WOW! I'm having one of those! I heard this Mauser K98 copy is being built on the Diana 46 underlever. That was a great rifle, so this K98 copy will not be a poor do for hunting. Any ideas on price anyone? And I wouldn't trade my 18 year old HW80 .22 for anything made today either!

With this sort of money in mind, I'd strongly recommend you look at Nikon for the scope. Not cheap but you get a very high quality optic for the money. I have a Nikon Fieldmaster 6-18x40 side focus scope for my FAC HW80 .22 spring rifle. Incredible clarity and accuracy in zero. All the best. Pianoman

The 97's built-in silencer..... No. Sorry. It's not a moderator or silencer on the muzzle end of the 97. It's more of a muzzle-weight to aid balance forward and still latch the underlever up. You basically have a hefty HW77 action with a much shortened barrel with a lot of weight tipping backwards, towards the butt-end as a result and as such, the rifle needs a counterweight. Weihrauch say it contains no blast-deadening material as silencers do. Thus, it makes not a bit of difference towards muffling the crack of air at the muzzle on firing. Generally, all silencers/moderators are a waste

I have/had both and loved them both. Either will produce all the amazing accuracy you need for hunting, FT, HFT whatever you need a rifle for. I currently have an HW97K .177 which is really all the air rifle I need for hunting. It's an absolutely beautiful rifle and as accurate as it absolutely gets. I've recently sold my Air Arms TX200HC .177 after many years of incredible shooting with that rifle, but, my HW97K is a comfortably better handling rifle in my hands and as such, the TX200HC was getting left behind. It was a crime to let a brilliant rifle gather dust in the cabinet and now ha

Just Got A Sporter Stock For My 97 Is Like A New Gun.
pianoman replied to dayglowfrog's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I had bought the KT Thumbhole stock version of my HW97. I liked the flow of the forend in my leading hand, but the thumbhole pistol grip needs a bit more wood AND,,, a thumb-shelf for those of us who prefer to shoot with the thumb of the controlling hand up the grip as opposed to over the spine of it. Swapped my KT stock, straight for Skot Ruthless Teal's HW Factory Bavarian sporter stock. Lovely! Feels just right, even though it is a right handed stock. Absolutely no problem shooting it left hand. And I love that classic touch of tartan diamond cut chequering on the grip and forestock. M -
There was none of this threat of this and that and blocks to trade and God knows what from Brussels in 1939! We saved that lot from Hitler's NAZIS when every one of them was shitting themselves and surrendering like cowards. Now they want to threaten us and think they can scare us into doing what they want us to do? OUT!

Reshaping A Pro Sport To A Lefty
pianoman replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Just sent you a PM Jimmy. But, publically here, I can't thank you enough, again for what you have done for me here. I'm doing sums to see what I can do about buying a Prosport to fit it. I never ever, thought I would find myself having to be able to say that! I'm going to put Helen's Daystate Huntsman Classic .177 rifle and Bushnell Banner 6-24x40 target scope plus hardshell, Daystate case up for sale to fund a Prosport. Mint condition, hardly used at all! (Women never use what they want and finally get!) Not even had a tinful of pellets through it yet. It'll be a cracking rifle for someo -
Well, Practice Makes Perfect' as the old saying goes. I've been shooting for over 50 of my 58 years and I still spend a lot of time with pellet trajectory practice. I can hit a lethally accurate group outside my zero range because I keep on top of what my pellet's trajectory is averaging from the barrels of any one of my four rifles. In both .22 and .177 calibres. If someone thinks that is unnecessary, well, fine. They are not doing my shooting for me. But, I have the peace of mind that, it is a most unusual occurance that my shots results in a wounded animal getting away to die a lingerin

So You Think You,s Can Shoot A Springer
pianoman replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I grew up learning to shoot accurately on open-sighted Webley air rifles, because a scope was an unaffordable dream when I was a keen young lad like Little Hunter. And the ones that eventually became available were still not that great. So open sight shooting was how I got into the sport. I can still refit the open sight unit on my HW77 .22 and can still hit reasonable, tight groups at 25 metres. But, nowadays, my eyesight is not quite as sharp as what it once was and I keep more to scopes now. I doubt I would take a risk on shooting a live animal like a rabbit with an open-sighted rifle -
Pretty much every day I can when work allows me time to enjoy a practice session on my 35-metre garden range. I'm lucky to be able to set a couple of hours aside each day for shooting practice sessions. I shoot spring rifles a way lot more than my PCP and they demand dedicated practice. I'll shoot about one or two tinfuls of ammo through one of my four rifles a month, especially when the rabbits and spring/summer shooting arrives. My HW80 .22 has never shot better since BigMac97KT restored the stock so, that rifle is getting the attention at the moment. Sadly, my beloved Simmons Whit

Never doubted this would be the outcome for a moment. .......... But it did look bloody horrible to contemplate how you were going to pull this repair off, Jimmy -
Spot-on shooting Jamie. For all those who think a PCP is the most accurate rifle to buy.....

New Spring Problems..........
pianoman replied to Blackbriar's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Better this than a wrecked rifle internals and scope Blackbriar. No reason I know of why your Stoeger shouldn't perform well at high 10+ to 11+ ft/lbs with a standard factory spring. And you keep your scope alive and healthy! If the rifle isn't built for FAC performance, it will be a dog to shoot with any meaningful accuracy, bark like hell, have an unmanageable recoil cycle and do more damage than good. To say nothing of how fed up and hacked off you'll become with it. This is why I don't have my HW77 .22 on my ticket at FAC power. It wasn't designed for it and 77s start to perform -
New Spring Problems..........
pianoman replied to Blackbriar's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
YES! I know that you're one of the fellas here who really knows his stuff, PM. Do you think I might be better off putting a factory spring back in, before any damage is done ? I should Blackbriar. Yes. Titans are powerful and from what I can see from Google images of your rifle, the Stoeger's cylinder is not big enough to take in the amout of whack these springs can push out. If yours is doing what you say, it is going to exert a lot of recoil shock on your scope. My HW80 will wreck a scope that cannot stand the recoil at this level of whack. -
New Spring Problems..........
pianoman replied to Blackbriar's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Titan's are good for Spring rifle FAC conversion like my HW80. It has a Titan No.4( I think) spring. But not in a Stoeger. It will possibly smash your scope too. It is unlikely you'll see any meaningful reduction in BOING with this Titan spring, Blackbriar. -

pianoman replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Jesus! That poor thing still has a trigger attatched!!!. I'm guessing this was a case of letting the barrel slip from the fellow's grasp and coming back up under spring tension. It's a usual symptom, with a split through the grip. I bet the barrel is going well up Northwards too Good God Jimmy, this will indeed put you to task mate But I'd bet money, you'd repair her fine. -

We'll talk about finiswhing the Prosprt stock when you come down Jimmy. It looks lovely in these photos as it is! Thank you so much dear friend. I'm having a thought or two about how I'm to go aquiring the Prosport that will go into it right now! All the best, for now. Simon -
Started The Hw77 Stock
pianoman replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Do you still have the HW97KT Thumbhole stock on you 97 we traded for Skot? The 97K Bavarian sporter we swapped it for, is a beauty to me. And it's a right hooker stock too. All the best mate. Simon -

That'll be fine mate, you just take your time! -
Good shot Mark! I never flinch from a shot at a Magpie. As a youngster I once saw two Magpies rip the baby Blackbirds apart in a nest, right in front of their mother bird, going out of her mind with grief. I have never wasted a moment or a shot when out hunting them ever since. Hateful b*****d things. Good work mate!

Started The Hw77 Stock
pianoman replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Jimmy I'm speechless and in total bloody awe of what you done here for me. I'll never be able to fully express all my appreciation and the gratitude I feel for the kindness and admiration of regards I hold you in. Both an absolutely stunning HW77 Mk.I stock and a truly beautiful Prosport stock conversion to left hand. Well, I can only compliment the HW77 stock with the action of my beautiful HW77 .22 rifle. And I have a lovely Simmons Pro Air 6 -18x 40mm to give it a fully retro, classical sporting look. And it will still knock any PCP into touch for sheer accuracy and smoothness.
