  1. It was lovely to see Charlie aka Lighthunter too. He's done a truly marvelous job on that S510 PCP from what he was telling me about the state it was in when he aquired it. Some people should never be allowed near a rifle that nice if they can't be bothered to look after it. Seriously wish I had the time to meet up with everyone on this upcoming Cambridge round. Sunday. Thanks for the kind encouragements to Helen here everyone! She's quite a lass! Simon.
  2. Elliott, Aaron thank you. I would love to get out with Si and Davy on a hunting foray on one of their permissions. My FAC HW80 is a killer of a rat and rabbit/everything rifle but so are all my other rifles. The Air Arms TX200HC I shoot with here is 13 years old and the Bushnell Scopechief 4-14x50mm scope you see on it is the same age. It's a 30/30 reticle, by the way; no mil-dots or ladder-scale "Christmas Tree" SBRC with this optic. Just a fine medium-to-thin crosshair and a bit of trajectory knowledge of my pellet. But it is clear as the day it was made and superbly accurate in zero. Wel
  3. D'ta think was a bit much?  That is a lovely pic you took of me and 'Ol Annie Oakley' Si. It's time to give poor old Major Konig/Ed Harris his gold watch! Adam. Buster, thanks for your kind comments fellas. Davy told me later that, when he cleaned his S410 and checked the scope, Helen had done all her shooting with it on only 4xmag and a unfocused reticle! I'm very proud of her..and wondering what she could achieve with everything zoomed up and focused! Thanks again lads. Simon
  4. She currently googling rifles and pellets like a veteran. Helen is one of those people like, when they get hold of something, they don't stop. She's seriously been smitten. I asked her had she had any former desire to take up shooting and she said 'No. Always was invisible...Well, she chose a hell of a partner to be quiet Mrs Pianoman! As for the negative comment? Well screw em! They weren't there to witness shit and I wasn't born in a world that shits itself playing conkers, climbing trees and riding a bike without a bloody suit of plastic armour !! Thank God! Who ever that was ca
  5. Cheers Daz and dtw! Dear Si, Davy. Thank you two dear lads for turning this into a fun day, we'll never forget. It was so good of you Si mate to drive down and set up and film it all. ! You both made this an amazing weekend of great shooting and fun for us. Helen has joined the forum as "britvicgirl.... I think that is a reference to my years of age! Between the help and advice of the three of us, she has seriously got the shooting bug biting deep! I don't honestly recall seeing someone soak up so much and put it to work as quickly as she did. Seriously apart, she is a genuine natural
  6. Just musing on Adam's comment here. There are a number of fallacies and mis-conceptions with FAC air rifle shooting/hunting as a whole. The extra power of FAC tuning should NEVER be taken as a means of ad-hoc extra range. It is a complete mistake to believe this is a means of increased- accurate shooting to longer, 50-metres-plus ranges with ease. It amazes me how many lads get their ticket to shoot at higher power yet do little to improve their personal accuracy standards to take advantage of possible extended ranges! The whole harmonics and trajectories of pellets changes and these have
  7. He's a decent, experienced shooter who uses a 30ft/lb PCP at sensible ranges. He caused a bad wound to the squirrel and missed a shot because, he basically worried a bit and naturally, rushed his shot to put the animal out of pain as fast as possible. That raised his pulse...that raised his shot...Ergo. MISS! He calmed himself down, re-aimed and a clean kill finished the job. So what has he done that niether I, nor anyone else here hasn't done before, if we are being honest here? Everybody who hunts with an air rifle WILL wound with a less than satisfactory shot at some point. Quarry mo
  8. PIANOMAN and possibly Miss PIANOMAN! JUNE & SEPTEMBER! Hang on... the words "MISS" and "PIANOMAN" do not mix......well, actually/really/honestly, a bit sometimes... LOL! Me and Helen then! Simon
  9. No offence taken from me dtw. I tip my hat to you with great respect for your good service and the losses of your mates. God bless em! Simon
  10. Well said villaman! I'd still go back, join up and go through whatever comes, if I was a young man again. I served with some of the best Regt. Gunners and Officers in the RAF and some of the finest lads from the Army and the Royal Marines. Some we lost to enemy action but, that's what happens when you 'go on one'. It was a privilidge to experience soldiering with such men. I'll never forget them as long as I'll live. Never! Pianoman.
  11. I agree with Marty/probuck. Who the hell against shooting live animals cares about where or how humanely you shot your quarry? That will mean nothing to the antis. The very notion of shooting a live animal alone, will make them want to kill you! Does anyone really believe that presenting video film of rats or anything else being shot and instantly killed in the most perfectly humane way possible will somehow appease and convince the anti shooting brigade into thinking we are safe, responsible shooters who care about the welfare of the animals we shoot? Never in a million years! Si
  12. A great welcome back you two lads as the duo you are; because the write ups you both gave of your shooting forays together were always one of the highlights of this forum. Great to see this Darryl and Gary. Best wishes for happy times to come. Simon
  13. HW80 .22 set into a classic full-bore style hunting rifle stock with a beautifully shallow-swept wrist and grip and tapering forestock of rich dark Turkish walnut. Rosewood caps and white spacers. Tartan chequering to grip and forend. That'll do for me! Pianoman
  14. There's the frequently quoted phone number. 0781 503 1934 Anyone care to ring it and "talk" to this maggot ?
  15. That would be the sensible thing to do. In hindsight it is very soon after Christmas/New Year, there is clearly other things going on for Davy and Chas, the weather is possibly going to put a lot off from attending...It's just not a good time. May would be nicer. Let's make it a spring affair!
  16. Hi Roger. I've used my FAC .22 HW80 on rats for all the years I've had it. The .22 round really thwacks them dead on impact, regardless of whether it's a head, upper body, chest shot. They are instantly switched off; but in virtually all cases the carcasses jump and bounce like India rubber! Having read a great many anti hunting comments on Youtube vids. I am not so much concerned about a dead rat's nervous system causing it to bounce about, as I am with the vilest remarks and threats of murder and torture these maniacs make in the name of animal welfare. This is an age of unpreced
  17. Given the size of the ammo, more like Cyril Smith.... oh dear... Now that was quality!!
  18. I've heard these felt cleaning pellets are not a wise idea to use on a spring rifle Andy, as I note you also shoot with an HW77 .22. They don't produce enough back-pressure to cushion the forward shock impact of the piston and spring like a lead pellet creates, apparently. Simon
  19. Simmons were always a brilliant performing make of scope for an HW80 or any spring air rifle. These were around in the late 1990s to the early 2000s. No reason why this should let you down! If only Hawke and co. made scopes that last as long on a spring rifle Pianoman
  20. I can play especially well with an Airmax dear Mole! The one-hole concerto in Feck Me! Can you?
  21. That's really slick Archie by the way!
