knew how to lamp better,they often lamped longer,the mutts knew how to catch more because they caught more and the pace they ran further south would have made them less competitive in the Dales.The Dales lurchers earnt their corn because feck all else could compete with them and thats a fact.There as been

    One of the finest lamping dogs i ever witnessed was a 19" Beddy/Whippet,that hungry,greedy,committed little speedster was a thing to behold,it excelled as a ferreting companion,it got stuck into a few terrier bolts,fair enough it lacked the strength or power to do little than hold but it tried,the rabbits it lamped would put many more recognised types to shame,fair enough it was bred and worked in the Dales and it gained favour from that,the flying blue rag was a machine on lamped bunnies.

    I hate to see a lurcher suffer because the owner failed to remove them,i was never to bothered with the terriers but ive had a few problems with the dew claws on the terriers,now they are off.

    The majority of Beddy/Whippets were bred from pets,especially the Beddy side,its only hybrid vigour that ever rescued their working intent.Thats why its so important to source pups lurcher to lurcher bred,still an awful lot of pets bred from but a few genuine litters swim against the tide.Homework,homework and then choose a pup?.

    The incubator is often the main reason eggs fail,it has to be cleansed to a very high standard before eggs ever enter it,it needs to be set right in the right environment,the eggs should be cleansed before they are set.folk should know how to deal with a non turning incubator,humidity,hatch dates etc.

    I start them on adult food when they are about 3 weeks of age,instead of giving them a rack of ribs i trim the flesh off and start them on that.

    If you are out and about and get caught then man up,take your day in court,pay a paltry fine and await the next un.Plod are often pretty useless at catching poachers and the ones they manage to apprehend are often the more useless uns,i only attended Skipton magistrates about 11 times,paid up and never winged when plod,the keeper,the farmer or a nosey fecking native caused me to stand in the dock.Now its "im the innocent victim" get me a box of tissues.

    Keepers are wastrels now,most of the time,the folk that have affinity with them piss in the same midden.When i see red kites shot at the side of a footpath,buzzards when the twitchers are watching them,rough legged uns,hares shot on sight so as the lurcher never twitches their scuff,rabbits slayed in night vision for the same reason and geese added to the stink pit,again out of season,then i have no affinity to the ones you give a blow job to.The majority of them are spinless estate employees,they once owned a spine.
