The Mighty HW MK1 .22 has arrived.
pianoman replied to mark williams's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Beautiful Mark. Really well done on buying her! You have a unique bargain here. The first HW80s became legendary and set the mark of the rifle to come. I remember when it came out and everyone was talking about it, saying how powerful it was. But the power was in the rifle's incredible accuracy. I have yet to see a vintage one nowadays in untouched mint condition as yours. If you email Weihrauch with the serial number on the barrel they will give you the year they made the rifle if you wish to know for sure. I absolutely love the rifle. I've owned two x .22 80s and they just p -
Hello WEBLEY AXSOR .22 Goodbye DAYSTATE HUNTSMAN.
pianoman replied to pianoman's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Thank you so much for your responses lads. I got the Webley Axsor home this morning, scoped her up, filled up and set to work ammo testing at 30 metres. .22 Air Arms Fields 5.52mm proved the popular choice. Half inch groupsat 30 metres are no sweat here. And the power is the glass full! Once the rifle was filled to 200 bar and warmed up and leadenned with the AA Fields the target board was returning very tight groups and solid penetration. Some subtle differences between the two Webleys are.... This Axsor stock is a beautifully figured walnut. It may look outwardly identica -
FAC conversion dilemma
pianoman replied to Eradic8r's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Ace shooting Mitch. But FAC air comes in differing levels of power output to powder burning .22 LR ammo. But if you have the skills and the rifle and pellet you shoot with are up to the task, knock yourself out. Each to his capabilities mate. Never shot with FAC .25. Sounds devastating on rabbits at decent ranges. Best regards Simon. -
Hello WEBLEY AXSOR .22 Goodbye DAYSTATE HUNTSMAN.
pianoman replied to pianoman's topic in General Airgun Discussion
It is Phil. It will be my third rifle from his shop. These seem to have something of a cult following among shooters and collectors. All the best. Simon. -
With Helen's Daystate Huntsman Classic. 177 PCP sitting in the cabinet for years now with next to no use at all and NO ONE at all interested in buying it, I have done a deal to swap it directly for a .22 WEBLEY AXSOR. No cash trade in but a straight swap for another gun with a local dealer. It's a mint condition Webley Axsor .22 I'm really enjoying shooting the WEBLEY FX2000 .22 I have had for about 2 years and this other Axsor is in absolute mint-perfect condition walnut. Not a mark or chip on it anywhere.. It feels a tad lighter than the FX2000 and curiously, has no pressure guage in t

The mighty MK1 HW 80 .22
pianoman replied to mark williams's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Great to read you have found a mint original Mk.1 HW80 Mark. These are brilliant in .22 flavour. So what the. 177 .20 and .25 versions are like I have no idea but will probably be just as outstanding. Stock forend is a bit boxy with this version but it's a comfortable platform for building accuracy. If there is one downside to this rifle, they can be a bit fussy how correctly well you hold them, so your techniques for shooting a spring rifle have to well polished up to get the best out of them. But you have that level of refined technique already. For my money it is always Rifle No. -
Hi Jimmy . Just to offer our prayers and best wishes for your daughter's recovery. And for yourself and Nicola. There are loads of air rifles to shoot with anytime but, you only have your girl. How old is she? Mate whenever you want a change of scene you are welcome to spend a few days with Helen and me. God bless and fondest ljve to you both. Simon and Helen xxx

JSB Heavy in .177 is perhaps the best compromise between .177 and .20 calibre pellets. My Daystate Regal .177 loves em in 4.51mm headsize. They hit hard and are blistering accurate and consistent pellets. Result is always a humanely swift kill. Never had a problem with over penetration with these, as I have seen with lighter weight .177 pellets. All the best. Simon.

Thanks very much Daniel. Fingers crossed I'm not going to repeat the damn episode. Take care of your health mate. Diabetes is a hell of a thing to get under control. Best regards Simon.
-
Thanks so much Tim. Very kind of you mate. It's been a stressful time. All the very best to you too. Simon.
-
Thank you so much Mark. That rifle and scope was one of the very best set up combinations I have ever shot with. But like I said at the time, my Prosport and the HW80 and HW77 .22s are getting the attention they deserve on my permissions and here was a beautiful HW97 getting unused. I am truly delighted you have it now because you are the sort of chap that deserves a fine rifle and she deserves you! You are getting really fantastic sport out of her and that's what she was built for. That Hawke Endurance scope is absolutely perfect for her. Alas, my eye is not as once it was

Thanks Jimmy mate. It's bloody serious and I was really worried about my foot and sepsis infecting it. Helen sends her love and we'll get together again when we can. That would be lovely. Best regards. Simon and Helen.

Daystate Huntsman mk2
pianoman replied to Rabbiter12...2's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Your rifle will probably be at its best at around 190 bar pressure Rabbiter. So as Phil says, don't run it down or, hand pumping it back up is going to be a chore. When you fill your gun cylinder to it's best pressure, it will remain at that pressure until you start shooting. You will find l, with a diver's bottle of air, the guage will immediately return to the last pressure setting. Then , as you start shooting, it will start to run lower and lower. You should be able to get about or more full power and consistent shots before the drop in pressure shows with a drop in your pellets hitt -
Hi Phil. I buy my JSB Heavy from an Ebay store called Sundon Model Shop. Very good prices and they stock a massive selection of pellets and unusual head sizes. If Biz Mags are perfect in your rifle mate, you stick with em. Anything that builds confidence in yourself as well as your kit is not to be discounted. Best regards Phil. Simon

FAC conversion dilemma
pianoman replied to Eradic8r's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
I still say as ever before. Just as a cautionary note. FAC air is at its best when used at normal 25 to 50 metre air rifle hunting ranges. Use the advantage of faster pellet speed to humanely kill your rabbit or squirrel faster than they can react and bolt out of the way. 50 metres range is still a hell of a way off to accurately whack a rabbit's head through its brain. I have a beautiful Wiehrauch HW80 .22 on my licence that gets the job done out to 60 yards and further without having to do too much holdover estimating. I have been shooting with it for 22 years regularly so I know -
Hi Mark. I use 4.51mm JSB Heavies in my .177 Daystate/Airtech regulated Regal. These are superb hunting-weight pellets and amazingly accurate and consistent in this rifle. The knock-down power retained in the JSB pellet is great and a humane pest killer. All I want is a humane, instant-killing shot to the head of a rabbit, rat squirrel, whatever vermin. After experiencing some awful moments where rabbits have escaped, screaming in agony into undergrowth to eventually die hidden away and unfound, despite a positive hit into the head or heart and lungs from lightweight .177 p

Hiya my dear friend. It was a Diabetic ulcer flare-up in my right foot Jimmy. It became infected and for a while, it was possible I could lose my foot. However thank Christ, the doc cleared it up with pennicillin and anti biotics. It's fine now but, I have had to give up beer and all risk of anything sugary. Lost a ton of weight though! God bless you and love to you and Nicola Simon

Daniel hi. My apologies for the delay in catching up as I've been out of circulation with a health issue these last months. And thank you to Phil, Bigmac and Mark and all the lads who say such kind things about my Springer shooting. It's a skill that has taken almost my lifetime to master to a high standard. But the skills are not beyond you capabilities if you are prepared to work hard with practice of a few sound principles that are tried and tested and proven to work. Well I had a Webley Excocet .22 a fair number of years ago. It was an accurate little rifle with Eley Wasps and I had

Is your rifle up to the task? Great pellets are not going to do much with a naff trigger, naff barrel, inconsistent power output and poor build standards. But if yours is a quality air rifle, then the right pellet and the work from you will produce the results you are after.
-
Bloody hell... Can you fix this Jimmy? By the way, how did you get on with your FAC application. Have you got it yet? Love to you and Nicola. Best regards old friend. Simon

l bought a Daystate Huntsman Classic for my partner Helen. It is still, such a nice rifle. Nothing wrong at all with it. We love it. So...I bought the Daystate Huntsman Regal .177 on the strength of it and that rifle, supposedly the next development of the Huntsman, was the bloody opposite!! Total dissatisfaction personified! Poor internals, low powered and a barrel jacket that is loose and cheaply fitted. Daystate have earned a terrible reputation thanks to this underpowered, undermade, overpriced turkey which meant, getting a reasonable return on resale or trade-in was impossible.

Thanks for this JonJon ...and your kind words Phil. That TX200HC you had was one of the best spring air rifles I have ever tried and shot with. The link will not allow me to access the AirgunBBS page article/thread. But, thanks to a lot of help and advice from Jimmy, who very kindly acquired a Beech Pro Sport stock and fashioned it into a left hand user friendly one and gave to me, I took the plunge and bought a brand new, right handed, walnut stock Pro Sport for the price then, of £555 and, while using the stock Jimmy made for me to get the rifle run in and shooting well, I set to

Well chaps my HW80 .22 will turn 21 in September this year. And inspite of the lousy weather over Lincolnshire this evening, I went out to a farm permission for a long walk with the old girl and see what was about. Soon as I left my car and shouldered my HW80 it was out into fields full of damp grasses and rapidly soggy shooting trousers but, ain't that part of the charm? The smells of wild herb and damp meadow grass were wonderful as I approached a favourite area of woodland. Straight out of the undergrowth bolted a young rabbit not yet full grown; but old enough! He stopped dead

Now rabbits are where this rifle really comes into it's own Mark. I have had some fantastic rabbit shooting with it. Out to some terrific ranges too. You will have no problem knocking them down out to 70 yards with that HW97K. Good to see the old girl getting properly used. I do miss her but, well I'm not exactly stuck for a great rifle to get out and about my perms with. All the best with her mate. Simon

How Good Is An 18 Year Old Weihrauch Hw80 .22???
pianoman replied to pianoman's topic in Airgun Hunting
Hi Salman. I would go with a Hawke Sidewinder 4-12X50 or similar spec Sidewinder. Really good scopes with 30mm bodytubes. I can't fault the one l have on my AirArms Prosport and HW80 .22 rifles. All the best. Simon
