  1. very disappointed with what i was going for, a giant rag market!!! the stunt planes were good, i enjoyed the gun dogs, my mom and dad got haggling with some garden furniture and got 750 quid off. NO GUN STALLS!!!!!!! bought a nice bed for the new pup, and a whistle, the wife bought some paintings. Did i mention - NO GUN STALLS. But all in all i did enjoy myself once i got over the fact that a game and country fair had NO GUN STALLS. I bought some camo tape for my rifle. and spent a tenner on shooting bleeding air rifles which i do for the price of pellets at home.
  2. If you can go direct to BSA, i had a similar problem with my ultra so took it myself to the factory i spoke to the guy and told him that i wanted it full power and to never go over the 12ft/lbs limit, he did exactly that, My ultra is a cracking gun now. a little face to face works wonders.
  3. with regards to cheaper prices, haggling is the way forward on the stalls., i've always done well from that. we're hoping to pick up some good dog bedding and couple of accessories. Plus a new scope for moi. anyone got any recommendations on spotting scopes?
  4. biggest problem we have is there are dickheads out there that mis use them and give us a bad name!!!
  5. I got my first permission last week, 3000 acres. all off the back of a simple conversation. I play a lot of golf at a local club, my old man is competitions chairman, and it pains me to see all the b*****d maggies and tree rats ambling round like they own the place....and no matter what i do or say i am just not allowed on to shoot them.
  6. I would check the website before you go as I'm sure the house is closed during the show????? But could be wrong? I am sure they just close the woodland bit, but the house remains open (that used to be the case 15 years ago) I remember the fairs of old (15 to 20 years ago) and they were brilliant, everything was rather quite a bit cheaper than what it is now. But i still only go to one a year out of habit and this year is chatsworth, last year was belvoir and that wasn't too bad. I get Quinn (springer pup) on the 18th so that rules out Weston Park
  7. is it that bad? I am going tomorrow with my wife and my parents. We are going for the gundogs and gun stalls? My mom and dad are going for the arts, crafts and to visit the house itself. We both like watching the dog shows and the falconry. we'll still go, but now i am disappointed to hear that, but i will keep it to myself.
  8. Thanks for your reply Dell, I had a look at that thread with interest, this is my first pup at 28, have now got myself a permission with a farmer, so hopefully without sounding like too much of a muppet will be able to apply and start using my own shot gun, instead of the air rifles that I have (both beauties) Thanks for your advice Rick will be looking that up now. What kind of shooting do you do?
  9. here is a pic of Quinn at 5 weeks old. His grandparents are working gundogs from devon, I will get a copy of the certificate to find out exactly where from, but his parents are pets, I hope this won't be too much of a problem as I am sure he has the right genetic code to be trained well. what about yours Rick? Thank you for your info I have just looked the DVD's up, will be the most expensive dvd's I have bought to date, but very worth it I am sure.
  10. Thats logical, as my reason of thinking is you don't potty train a baby, you wait until the baby becomes a toddler. The subject of Springers is a strange, as people who I talk to that use them as gundogs say they don't come better than that, then you speak to a Lab owner and they say Springers are a no no, christ what did you get one of them for!!! They are mad. But I am guessing its each to their own. Thank you for your reply, what books would you recommend? Or even better what DVD's? Thanks in advance. Mark
  11. Hi Guys This is only my second post on here, but hopefully you will be kind enough to answer my question(s). In 3 weeks we pick up a springer pup (dog) What is the best way to go about training him as a gundog? and what age do we start? We are getting alot of mixed responses at the moment, so we are getting a little confused. Any help would be grand. Thanks in advance.
  12. Hi everyone. I am Mark, I am 28,I am Married I have my own joinery workshop in which I earn my crust and I live in Sutton Coldfield. I am interested in hunting and shooting. I would like to get more involved in your side of things, but don't know enough of the right people, so I am hoping this is the place to find out. I currently have 2 air rifles a BSA Ultra 2.2, and an Air Arms s400 1.77 both single shot My wife and I have a new addition to the family, a springer spaniel pup called Quinn, we pick him up when he is 8 weeks old in 3 weeks time. I am going to train him as a
